I play on NA, not super frequently but hey. I am here.

My Name is Jet, I use he/they pronouns. I can't introduce every character I have, because there are... 50 of them (well, five slots for joke characters, 45 slots for giant piles of lore in people suites.) I am known for my insane spreadsheet that makes sure I've covered every single backstory option. Hyperfixation go brrrrrr

I can't find my old screenshots, but I'll try and update this blog with some character profiles once I have the time to take them.

Something I really love from the core personal story of gw2 is recurring background characters. Like there's an asura named Elli who shows up during the asura personal story who uses holograms to commentate a golem fight. She'll also show up in chapter 3 of the sylvari story line doing the same thing for some illegal fighting matches in gendarran fields. And you can meet her again during the level 80 story line where you learn that a Whispers specialist named Agent Zott has helped her improve her holograms for battle and the two joined forces to fight Zhaitan in Orr, where they slowly developed feelings for each other. And then you have to watch Zott tragically die from the hands of an undead marksman, which leads a now grieving Elli to continue fighting Zhaitan in his honor. Oh, and during HoT you can even ask how she's doing and you'll learn that she left the Pact because she was disgusted by Scarlet's abuse of holomancy. And like??? She's not even a main character??? And there are so many other NPCs like her??? I mean there's two charr characters named Snarl and Galina who appear during the charr story, the vigil's lvl 60 story, AND the lvl 80 story who have a whole enemies to lovers thing going on and its adorable, the charr warband norn characters accidentally stole a tank from can be seen using their machines again in Orr, and a bunch of the original Order spokespeople for the races can be seen again throughout the story. I just love how, although the story revolves around the commander, you'll still find that there are so many other people on the same path as you. People who, just like you, have been inspired to change and grow, taking part in this seemingly impossible battle against the Elder Dragons. For such a small addition, it really helped make the world and its people seem so much more fluid and alive. i mean at least that's just what I think //

a lot of folkz are saying “wtf is this” so i will explain

if you were on tarnished coast before megaservers were a thing, there was this special welcome greeter waiting for you in the heart of the mists and his name was goo goo gaa gaa

he was a max height max build human with This array of facial features and the tiniest head possible and he was 99% OF THE TIME. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. just afking by the heart of the mists entrance portal right there to greet you

this caused a frenzy on TC. he became a meme! everybody loved our server regular, goo goo gaa gaa!

and so he Spread

other people started making similar alts either to AFK with the head boss himself or in his absence so as to ensure no one’s day was left without the presence of a goo goo gaa gaa or associate. people started to make other “meme shock” characters as well as you can see from this sylvari here. here’s goo goo gaa gaa with another server regular, Skinned Clown, who i’m pretty sure still actively plays the game:

also, while alts made by other people were in abundance, it’s worth nothing that the real live goo goo gaa gaa was not just a singular throwaway alt. the person who made him was dedicated. like, reALLY, REALLY DEDICATED:

you could occasionally see them out levelling their various goo goo gaa gaa troupe alts or afking in lions arch or whatever which was INFINITELY scarier and more jarring than witnessing them in the heart of the mists as goo goo gaa gaa was a walking liminal space and the mists were the only context in which he felt normal. i have friends who will literally tell stories about the actually terrifying times they saw this guy somewhere that WASNT the pvp lobby and the way they speak of it is with reverence for this legend

i don’t really know Where Are They Now? and whether they still play the game or not but on my closing note here i really wanna emphasize how prevalent and legendary this dude is. like this person afked on this alt constantly in the mists for what im pretty sure was MONTHS. TC was both beside themselves but also incredibly used to his presence. every time any of my friends entered the mists i’d hear via guild chat “yep, there he is again”. goo goo gaa gaa predated megaservers, the wardrobe, edge of the mists, and instanced living stories. he thrived during the time of pvp skins and transmutation stones and gw2 having an actual roleplay community. we joke about like, horses or bugged things being gw2 cryptids but goo goo gaa gaa is the one, true, original alpha cryptid of gw2 and absolutely always will be.

Hold up, cause imma hijack this post to talk to you about our lord and savior SKINNED CLOWN! That’s right–the fella in that screenshot with the bear? That’s Skinned Clown– and they were around awhile before Lord Goo Goo of Gaagaa-ton.

They were actually a very competent RPer, and I was grateful to get to know them briefly as a player, and interact with their alts. But this is the character for which they were best known: a literal skinned clown. No dermis of any kind, just flesh and meat and blood, and the only words it would ever utter were “HHHHHHHH”, to denote the raspy breathing of something that should be dead or dying, but seems to be happy to frolick with the children in the orphanage. They were a bright pink, flesh-colored sylvari that ran around DR in nothing but that creepy mesmer mask.

Yeah. And did I mention that they were almost universally loved? You’d think TC would recoil in horror from something so grotesque in concept, but NOPE! We embraced this beautiful baby—and then bleached our clothes afterwards.

i was thinking about a commander who realised they were trans after getting the option to have an androgynous disguise in EoD

and then i was reminded that the commander's pronouns are basically always they/them in voice-acting post-EoD

so now i'm delighting myself with the idea of a commander who has a Realisation about themself mid-EoD. they'd met non-binary people (and dragons) before but never thought to apply it to themselves

playing gw2 is like. did you know many of the main characters have introductory short stories you can read online from ten years ago. did you know they make cute episode trailers for youtube and one of them is a mission impossible parody and one of them is the most heartwrenching scene acting in a video game, but it's. it's on youtube.

did you know there's short stories on their website about caithe finding herself after heartbreak, and zafirah coming to terms with misguided faith, and rytlock finally understanding his inferiority complex and the crutch he's used to overcome it at the expense of people he should've been there for. no it's not in the game it's on their website

there are official interviews with most of their voice actors discussing how they approach the character and the emotion they put into it and how they've developed over a decade

there's an alt goth version of the main sylvari theme that literally everyone swears by and it's really goddamn great but someone has to tell you where it is

don't even get me started on abaddon, one of the most important characters in their world, who isn't in the game and is barely mentioned
