When you pray before eating, pray not just for the person who made the food but to every person who made the food possible, from truck drivers to grocery store employees to farmers and ranchers. Not only are you spreading love in a hateful world, you are humbling yourself.
Prayers are patronizing.
I was always taught that if a person doesn’t want prayers, you oblige them. I personally would take any prayers or well wishes sent to whomever god(s) the person worships. If you don’t want any, that’s valid
