Communication Issues

Entry #3: After some time to relax after the latest Team Rocket debacle I’ve once again decided to take a look at this device.

If taking care of a Dodrio was familiar... do you think you might have had a Dodrio or Hydreigon at some point?

I’m honestly not familiar with the hydreigon species but as for a Dodrio? I...I don’t know. Maybe?Just one more question to add to the list I guess.

Alternate Universe Communication, Cont.

Entry #2: Alright, so I’ve got a working theory for what this device is for. It’s connected to some kind of website which can only be accessed through the device, but which allows thousands, maybe millions, of anonymous users to communicate with each other. ...Note to self: Next time I’m in a town I need to look up this Tumblr.com thing.

Do you know if there are any new, updated models of Pokedex currently in development? One researcher to another.

Ash’s model is the latest one and they aren’t out for consumer production yet. I guess you could consider his the prototype? Beta model? I’m sure Professor Oak has been using the data from it and whoever else he gave a pokedex to in order to develop new ones.

Actually, I’m not sure if Professor Oak is the one responsible for making them. I know he provided almost all the data files on it, all the ones I’ve read on Ash’s pokedex have his name on the articles, but the hardware and circuitry might be the work of a different Professor? Not Professor Akihabara. Maybe Rowan? Or Juniper?

New models will come out soon I’m sure. The pokedex will go through a wide range of styles and updates and eventually every region will have their own signature style!

...How do I know that?

How are you feeling, Cal? Studying to be a professor must be hard work.

I’m doing pretty good! It helps that I really do love studying pokemon, even if I’m not always...totally enthusiastic about my dream. The hardest part is getting study resources. Not a whole lot of libraries in the forest. 

Mostly I just feel like I need a nap. Or a coffee. Whichever.

What Gym is your group going to next?

The Cinnabar Gym on Cinnabar Island. We’re heading for the coast line now but it’s slow going. We keep getting...side tracked.

It’s okay, I guess. I’m just a little sensitive. Our journey hasn’t exactly been “risk free.”

Do you have a favorite type of Pokemon? Utility-wise, with how its abilities work. Do you prefer Water, Fire, Grass, something else? Why? (It's cool to get to know different Trainers by asking these types of questions >w< )

I still wish I knew who you are, but yeah it is nice to get to know other trainers!Picking a favorite pokemon is impossible but a favorite type? I have to say Psychic. But I guess I’m a little biased there.

Cal, don't you have three--no, four Normal-types on your team? Fearow, Cleffa, Jigglypuff, and Porygon. Are you worried about type coverage for battle or do you have any plans to teach those last three some elemental moves to make up for it? I know Fearow can cover their weaknesses of Fighting...

Normal? Oh! Right, yeah. That...

Cleffa and Jigglypuff are capable of some Psychic-adjacent moves. Like Sing, for example! Porygon can learn Electric attacks. I have Char and Gyarados for Fire and Water too.I’m not really concerned about type advantages in battle. If you’re clever and can use the environment around you it’s possible to negate most of the advantages/disadvantages that might pop up. And if I’m ever that badly outclassed then I’ll have to rely on my friends to cover my weaknesses, I guess.

...I hope it never comes to that.

Are there any Shiny Pokemon that you want to see?

I’d love to examine any Shiny pokemon! Aren’t they fascinating? Pokemon are usually as close to identical as its possible to get but Shiny pokemon are unique!

Most trainers think they’re just different colors but that’s only the surface! Ash’s Butterfree is mated to a Shiny Butterfree and she had a totally different wing structure! Different enough to affect her flight pattern. I guess if I had to pick one Shiny to see it would be her, and not just to examine her wings more closely! I’m sure Ash would love to see his Butterfree again!
