Camping 6 tips: Festival season
The festival season is getting closer and closer! Time to show your cool outfit, dance to the beats of your favourite music and enjoy the fresh outdoors whilst sipping your cocktail. Or beer, whichever festival you’re going. Nowadays, you’re mostly able to camp on-site, which makes the outdoor experience extra fun. However, you’re not the only one. Hundreds or even thousands of visitors might do the same and before you know it, the campsite is overrun. How to prepare yourself as best as possible when sleeping on a festival campsite can be found right here.
1. Prepare your festival camping trip!
Probably not the fun part for most, but definitely worth it. Firstly, create a group app via Whatsapp and invite all your friends who will join the festival. Divide tasks to be done amongst your friends in order to have everything clear. Create a list of essentials to bring along: tent, sleeping bags, air mattress with pump, inflatable pillow, bug spray, personal items (e.g. extra pair of clothing, shower gel, deodorant, toothbrush).
2. Travel light
There’s so much stuff that you want to bring along, but remember that the distance to the camping ground of a festival is usually quite far. You probably don’t want to pressure your back, especially if you haven’t danced yet! So how to travel light? Fix a pop-up tent, inflatable mattress and pillow, a lock, and a thin sleeping bag. These are probably the essentials that you definitely need.
3. Camping spot: Find the best one
Try to be at the camping ground as soon as you can, because it will be super crowded. Finding a nice camping spot is very personal. However, most people tend to camp right before the entrance, near water or at the very end. So if you’re looking for a relatively quiet space, try to find a spot in the middle of the the campsite at high ground (on a hilltop). Bet you don’t want to get flooded when it rains..
4. Make your tent unique
Arriving at the camping ground right when the festival comes to an end can be a disaster. It’s dark, there’s heaps of people and you still have to find your tent in the middle of hundreds of other tents. Placing your tent on higher ground is already a plus. Now you need to figure a way how to make your tent unique. Think of placing a branch/stick next to your tent with a flag. Or make sure that your tent has reflection in order to make it easier to find.
5. The day after
You wake up and feel like getting a shower. This is usually an issue when you camp at festival terrains. Especially in the morning this can be a complete disaster, because of the long queues at the shower. But did you know there are portable showers? More info about these portable showers can be found right here.
6. Food
There are multiple lightweight camp stoves to bring along. And luckily there is plenty of food that is easy to make. Our favourite is the pancake shaker! Canned food, like sausages are fine as well. If a campfire is allowed on site, then check this blog for inspiring campfire snacks!
