At My Window (Sad and Lonely)

Firstly, thank you for checking out my project! These are a collection of four songs inspired by the view from my bedroom window: Ayr beach front.

The songs are intended to be an audio/visual journey, with less emphasis on the visual, they are just my experiences, and what i was inspired by when i wrote the songs.

The videos are quite jumpy, just filmed off my phone as i went! You can either listen to the songs and use the visuals to aid you in the sonic journey, or just close your eyes, and create your own visuals.

These songs are songs to invoke emotion, i hope you enjoy them.

This is my fourth and final piece for my Creative Arts Project. I really wanted to write something that depicted a journey, and sticking with the theme of writing songs from my window and what i can see from there, this journey starts at one end of Ayr Beach and finishes at the other. This walk has been great for me the four years i have lived in Ayr, it clears your head, it's an inspiration, and is a beautiful walk in the late afternoon, so i decided to make this song sound a little happier than the other three pieces. I can't stress enough how difficult i found that... I wasn't too chuffed with having to upload this onto YouTube so i could embed it here, but what's done is done, might as well upload the rest! Thank's for listening to my songs, i hope you enjoy listening to them as much as i enjoyed writing and recording them. Sorry for the shaky camera work, and shawdy, SHAWDY editing :D

“Tonight, Beach Lights” is a song i started working on years ago, then abandoned. It’s last surfacing was 3 years ago, during my first year of University, during the Live Performance module. At the time, it started out as a pop-punk song, and swiftly turned into a more Portishead-meets-Gaslight Anthem kind of song to fit in with our set at the time. Three years on and i was gutted i’d never recorded it, so here it is, accompanied by the beautiful street lights of the Ayr beach front, from a really bad quality camera phone, and my cold shaky hands.

The music is intended to make you think about night time, and the lights that come with it. I wanted to get some frost on film, as that was the working title for the song, but i missed out on that weather. I love the lights you see on the pavilion in Ayr though :) This is my favourite of my Creative Arts Project compositions, and i hope you enjoy it too! x

"Tranquility In Waves" is a song i wrote roughly 4 years ago, but never brought myself to record it.  When thinking about what footage i wanted to use for this song, my mind went blank, until looking through my old footage and found clips from 2011's Twitter sensation, "Hurricane Bawbag". I felt this footage would be perfect, as it reflects the fun we had driving around Ayr beach that day, and also the fun i had finally recording this song. As for the "At My Window (Sad and Lonely)" motif, this particular 'hurricane' tore a huge chunk out of my outside wall, and broke the sealant around my window... Enjoy :)

"At My Window Sad And Lonely" is a song by Billy Bragg and Wilco on the album 'Mermaid Avenue'. I chose this as the title for my song, as well as the rest of the project, as this is where i write the majority of my music works. Not necessarily being sad or lonely mind you, but sometimes it helps. The song was originally a very heavy song, which i decided to strip bare, and replacing the vocal melodies with the second guitar improvising mostly over the same melody line. This has taken the song from a 5/4 prog metal piece, and turned it into one of my favourite compositions to date.
