Is anyone talking about how, after expressing his frustration to the group that he's never slept in a bed on their trips together, Stu gives a heartbreaking shuddering breath that sounds like he's suppressing a sob??

being the sigma grindset girlboss character with the speech cadence of a haunted doll is one of the craziest character choices of all time and i am obsessed with it
Jon Matteson’s portrayal of Stu is such good acting, oh my god. His main scene and speech really stuck with me. He's the character I feel the most sorry for out of the whole friend group.
The fact that Stu is such a happy-go-lucky, easy-going guy with lame humor is so endearing, and it makes it extra tragic when the people who are supposed to be his friends push him past his limits. (I thought it was kind of like the break the cutie trope, but then I realized that for Stu it's the variant, break the comedian, trope.) It's so freaking sad when a fun, optimistic character is brought to their breaking point.
Stu's reactions as Mykel tells him about the group chat about him are heartbreaking:
Stu: “...Okay, crickets.”
Mykel: “Hey, you guessed the name.” Stu still has a clueless smile on his face as he turns to Mykel. Then, after it’s explained to him, there's Stu’s gradual realization:
Stu turns to look around and grins, still trying to maintain a light atmosphere and be in on the joke: “Wow, roasted.”
Everyone’s quiet; he looks around at them more. In denial, he swallows roughly and tries to smile. “It’s actually really funny you guys do this.”
As he looks around more and is met with more silence, his smile fades and he sits down. “None of you find me funny?” More silence, and the look on his face as it sinks in is just so—?!
I felt betrayed and outraged on his behalf! Like there could've been a much better way his friends could have gently told him that his jokes are cringe, if at all, instead of revealing that they make fun of him behind his back.
The transition from happy obliviousness to growing hurt and then the outburst is so well done and heartbreaking. 😭 There’s no way that the friend group is going to keep together after this. Too many secrets and confessions were revealed for them to come back from.
The fact that Stu even drove up to the AirBNB by himself is so sad! He deserves so much better. 🥺
this is from "research as a leisure activity" by celine nguyen, publs. on stubstack in 2024. it's a very good read
I met someone when I was pretty young who had received a generous inheritance -- not enough to live a life of luxury, but enough to live on comfortably without working. He had chosen to simply keep going to school his whole life. He did get degrees, but he didn't use them for anything other than pleasure -- he had a Ph.D but also two Master's degrees, three BAs, and was currently serving an apprenticeship in blacksmithing while considering trying out some trade schools next. I thought, if I had the money I'd do that too, and then thought about how I still could learn all the time, it would just have to be a hobby instead of the career he'd made of it. It definitely changed the way I saw both education and leisure.
I reblogged this yesterday, but I want to reblog it again. Diabetic ketoacidosis turns your blood acidic and will essentially burn you from the inside out.
The stories you hear of people dying from rationing, this is what happens to their body.
Affordable insulin isn’t just a right, it’s a necessity.
No one should have to die like that when it’s preventable with access to proper medication.
really specific trope i like that i feel like can only be explained in a diagram
found this at an antique shop the other day and was immediately like oh this belongs on tumblr. sniles sneetly. fwowns fwangry.
if a trans man needs to hide the fact that he's trans in order to access any form of male privilege, i simply do not believe that is real privilege. i will, and never will, accept that the closet is a privilege. any queer person can go into the closet to access "privilege," and it's dumb when you all try to argue that bs too. are you not tired of making the exact same arguments about recycled queer groups every 5-10 years? nothing is ever new except the New Queer Enemy really IS privileged and evil this time, we promise!
i tend to avoid discourse because most of it is trite and pointless but just this once i feel like i need to state my opinion: i think everyone should bend to my dark and evil will
This is genuinely one of the most vile posts I've ever seen on here.
The idea that transmascs (or any marginalized person, really) are excited about the idea of getting to be "higher" on the social ladder than someone else. This is just plain bigotry with literally no basis in reality.
This post already has hundreds of uncrtical reblogs. Knowing that, at minimum, hundreds of people think this of transmascs makes me sick to my stomach. When history looks back on your hatred I will not be forgiving any of you.
There is no drug on earth that can replicate the absolute euphoria of hitting a writing flow state at 2:00 AM. You aren’t even typing anymore. You are a vessel. You are a channel for the gods. The characters are speaking directly into your brain and you’re just the stenographer trying to keep up. You feel like you could fight a bear. You feel like you invented the alphabet
I got a job at a gas station across from a casino and a guy keeps coming in to buy whole cartons of cigarettes and talks in the third person calling himself "snake eyes pete" and every time I tell him his total hes like "tell ya what if old Pete rolls a snake eyes why dont you give it to him for free?" and he rolls the same set of loaded dice on the counter and it does not matter how many times he rolls snake eyes I will not give him the cartons for free he gets so mad

Another design is using 2 20x25x1 filters, taping them to the sides of the box fan and then to each other so they sort of make a triangle, then cutting cardboard to make a top and bottom to the triangle.
This was discovered as a more effective design during the 2020 US west coast fires.

A better more efficient and odor eliminating homemade air purifier than just taping a 20x20x1 filter to a box fan. Sometimes you need to
If you live on the west coast of the United States, fire season is coming and this is vital.
We’ve been using one, and they’re great. Might try to make the double filter version this year.
theyve been doing a bunch of studies on this during the pandemic and this design is best! 4 filters and a shroud to optimize flow rate.

I’ve personally used both the flat single-filter version AND the triangular two-filter version, and based on subjective personal experience I would argue that the benefits from the second filter, both in terms of airflow and filtration, are absolutely worth it. If you need a makeshift air filter and you have two filters to work with, build the triangle (if not the box, i have no idea how good that one works but based on the info here i presume it’s a fair bit better.)
This trick works. We use it in my house.
