ok finally....Spider-rush's new ref sheet!! I've added SO much to their character, story, and relationships since I initially made him almost 3 years ago (and my art has also improved a ton) so I felt it was necessary to finally update her ref!
I would love 2 know more lore abt ur spider and sabertooth, how did they start dating? Victor is so Victor I can't imagine him in a relationship but when I see him with ur spidersona it makes so much sense
ANON YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY THIS ASK MAKES ME ok so. i will try to condense it bc their timeline with sabretooth is honestly really long and a lot of it's already written out. Rush's got history with a LOT of people but theirs with Sabretooth is the most fleshed out (they even have a playlist that my friend put together)
ok so a lot of this is explaining how Rush operates/thinks to explain how we even GOT here lol (this gets long)
I do want to preface this by saying this ENTIRE relationship is based off the fact that Sabre from what we've seen falls in love INCREDIBLY easily. there's a whole comic of him essentially falling for a woman he just met bc she didn't immediately treat him like a freak/animal. which is the basis for his and spider-rush's relationship. she just treated him like a person when they met
to put it bluntly a LOT of their story is NSFW (which will never get posted/shown outside of allusions/jokes sorry hfldskjhf), it was the nature of their first meeting and defines a lot of their relationship and is basically how Rush wedged her way into his heart and got him to open up (which is something that Rush not only does frequently but is KNOWN for. like that's...kinda her reputation in spider-society, but they also have a better rapport w/ villains than most other spider-people because of the way he approaches said villains (and the reason he does THAT is due to his own backstory/Canon Event))
because of Rush's insistence on trying to “rehabilitate” villains, a lot of spider-man's typical rogues gallery are her friends in her dimension (for example, her roommates are the Spot, the Lizard, and her symbiote, and she's on good terms with many others) all this is why they took an interest in sabretooth at the beginning (among other reasons...man is huge and attractive and Their Type; Rush likes to flirt with danger, literally)
because of Rush's initial interest in him and the fact she didn't IMMEDIATELY treat him like an animal, Sabre sticks around and opens up out of sheer intrigue because he doesn't exactly run into people like them often. Sabretooth seems to be the type to fold the INSTANT someone shows him affection because he's so unused to it (and craves it despite what he'd tell you). He's got that sort of tragedy to him that draws ME PERSONALLY to him which is why I wanted to play around with the idea of “how would he change if he had love?”
SO YES ITS UNFORTUNATELY AN “I CAN FIX HIM” SITUATION BUT LISTEN. IT WORKS OUT OK. Rush does that a lot. almost every villain she fights she goes into it w the “i can fix them” mentality
but that sort of scenario is something I wanted to play with because Sabre is frankly an extremely tragic character and I NEED THAT MAN TO EXPERIENCE SOME COMFORT FOR ONCE. It's something I find fascinating with he and Wolverine being foils for each other. I firmly believe Wolverine would've ended up in the same place as Sabretooth if Charles Xavier hadn't found him. the ways the trajectory of someone's life can DRASTICALLY change based on whether or not they're surrounded by love and a support system is one of my favorite topics to explore in writing
So Sabre caught feelings for Rush pretty early on in knowing him just because he treated him like a person. Rush caught feelings for him too but much slower, and it's not something she recognized at first because at that point in time they're not used to identifying feelings like that. They haven't been in an actual committed relationship since high school and ever since then it's been flings and situationships and Rush not examining their feelings too closely (if they did examine them they'd realize they're polyamorous...which they DO come to that conclusion EVENTUALLY, but it takes a while)
so it takes them a WHILE to actually get to the “dating” part, since for the longest time neither of them really put a label on it. both Sabre and Rush are the type of people who are afraid to directly acknowledge a good thing in case acknowledging it somehow makes it more likely for that thing to crash and burn (which has happened to both of them way too often, they've both been burned before by life, although Sabretooth DEFINITELY moreso than Rush) so for the longest time they didn't really think about it too hard until inevitably it could no longer be ignored
there's more I could write about how Rush is basically ONLY comfortable 'dating' other superpowered people and/or mutants because trying to maintain relationships with 'normal people' is too difficult and has ended badly every time for both them and the other person, or how Sabre is both comforted and terrified at the fact that Rush HAS powers and is a 'hero'...on one hand it means they can hold their own in a fight, but on the other hand it also means they're putting themselves in harm's way unnecessarily (at least it seems unnecessary to Sabre, who has lost so many loves to just Mortality) but I feel like I've already rambled on for so long LMAO

had to deal with MULTIPLE people like this and it has ONLY ever been from this one fandom. i have literally never run into this problem with ANY other fandom. it's soured my love for the thing so gd much it sucks
