Suitcase Dioramas // A House of Wonders
Sword Illustrations by Ma-Ko (2018-21)
What with bucket hats, bare midriffs, and flared jeans having been resurrected by some irresponsible necromancer with frosted tips, I figure there’s no better time to resurrect some of my favorite Y2K fonts. I typically only see the same three or four pop up in discussions on the subject, so maybe this will be helpful to nostalgic designers. Click though for links.

Golly! That post sure was popular. I’m happy to share some more.
Astro (2004, T26, Commercial) Crystopia (2000, BrainReactor, Commercial) Crystopian (1998, About Type Foundry, Commercial) LVDC Fool 22 (2003, Lovedesign Co., Freeware) Frigate (2001, Apostrophic Lab, Freeware) Neutronica (2000, BrainReactor, Commercial) Pornomania (2000, BrainReactor, Commercial) Proton (1995, T26, Commercial) Rephlex (1998, Lineto, Commercial) Solar2000 (1998, Cyclone Graphix, Unknown)
How does this have so many notes?
LVDC Cobra 4 (2000, Lovedesign Co., Freeware) Contour (1992, Device, Commercial) FUTU (2002, Fenotype, Freeware) Intergalactic (2000, BrainReactor, Commercial) Omicron (1997, Beyond Design, Freeware) Photonica (2002, Liew Keng Huat, Freeware) SF Quartzite (1999, ShyFoundry, Freeware) Republika (2000, Apostrophic Lab, Freeware) Unite (1997, Image Club, Commercial) Warzone (1999, Glitch, Freeware) Yagiza (2001, B-Rain, Freeware)
Honorable mention to Yeoman Jack, an excellent free modern face by Iconian that looks more like it’s from the early 2000s than many of their actually 20 year old fonts. I tried to stick to fonts that I was pretty sure were not based on an existing typeface. I only left out Typodermic because Ray Larabie’s work is already so popular and well known, but Neuropol is obviously a classic. Check out his stuff if you’re nor familiar.
Behind the scenes drama with Invader Zim
I made these a couple years ago, so I thought I’d share a few here
If I remember correctly, they tried to fix it twice and he kept coming back bigger. My favorite outtake, the “ha ha ha ha” cracks me up everytime

Amazing work from @mimles on insta
This is a theater stage for a play
no thats a boss battle
This is the Bregenzer Festspiele opera house, and it’s worth noting that this is not a one-off. Every single one of their productions looks like a boss battle and/or smash bros stage
These are all horrifying. Thanks for sharing
Fuck cottagecore, I want 80s fantasy film core. The sky is a strange hazy amber color, the foliage is purple, and everything is covered in an obscene amount of glitter. There are muppets and/or Hensonian creatures everywhere. Tim Curry is probably there. Everyone is dressed like they're going to a renaissance festival. There are wild chickens running around underfoot. I am the town bookseller, which basically means my shop is filled to the brim with dusty, leatherbound books that I will either sell or potentially give away to you, if you express sufficient interest in them. You read these books and then have magical coming-of-age adventures and save the world. You try to bring the books back later but I tell you to keep them. There are unicorns and fairies and goblins and giants and other feral magical creatures without names who want to eat you. Be safe out there.
Reality is surrealism. (pixiv)
hey if you’re in the U.S. and use food stamps or know somebody who does i found this online cookbook that has recipes for eating well on approximately $4/day :o)
I don’t have food stamps but I need to know how to eat well for $4/day. Thank you for this.
I love this cookbook!
Tips and tricks on how to survive being working class.
I’ve seen this kind of thing before and a lot of them are full of random weird shit you’d never make…because of time constraints or like, it just sounds super gross.
But this one had a whole section that’s just “Things on Toast”. Another that was all about putting crap in your oatmeal to make it better. Those are fairly pedestrian and don’t take forever.
I haven’t looked through the whole thing yet but so far it’s actually pretty practical. Also if you’re broke like me and don’t know how to make Dal, you should get on that.
I also liked that there’s this at the beginning:
This book isn’t challenging you to live on so little; it’s a resource in case that’s your reality. In May 2014, there were 46 million Americans on food stamps. Untold millions more—in particular, retirees and students—live under similar constraints.
Been there. Done that. Advice on this art is always welcome.
The link above seems to be broken; here’s one that still works.
Holy crap some of these recipes look delicious
you've heard of "the ubiquity of this popular thing irritates me so I've decided to hate it out of spite"
now get ready for "people i find joyless and insufferable hate this thing so I've decided to like it out of spite"
