people need to start being normal about teenagers.
now, i’ll preface this by saying i’m 19, nearly out of my teenage years, but i’ve been annoyed by this since i was 13.
it seems that there are two different views of teenagers by adults, and they’re completely opposite, but both completely wrong.
on on side, you have the weirdos that see teenagers as the height of attractiveness and sexuality. obvious wrong, we all know.
but the other side, the side that views teenagers as these pure and innocent beings who should be shielded from the very existence of sex, is also wrong.
now, i’m not saying grown adults should be allowed to have relationships with an make erotica about teenagers. i think people who do that should be drawn and quartered in the town square.
but we need to stop pretending that teenagers don’t have sexual thoughts and desires. they’re going through to most hormone-driven period of their lives, and they often act accordingly.
i see people on this website who will ferociously attack anyone who even suggests that teens know sex exists.
but teens know. they often know before they even become teens.
sex is a natural part of life. it’s not required, by any means, but it’s natural and expected.
and we NEED to educate teens on it. even if it’s awkward. even if it goes against your religious beliefs or your personal moral values.
because teens will have sex. you can’t stop them. it’s physically impossible to completely stop a teenager from doing what they want. they will sneak around. they will break your rules. and they will do it anyway.
what we need to do is educate them, both on safety and on everything else.
in the rise of sexual education programs being defunded and outright banned in some places, sex ed is needed more than ever.
and it’s been proven to work. in the US, teen pregnancy is at a 50 year low. more women in their forties are having kids than teenagers are. and that is a good thing, despite what the conservative pro-natalists say.
and we need to continue that trend. and the only way we can do so is through education. so please, for the love of god, treat teens like people.
