For those wondering about the fox. Grace has a subtle motif with this animal throughout the movie, but especially this shot where they pack this toy fox with his belongings on the Hail Mary. something i haven't seen anyone talk about with project hail mary was one of my main takeaways from the film -- it's just how important the arts are to the sciences. the first way that grace and rocky are able to communicate is via art -- the tiny human sculpture and the two rings of eight to symbolize O2. the interweaving of art and science in the creation of project hail mary, from the beautiful cinematography to the costume design to the puppetry and soundtrack, is the thing that made the movie so dang impactful to us. as someone working in the sciences, thank you to all the artists who help us thrive
