NEW ACCOUNT: @writehampton
The day was quite sunny and Y/N was sitting on her bed with the window open, studying for her final exams. She only had one left--thank goodness! Calculus wasn’t her best subject, so she spent more time studying for it than the rest of her exams. While finishing the last problem, she heard her window open.
“What the hell?” She yelled, looking up to see Cam climbing through her window.
“Hey, Y/N!” Cam smiled, sitting on the edge of her bed. “I see you’re doing calculus, that’s some challenging math.”
“Would you stop coming in through the windows? It scares the hell out of me everytime!”
“What, you thought I was a burglar or something?” Cam laughed loudly.
“I’d just like a heads up next time, or maybe you could just use your key and come through the door like a normal person.” Y/N looked back down at her textbook and continued to solve the problem.
“Y/N!” Cam whined. “Let’s do something interesting! You’ve been locked up in your room for the past week.” He scooted towards her, holding both of your hands.
“Well I’ve gotta get through uni!” Y/N rolled her eyes, growing tired of Cam’s antics.
They had been dating for close to a year and usually talked every day or so. Cam met Y/N at this party in Newcastle that Dan dragged him to. He remembered it like it was yesterday. She was leaning up against the wall, casually sipping out of her cup and scrolling through her phone.
“Cam, you should go and chat her up! She’s a fit lass!” Dan nudged his friend’s arm, looking smug.
“Alright, alright! If I do will you stop nagging me?” Cam walked up to Y/N who was still on her phone.
“Hey.” Cam said, hoping to get her attention.
“Hi.” She waved awkwardly.
“My name is Cam but you can call me anytime.” He smirked, trying to sound as serious as possible. Y/N started laughing and Cam followed soon after.
“That’s got to be the worst pick up line I’ve ever heard!” Y/N laughed, covering her mouth. “By the way, I’m Y/N.”
“At least I tried.” He looked into Y/N’s eyes as they shined brightly under the lights.
“Would you wanna dance? I have some pretty iconic moves.” Cam smiled.
“Like what?” Y/N sassed.
Cam stepped away from her and attempted to do the wave. He then transitioned into doing the robot before awkwardly swaying.
“I would feel much better about my dancing if you were with me, Y/N.”
Y/N put her phone in her pocket and walked up to Cam. She joined along with his awkward dancing and had a great time. Once the song changed to something slower they decided to sit down away from the commotion.
“So, what brings you to Newcastle?” Cam asked.
“I’m here for university. I wanted to have a fresh view and go out on my own. I’m assuming that you enjoy it here?” Y/N tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
“Yeah. I mean, it’s home so it has a nice feeling to it. I still get to do what I want and at the same time be near my friends and family.”
Y/N smiled. Cam seemed really down to earth.
“What do you want?”
“Oi, getting deep are we? I feel like I’m on a talk show. Well, in all seriousness, I really wanna create things I’m proud of. I have a YouTube channel—”
“No way! That’s pretty cool.” Y/N smiled. In that moment, she knew Cam was dedicated to what he does.
“Yeah! I mostly give commentary on things but it takes a lot of work. What I want is to keep doing that and get better at making things that I and other people can enjoy.”
“It’s nice to know you care about your future.” she said.
“Says the person who’s going to uni!”
“It’s whatever.”
The two sat in a moment of comfortable silence.
“You know, my number is still up for grabs...” Cam laughed quietly.
“Alright, give me your phone.” Y/N put her hand out.
“Seriously?” Cam raised his eyebrows.
“Give it before I change my mind.” Y/N smirked. Cam handed Y/N his phone and she typed her number in, sending herself a text. She glances at the time. “It’s 1 AM? Shit—I’ll just call an Uber.”
“Surely I can take you home, if you don’t mind. Uber isn’t really the safest option...”
“What about your friend?”
“He’ll probably catch a ride with someone else.” Cam got up and lead Y/N to his car. The car ride was quite short, Y/N waved goodbye and Cam waited to see that she got inside safely.
“Cam!” Y/N yelled, waving a hand in front of his face.
“What’re you doing?”
“Sorry, I was daydreaming about when we first met...” Cam blushed and looked down, smiling.
“That party was boring, I’m glad that you brightened the mood.”
“And I’m gonna do that again right now.” Cam closed Y/N’s textbook and placed her pencil next to it. “We’re leaving this house. For heaven’s sake we could even go to Asda!” Cam slid off the bed and pulled Y/N up with him. He pecked her lips. “Let’s go.” Cam led Y/N out of her apartment and to his car, then drove to the Asda parking lot.
“You were serious?” Y/N turned to Cam and laughed. They both got out of the car and walked up to the entrance.
“You’re low on snacks! And I was thinking we could go to the park afterwards.” Cam said, grabbing a trolley.
“That doesn’t sound too bad.” Y/N climbed into the trolley.
The couple walked around until they found the snack aisle. Cam grabbed multiple bags of crisps and threw them into the cart while Y/N caught them. After checking out, they walked to the park that was around a mile away. They were surrounded by beautiful trees that held chirping birds. Families walked through the trails and kids ran around. Runners and cyclists zoomed by.
“How does it feel to finally leave the house?” Cam smirked. Y/N rolled her eyes, scoffing at him. It couldn’t of been that long, could it?
“It’s nice to get a breath of fresh air, but it’s nicer spending time with you.” Y/N smiled, knowing she sounded cheesy. Out of the few boyfriends she’s had, none of them have been as great as Cam. She knew that underneath all of his sarcasm that he cared for her wellbeing.
“That was pretty smooth, ten out of ten.” Cam and Y/N sat down on a nearby bench. The duo took in their surroundings, eating crisps and enjoying nature. One thing they both loved about their relationship was that they didn’t have to speak all the time. The two of them could just enjoy each other’s presence. Cam reached out and grabbed Y/N’s hand, gratefully accepting.
