❝I can ask for help with the gang, sure, but everything else is up to me.❞ Chris remarked. It wasn’t like he could ask the Royals for help in rebuilding Sugar Rub. ❝And yes, I’ve been reminded many times over of everyone’s willingness to help. But it has to be on me, at the end of the day.❞

The comment Callum made had Chris chuckling in amusement. ❝Man, you missed the part where I dated a porn star who turned out to be a Devil member.❞ That time felt like ages ago, when in fact, it had only been early on in the year.

Having this question again, he opted to skirt around it this time around. ❝Are you asking me if I love all of you, so much so that I’m willing to risk my own life to lead you lot and make sure everyone’s happy and safe? Then yes.❞

“I think we can help you with more. Come on.” He said looking at him pointedly. “No it doesn’t have to all be on you. We are family right? All of us. What happens to one of us, happens to all of us. So don’t do that bullshit its on you in the end.” He shook his head.

“I’m sorry what?” He said eyes wide. “first a porn star really?” He shook his head. “And then a Devil? I mean that sounds like the kind a mistake I make not you.” He said with a laugh.

“No, I’ m not asking you that. Because I know that answer to that. The question I am asking my friend. is does he want to take on the greatest responsibility of his life, that I am sure he didn’t really get an option in.” He said. “I know you would risk your life for any of these fuckers. But I want to know is, do you really want to lead?”

Camille lifted her eyes up from the medical text book when she heard a voice before she slowly glanced around at the people in the bar around them. People she had gotten to know over the last month and a half. Most of them had been inside of her apartment to get stitched up which was shocking but the woman moved her hand to the book in front of her, shutting it as she reached out and picked up a french fry from the basket in front of her. “I’m royalty around here,” she teased as she glanced up at Patrick when he settled the drinks down in front of them. “Camille Rodriguez,” she took his hand, giving it a shake. “Thanks for the drink.”

Callum took one look over the brunette and the book she was reading. “I bet you are.” He said with a nod. “Anytime. I like buying drinks for the med students in the bar. Its like a hobby of mine.” He said nodding as he took a drink from his beer. “Camille Rodriguez.....” He said as he thought, knowing the name should mean something to him. A light bulb went off when he remembered someone telling him she was the new paramedic there with the club. “Ah, you are the stitcher.” He said with a nod. “A good person to know, but this pretty face. It doesn’t get hit.” He said with a chuckle. “So med school too? You are ambitious.”

“Winning never comes easy,” The brunette coyly pointed out while bringing the door to a close behind her. She shrugged at his statement as the inadequate firewall could have been accessed even by the uneducated. “Only because you were right,” A smile remained on her features while she followed the pull towards his lips before she could settle back into the seat. “If I say no then hell has frozen over,” It wasn’t very often that the denial came from her lips despite the unknown that came with most situations they faced. Her laugh could be heard as she nodded her head in agreement that their positions were the farthest thing from actual work. “I think you just want me to keep saying you’re right,”

“If I’m with you, I’m never losing.” He said with a smile s he pulled off driving towards their destination. “And for the record, I’m always right.” He said waggling his eyebrows at her. “Good, because I am probably going to order too much and need your help finishing it.” He turned the corner and before he could say anyhing else, he heard the tire make that tel tale sign that something was wrong. He pulled over. “That is not a good sound. Hold on.” He told her as he jumped out of the car to check it out. Sure enough the front right tire had gone flat. “I gotta change the flat. You gotta jump out. Sorry babe.” He told her as he opened her door to help her out. Before he stepped away he stole a quick kiss. “You look amazing.” he told her before heading to the trunk to pull out what he needed.

Jenna pursed her lips, as if she were weighing her options between telling her brother or not. She decided on not, the woman liked to keep her secrets. “I feel like he wouldn’t be too pleased to hear about what we’ve been doing.” She laughed, running her fingers through her hair. “You always do.” The woman nodded. “Though I’m still disappointed that I’ll be returning home alone.”

Callum shrugged. “I don’t think it would shock him that much, but I also don’t want to deal with that from him.” He smiled with a nod. “Well I am sure you will be able to find something to do.” He took a sip of his coffee before looking at his phone for the time. “Well, I have to go or I’m going to be late.” He told her as he turned to head towards the door. “I’ll see you.”

“Oh please, I’ll tell my brother why you’re late, he can’t get mad at me.” Jenna teased him, grabbing her coffee once it was set on the counter. “You know I’ll hold you to that.” She smirked, lifting the cup of coffee to her lips and taking a small sip, looking at him over the rim of the cup.

Callum chuckled “As great as it might be to watch you put your brother in his place, I don’t think either of us are prepared to answer the questions that will happen once you do.” He said with a nod of his head. “OF course you can. I always pay up don;t I?” He asked her.

Mara rolled the thin flash drive within her palm while she watched the variety of vehicles pass by her apartment complex. The concrete steps acted as a seat while she waited for the time on her phone to display the Callum’s arrival. She couldn’t help but ponder on the idea of their dynamic shifting with the sight of a familiar vehicle pulling idly to the curb. Her figure rose from the steps to walk towards the car with an empty hand reaching to pull the passenger door open. “Merry Christmas,” The brunette chimed in with a soft smile once her figure fell into the seat while the flash drive was handed in his direction. His prediction of a weakened firewall was proven correct as her efforts took far less time than she anticipated for the retrieval. “Now we can forget about our jobs for a few hours,”

Callum had thought about grabbing one of the other cars, just try to make the night a little nicer, but it was Mara and he had asked her to be herself, so it was only right that he be himself. He was glad he had got the exhaust fixed and it no longer sounded like it was going to explode at any second. He had even had it washed and cleaned on the inside. The impala looked for being more than 50 years old. He pulled up to the curb and saw her waiting. “I’m even early Mara and you still managed to beat me.” He chuckled as she opened the door. He took the flash drive and a smile broke out across his face. “You my little sparrow, are amazing.” He told her before pulling her over to give her a quick kiss. “Now, I hope you are hungry, because the place we are going is so amazing, you won’t be able to say no to anything on the menu.” He said with a smile before pulling away from the curb. “Work? Who works?” He teased.

Ana shook her head and let out a light snort, turning her attention to her glass. “Don’t worry, you did not miss too much. And there is a lot more to come that you’ll be able to enjoy, I feel like.” With that she downed the rest of her drink and once again set her gaze on Callum.

With his question her eyebrows shot up. She licked her lips, feeling the residue of the alcohol on her tongue as she did so and turned more to the man. “Well, that was way easier than I thought.” She commented, but with the current situation she could not feel more happy as she did not really feel like hunting down for apartments and potential roommates all around New York. “That’d be actually great. If of course I fit into your profile of a perfect apartment companion.”

Callum sighed. “Yeah whats one building and a shooting. I mean nothing really.” He said with a shake of his head. He really hated that he was out of state for it. The gang had supported him in so many ways, so to not be there when they needed him really bothered him, but he was on club business when he was out of state, so he was still working things out for them.

“Let me see, do you have a tattoo of a devil on you?” He asked looking her over. “Are you going to steal my clothes?” He thought again. “And are you or have you ever been a roach or a rat? “ He said laughing. “Ana, its more of a question if You can put up with me. You will be a breeze I am sure.”

Grace could remember the first time she had helped her father on a car at the family auto-shop. She couldn’t have been much older than seven or eight but she vividly remembers, doing her best to look through his toolbox, producing the different spanners and the likes at his request. It was the very moment she found her own love for cars, something that was very quick to become a hobby of the woman’s when her father brought her an old beat up 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 for her 16th birthday. One she had spent a number of years working on to get it to the standard it was today. And while she hadn’t perhaps taken the career path her father had wanted for her, she still did her best to help out around the shop when she wasn’t working at the hospital.

Bright blue eyes lit up as a familiar voice sounded out from the door way of the office and Grace found herself making her way out from behind the desk to greet her friend. “CJ, good to see you too.” She countered, as she approached the other wiping the small marks of grease from her hands upon her ripped denim jeans. “Well I’m off from the hospital till next week, so figured I’d lend a helping hand around here, force dad to take a few days off.” She added with a shrug, “To what do I owe this surprise?” She mused, head cocked in curiosity.

Callum nodded at the nickname. ‘You know you are the only one allowed to call me that Gracie.” He said throwing his own familiar nickname at her. “Well, I need to get the exhaust looked at on the impala.” He sighed. “Actually, I think it probably needs more then that, but you would know better than me.” He nodded. “You and I need to hang out. I haven’t seen you since I got back to town and that is a shame.” He smiled at her.

“She comes out every now and then,” Mara admitted with the roll of her eyes as a larger hand lifted to gesture playfully towards her features. She continued inched closer to his form with the physical guidance allowing the unnecessary space between them to diminish. The unexpected shift between the pair came to an abrupt end with the chime of an error message forcing a sigh from her lips. His offer caused the brunette to gently pull back to look over the male while she briefly waited for the sly commentary to come and yet all she received was a subtle expression of uncertainty. A coy smile graced her features despite the nerves that surged through her limbs while accepting the evening plans. “Well, I can’t say no to food,”

“As long as she comes out for me. I guess that will do.” He told her, his lips grazing across hers one last time before she pulled away with the noise made on her laptop. He chuckled at her acceptance. “Good.?” He said as he moved a piece of hair to behind her ear. “I’ll pick you up at 7pm and I have to insist, no laptops.” He smirked before looking at his watch. “Now I have some work to do before our date. I will see you later.” He said before stealing one more kiss from her and heading out.

Callum had finished dropping something off at the shop, something shiny and new and ready for the work they did there. He was quite proud of this one it was something he wasn’t sure he could pull off, but did. He decided he earned a celebratory drink and headed into Ace. “Patrick. I’ll take a bottle of your finest lager.” He said ordering a beer before checking out the landscape. “And whatever that brunette is drinking, send her one too.” He told him before approaching her. “I feel like you are someone I should know, the way everyone around here seems to know you.” He said as he approached her. “Plus Patrick was nice enough to make you a drink on me.” He smiled. “Callum St James.” He said holding out his hand to her.

Noting the hand on his shoulder, as well as the sincere question from him, Chris sighed in response. ❝I’m a mess, Callum.❞ His tone was low enough for only the both of them. ❝I’ve got a business to rebuild, a boyfriend and my entire family to take care of, and a gang to run. How the heck am I gonna do all that?❞ Easily, he knew that he had taken on too much on his plate.

On the topic of Gabriel, the male lightened up a little bit. ❝Yeah, I have to thank his ass for coming back home. Otherwise, who knows?❞ For all he knew, he could have still been suffering just as much, just without someone to lean on.❝And yes, the news is true. Not like I have an out for it.❞

Callum could tell even before he said it. “Tell me you aren’t trying to do it all by yourself? You gotta let us help you.” He looked at him pointedly. “You have all of us behind you to help you. Let us do some of it.” He told him nodding. “I have a feeling you would have gone after him sooner or later.” He stopped for a moment. “Do you want it?” He asked, the question sincere and not with judgement.

Xander couldn’t tell you what day he was in during his little ‘departure’ from the gang. In reality, the guy didn’t leave New York City, and if anyone really wanted to get in contact with, they could have, but he wasn’t making an effort to come around or reach out. Which, if you knew the guy was out of character, but at the same time, the only ones who would know were involved in his messy situation. Except for Chris, but that was probably one of the last people he wanted to bother at the moment. So, it came to no surprise to his liver that he found himself yet again at the bar tonight.

Much like when he had first made his appearance at Ace, the guy sat at the bar with a bottle he had purchased for himself that evening. It had become a habit that when he was at rock bottom, he would buy bottles at the bar instead of making the bartender come over ever five minutes for a refill. As he lifted the glass to lips for another swig of his Whiskey, the door to the bar opened, and Xander turned to look at who had entered.

Out of all the people in the city, Callum was one of the last people he thought he would run into right now. For one, he wasn’t anywhere near Ace or Royals territory, and for another, he hadn’t seen his old friend in quite some time. It was, however, a pleasant surprise, and he wasted no time in calling the other over. “Well, well, well. Look who finally decided to show up.” He turned to the bartender and asked for another glass, filling it with some Whiskey, and turning to hold it out for the other male. “Come here and have this overdue shot with me, my guy.”

Callum was making the rounds to some of his local watering holes that he enjoyed frequenting when he was actually in his home town He had decided on a place close to where he was currently staying, Gabe’s place until he found his own apartment. Which was proving to be harder and harder than he expected it to be. He did seem to find a roommate in Anastasia.

When he opened the door into the darkened bar, he was temporarily unable to see who was in while his eyes adjusted from the bright son to the stark darkness of the hold in the wall bar. When he was able to see again he saw his friend, someone he certainly hadn’t been expecting to see sitting across the room from him. A smile on his face. “Why Xander have you missed me that much?” He asked as he sat next to him. “Yes, shots, afternoon drinking, my favorite kind of drinking. Pour me a shot.” He said clapping his friend on the back. He got a look at his friend. “Well now I know why you are drinking? What the hell happened?” He asked him motioning to the shiner he was sporting

Stopping by the bar, he sidled up to where Callum was. ❝I know. I like to be dramatic.❞ Chris wagged his brows playfully at the other male, making light of the whole conversation. ❝Yeah, I know.❞

After ordering his drink, he then turned back to him, leaning against the bar counter now. ❝I’m managing.❞ he said, noting that the aura was quick to turn serious. ❝I mean, how is one really supposed to be doing when one’s business burns down and one’s boyfriend gets shot?❞ he shot back with a cool shrug, trying to state everything in a rather easier tone, wanting to rid of the seriousness in the air.

Callum chuckled. “Don’t I know it Diva.” He said taking a drink of his beer. He put his hand on the shoulder of the other man. “Yeah? But how are you really? None of the bullshit you tell everyone else.” He couldn’t imagine how it felt. “Well, I saw Gabe. Glad you two are working that out. You both were always happier together.” He told him. “I also here you’ve been tapped to be the big boss man.” He said with a nod.

Joshua: Oh, not much

Joshua: A raid, a fire, a shooting. Just small stuff.

Callum: Fire and shooting I knew about.

Callum: Raid? Who was raided.

SMS - Josh

Joshua: You don't say?

Joshua: How ya been?

Callum: I'm alright. Working on some stuff with Evan.

Callum: What did I miss?

He smiled nodding. “Good because I like the real Mara. This Mara.” He said as drew a circle in the air around her face. He felt a shiver of pleasuring through him as her nails trailed across his skin. Her actions pressed him on his hands reaching and pulling her in closer pressing him against her. He would have ignored the rest of the world forever in that moment but he heard the telltale sounds from her computer that said something was happening. He pulled back from her and before she could do or say anything he spoke. “Let me take you out to dinner tonight.” He said to her as her bit on his lower lip.

The understanding she had with the attentive male nearly caused her feet to backpedal in fear of what could form with it. Her initial attempt to keep him at arms length failed miserably when he continued to remain by her side. “I’d like to see you catch me,” She pointed out with a guilty smile as the words could be proven wrong by his continued success in tracking her down. “I can play the part,” A hand briefly raised to sarcastically twirl a piece of hair with her eyes rolling to display a false persona of empty-headedness. Mara began to read over the paused coding which now displayed positive results from the undetected connection that would be established by the end of the day. “The last idea you had to pass the time almost got us arrested,” Her soft revelation came with a sideways glance taken in his direction but the returning lean in his figure caught her full attention. She found herself following his advance until their lips met with subtle anticipation of what was to come from their hinted conversation. The brunette only allowed the kiss to deepen for a borrowed moment before there was a small amount of space put between their faces. “A rainy day isn’t always worth waiting for,”

Callum chuckled at her words. “Oh come on little sparrow, you know how much I like a challenge.” He said, his fingers playing on her arm. He shrugged. “I am sure you can fool the others, but I know you and you can’t fool me, no matter how hard you try.” He laughed when she reminded him of the last time. “But we didn’t and that was probably one of my favorite jobs.” He slid a hand to the back of her neck pulling her in closer to him. “But this might be more fun, but could still get us arrested if we stay here.” He whispered against her lips before kissing them again. He didn’t waste any of the seconds while his lips were touching hers. “Rainy days are overrated.” He whispered.
