R.I.P to film critic Tony Rayns. I only learned of him about two months ago, after I had rewatched Chungking Express and became a bit obsessed with it. I had a long car drive and I wanted to listen to a discussion about the movie, and I ended up listening to all of Tony’s commentary that he recorded for Criterion. He seems to have lived in Hong Kong and also possibly Taipei in the 80s and 90s and was at one point close with Wong Kar Wai and maybe also Edward Yang. What an interesting time and place he lived in. I also recently watched Edward Yang’s Confucian Confusion and Mahjong and I was wowed by both. 90s Hong Kong and Taiwan cinema seems like a really special moment in time that is kind of gone forever.
When you’re nWo, you’re nWo 4 life 🥹
Chungking Express predicted listening to the same song on repeat :/
This beautiful art gave me a jump scare!! I have family on Maui and I've lost track of how much time we've spent sneaking into the resorts along the Wailea beach path. Totally fine if you don't want to share but curious if you live on island or if the place has any particular meaning to you!

The only thing I’ll say is a lot of the landscape and cityscape art I made from 2016-2018 was based on real locations in the world. That’s really cool that you recognize that spot. That particular one is based on a location in Hawaii, though I can’t remember the exact place, so maybe it’s the one you’re thinking of. I seem to recall there was a golf course
I think the top two candidates to be the “Citizen Kane of our time” are Paris, Texas and Chungking Express. One of those is who all the critics should have gotten behind
Remember in 2022 when employers were desperate to keep employees and people were leaving their jobs for better paying ones? Seems like another planet
Climatically speaking, the only people in North America who can have anything resembling a Rohmer summer are in the western parts of Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia
Quentin Tarantino cried when he saw Chungking Express because it was so beautiful
I believe it was Courage the Cowardly Dog who said… “The things we do for love” <3
I just randomly remembered the general anti-Beatles sentiment on tumblr around 2014 or 2015. There was a photo of one of their albums in a toilet that was liked and shared a lot lol. Seems like ages ago. I guess that sort of thing is cyclical? I wasn’t alive in the 80s but I read somewhere that there was a bit of an anti-Beatles or anti-Paul sentiment back then as well? The popularity of The Clash’s London Calling would support that position, I suppose
i guess, technically speaking, i've been casually looking for a job since 2021
One thing I didn’t really anticipate is how unemployable I would be at this point in life
criterion just be letting anybody in the criterion closet
i feel too burned out from my current job to look for other jobs.
who is the person at Ralph Lauren naming the pant fits Whitman, Salinger, and Burroughs? And the shoes Merton? I want that job
