sometimes you love a character so loudly that it becomes how people find you, how people connect with you, how people know you. and then. sometimes you fall in love with a new character. and you think "but the first character is how people know me, i can't change how people know me. i can't love a new character." but i am here to tell you that connection is actually a very resilient thing and the people that care about you will happily learn you over and over and over again if you give them the chance. just do what you wanna do.

Ideas on how to connect with your f/o 💋

Make a playlist for your f/o - use spotify or youtube.

Re-watch their scenes.

Write a fanfic about them and post it online.

Write poetry for them and post it online.

Draw the two of you together if you’re an artist.

Write a song about them, imagine yourself singing it to them.

Look at pictures of them, perhaps save them as your lockscreen/wallpaper.

Purchase their merchandise.

Create all kinds of headcanons for them. They don’t even have to fit their canon story- because canon doesn’t have to matter or exist!

Read other people’s headcanons about your f/o. 

While lying in bed, imagine them curled up next to you, perhaps spooning you and whispering sweet nothings into your ear. Picture them talking about their day as you fall asleep. Bunch up some blankets or place a pillow behind you to make it feel realistic. Imagine them kissing your neck and sighing as they inhale your scent.

Imagine taking a shower with them. Picture them standing behind you washing your hair.

Plan dates in your head, picture how they’d unfold. Think of questions you’d like to ask them so you can get to know them better.

If you need to reconnect with your f/o, imagine new headcanons or decide to take things to a higher level- Engagement, marriage, moving in etc.

imagine your f/o waiting for you. in any capacity.

waiting for you to be ready to be in a relationship. waiting for you to be ready to be touched in any way. waiting for you to be ready to kiss. waiting for you to be ready to sleep next to them. waiting for you if you’re seeing someone else. waiting for you if you live far away. waiting for you if you don’t know what you want yet. imagine them waiting because they know they don’t want anybody else.

and even if your f/o isn’t someone that’s waited in the past, even if your f/o has a reputation for taking things fast with previous relationships, they’d wait for you. things are different for them when it comes to you. meeting you made them realize that they don’t want anybody else. meeting you made them realize that there is nothing better out there. they’ve got all the time in the world.

your f/o will wait for as long as you need. they’ll wait forever and they won’t complain about it because they love you and you’re worth it.

I haven't felt particularly close to Jonathan in quite some time now too, so imagine my delight when I read what you wrote in this ask and I felt this warmth spreading inside me 🥰

You know what, having an f/o is really nice because sometimes life sucks and last thing that keeps me from commiting a murder is their smile

self shipping is a great way to cope, and it can help a whole lot, but sometimes it’s not what you need. and that’s okay. it doesn’t have to be a linear experience. it doesn’t have to be constant. sometimes you just don’t have the energy or the time or, as upsetting as it might be, the desire to self ship. and that’s okay. because your f/o(s) understand, and they’ll be there for you if or when you return. you will not hurt your f/o by needing a break. they understand, they support you, and they just want you to be happy.
