f/o who never cries x selfshipper who cries so easily
coffee shop au with canon-typical violence
Chronically offline f/o… They look over your shoulder when you’re scrolling and suddenly you’re explaining years worth of internet history so they get some random meme you were looking at. They respond to every text with 👍. They don’t know how to take selfies. They get you to solve every tech problem you have and think you turning something off and turning it back on again makes you a genius.

Do you ever struggle with getting out of bed in the morning? Even though you want to, even though you know it will make you feel better, does finding the energy or motivation to do so eludes you?
Your f/o will help out, every time.
Maybe they're gentle, their hands landing on your shoulders, stroking your cheek, or ruffling your hair as soft words fill the space between you. They remind you of things in the immediate to look forward to—breakfast, fun outings and activities, the feeling of sunlight on your skin, a cool breeze—and, if you need it, they'll help gently guide you up to sitting, then getting out of bed, when you're ready.
There's no rush, no hurry: just a constant and loving patience.
Alternatively, perhaps their method of helping comes from a place of unbridled energy. They bound into the room practically vibrating, rapidly talking about all the plans you two have for the day, particular parts they're looking forward to, and anything else that jumps to mind, eager to share anything and everything with you.
From the light in their eyes and their beaming smile beaming, it's evident that they're just so genuinely excited to be spending time with you: it's as if their energy becomes yours, and suddenly getting up feels effortless—or, depending on their level of excitement, it very well might be...they might start rolling you out of bed before they even realise what they're doing...
Or, if they're the less immediately affectionate kind, or they know you might need a little more of a hands-on method: imagine them pulling you out of bed themselves. They'll see if you're able to get up on your own, and if you can't (or won't—even though you both know you'll feel better if you do, it can be hard to remember in the moment), then they'll help sit you up, nudge you out of bed, and start your morning rhythms.
Sometimes, they simply also lift you out directly, bundling you into their arms like a precious, belovéd treasure...or throwing you over their shoulder like a sack of potatoes before lugging you away, depending on your dynamic.
Whether they politely ignore any protests, give gentle reassurances, or squabble with you until you start to settle and realise just how much they've helped you, their actions come from a place of love. They've learned over time to tell the difference between when you're enjoying a lie-in and sinking into despair, and they will do everything in their power to make you comfortable in the former and break the cycle of the latter.
Your f/o understands it's hard, and they're here to help: whenever you're struggling, just know they're right by your side, cheering you on. They know you deserve a life that brings you happiness, and they'll do whatever it takes to help you reach it, even on mornings like this.
It's criminal more people don't know about this commercial
Selfshipping as a means of self-regulation is so real like shit will have me thinking Wooooowwwww I want to engage in so many unhealthy behaviors right now. But instead of doing things that will end up hurting myself in the long run I can just hold hands with The Character in my mind. Life is beautiful actually
Hershel and the little prince!
I was thinking about the little prince and i realized him and the Professor look so similar!! I wonder if that's why im so fond of the gentleman...
Anyways i also believe they would truly form a pleasant bond! A curious child and a man of academics... They would have such a lovely time (◕ᴗ◕✿)
I feel like we don't talk enough about how introducing riako/gachikoi, oshikatsu, and similar terms, as selfship terms has done irreprable damage to the selfship community by turning it into a competition for how much merch you own of your F/O.
Back then, owning a bunch of merchandise of your F/O was a novelty. You would look at the guy who owns a bunch of Lola Bunny toys and go "wow, he's really devoted!" because you rarely saw something like that. Those people were so in love with their F/Os, that they went out of their way to buy a lot of merch of them.
Nowadays, it feels like a requirement. Now the expectation is that love your F/Os because of the merch. More merchandise = more love for your F/O. And if you don't have enough merch of them, you aren't actually in love with them. And even if you do have a lot of merch, it's never going to be enough.
I genuinely do blame the use of riako/gachikoi/oshikatsu and similar terms being used for selfshipping because, such terms came from Japanese idol communuties that already encouraged extremely unhealthy views on love and especially with parasocial relationships. Hell, riako/gachikoi literally refer to believing that an idol (as in, a flesh and blood human who exists right here in our world) is in love with you, specifically, and that this is a good thing. A fictional character can't be hurt by you, but a real person will.
Sometimes that real person is you, going into debt to prove yourself the winner of a nonexistent competition. You should buy merch of your F/O because you enjoy having it. If you feel like you "need" to or else you aren't "truly" in love, that's when you need to stop and think about whether you actually like selfshipping or not.
Honestly this is also why I and many others are so critical about Japanese terms being used by non-Asians and especially how prevalent this issue is in selfship spaces. If you can't even tell me where these terms come from and what they mean, stop tacking them onto yourself for aesthetic.
