Sara Bareilles premieres new song "Hands Off My Body" at The Hollywood Bowl on August 17, 2024
I recorded this cover of Breathe by Taylor Swift featuring Colbie Caillat way back in 2010 and it has never seen the light of day. I came across the file going through some old things and couldn’t believe how much time had passed. It really made me contemplate how much the song meant to me then and still means to me now. In light of the fact that Taylor is releasing the re-recording of her iconic Fearless album, I thought what better way to celebrate than to finally let this file go rather than let it collect dust forever. I’m not a singer but I was proud of what I did back then when I was a terribly shy and insecure young woman. Fearless is my favorite Taylor album as it came out at a time when I needed that set of songs most and I know her re-recording will make me feel all the feels, reminding me why I love Taylor in the first place.

Mulan | 2020
About Mulan Live action,
Like can people please understand that at its core, Mulan is about war??? Like the ONLY reaction at all that I see from the already tiny amount of coverage Mulan is getting is that people are pissed that there aren’t gonna be any songs. And then people are mad that Mushu and Shang aren’t gonna be returning. People are mad that it’s gonna be nothing like the original version which I’m just like ?????????
Like first of all I have half the internet saying crap like “Oh these Disney Live action remakes are so pointless. They’re just shot for shot. What is the point besides Disney raking in money. Just watch the original. I hate these unnecessary remakes”
And then I apparently have this other half of the internet who will absolutely shit on this live action Mulan movie that we literally have next to no information on just because it won’t be the original animated version. Like I’m actually so pissed about this just because it’s so stupid. Like literally what are all of you doing?????????
Mulan is not your typical ‘boy gets girl, girl gets boy, everyone gets to live in a happy gigantic romantic castle the end’ Disney film. It’s literally about war. It’s about how a girl risks her own life to protect her father and serve in his place. This is not some kind of thing you can easily translate into a live action setting, where as you have a lot of freedom in animation.
When you bring Mulan into a live action setting, things obviously get real. There’s gonna be an amount of realism to it and when it’s dealing with things like war, I think people are gonna wanna take it seriously. Having random musical numbers during war sequences is probably gonna be super awkward no matter how you implement them.
AND THEN CAN WE ALSO TALK ABOUT HOW MULAN’S LIVE ACTION CAST IS MOSTLY MADE UP OF CHINESE ACTORS WHO ARE FROM CHINA AND ORIGINALLY SPEAK ENGLISH AS A 2ND LANGUAGE. For them, it’s probably enough of a challenge to be acting in English. Why would you expect them to sing and like have it sound okay???? I mean Mulan should honestly already be in Chinese. They’re already doing us western idiots a massive favor by having the entire movie be in English.
I’m just SO frustrated by what I’ve been seeing about live action Mulan so far. Like I’m just so excited because you barely ever get to see a largely Asian cast with an Asian woman lead in western media. This movie isn’t just another live action Disney remake. Like this is legitimately important to me and other Asians, but people seem to just wanna bitch about the lack of songs and how it’s not gonna be an exact remake of the original.
Can people just PLEASE logically think your way around this film and understand why it’s not gonna be like the original and how that can actually be a good thing????
I don’t usually reblog rant/long text posts on here but THIS. All of this. People need to take 100 steps back and not prematurely judge something they know nothing about.
