âWe got your report card today.â Calumâs mother uttered in a grave tone that he immediately recognized as a sign of displeasure. She was seated tensely in front of him, while her arms were crossed over the dinner table with her husband at her side. This was exactly the subject that Calum wished to avoid, especially since it would probably end up interfering with the upcoming soccer season that he had been anticipating.Â
âMom, I can boost my grades by the end of the year and-â Calum started but before he continued his father interjected,Â
âYou need to get your grades up now. Not at the end of the year or else you wonât be able to graduate.â He stared sternly at Calum, âYouâre failing 3 classes Calum! Soccer can only get you so far.â
His last statement resonated in Calumâs mind. Although it was undeniable that his parents were somewhat supportive in his endeavor to be a pro soccer player, he knew that they doubted he could make it in the long run or create a career out of it.Â
âGive me a chance to fix this myself.â Calum nearly pleaded.Â
âWeâve let this go on far too long.â His mother countered. Feeling his stomach drop, Calum expected to hear her say that he would have to quit soccer. However, she continued, âYou can keep playing soccer but weâve hired a tutor for you.â
Calum was startled for a couple of seconds. In his mind, he had thought that they would just make him sit down and study by himself every day but he didnât imagine they would bring someone else into the equation. Pursing his lips, he mumbled accepting the fact that he wouldnât be able to ignore their wishes. âWell who is it?â
âOh, itâs Y/N Y/L/Nâ HIs mother responded, failing to mask the fact that she was surprised he didnât put  up a fight.Â
Calum raised his eyebrows, âWho?â
His mother replied to his confused inquiry, âThe girl across the street. Sheâs around your age.â
âSince when? No one from my school lives on this street?â
