A MINI RANT ABOUT THE PRINCESS MOMENT:
Okay, I’m calling that a rant but it’s not really, because for the most part I’m very happy to see almost all the princesses in one same moment! They look super cute in 3d and all of that. But there’s something that’s been bothering me a little bit:
THE MESSAGE IS TOO ON THE NOSE!
We got it, they’re trying to push a certain agenda and yadda yadda, and it could’ve worked -- but it doesn’t! By doing that, I feel like the personalities of the princesses have been erased, not to mention, it’s really out of character by time.
Can you see that picture? None of the princesses seen above would do such a thing. Seriously? They’re threatening a goddamn CHILD for appearing in front of them? Cinderella wouldn’t break her shoe, it has value to her in the movie, and she’s very kind hearted like most princesses. POCAHONTAS WHY? I think they could’ve made her a little darker, but maybe that’s just me. But congratulation on missing the point of her message. Pocahontas doesn’t want to be seen as a SAVAGE! When the dumbasses came to claim her soils in the movie, she decided to show the beauty of her place and tried to reason with John Smith instead of attacking him like her people (I’ll always be refering to the disney movies obviously and not the historical stories or original stories they are from).
I can’t see any of the girls being so harsh in front of a kid. Even Mulan and Jasmine, who have the most attitude wouldn’t do that. I get they’re trying to go with the ‘we’re princesses but we don’t need no man’, but here it’s just makes me roll my eyes!
KINDESS IS A POWER AND NOT ALL THE PRINCESSES WERE SAVED BY A PRINCE:
Following this moment we have the dialogue between Vanellope and the princesses. You wanna know something? Not all princesses were saved by a prince. Not only that, but it’s almost like the directors assume that if they aren’t pulling out a gun and being major cunts, then they’re not being very brave or something. It doesn’t have to be like that.
Cinderella: She’s probably, along with sleeping beauty and snow white, the most gentle among the princesses. Also apparently the most cliché. But Cinderella wasn’t saved by the prince, she was saved by her fellow mice crew, and she had to undergo the mistreatment of her cunty sisters and step mother. To me, this is brave, this demands a lot of power to keep on dreaming and smiling despite being treated like shit.
Mulan: She saved China, yo.
Lil Mermaid: She’s the on who made her choice. It was a bad choice, but in the end she defeated the witch and happy ending. Admittedly, Eric just kind of sat there. Also, she saved his goddamn ass from drowning.
Snow white & Sleeping beauty: Perhaps the only two who had the ‘kiss the girl so she can wake up’ scene. Snow white also managed to remain kind despite her step mother trying to KILL her. Sure, she’s naive, taking an apple from a witchy grandma, but she’s just being open. So yeah, they’re both poisoned in some way and have to be kissed by some stranger. Or is it? I’m pretty sure in sleeping beauty, it has to be TRUE LOVE’S kiss. So it’s not like disney was like yup get anyone to kiss you and you good. It has to have some kinda value. Also, let’s be real, if I could like, not be DEAD, I’d let a rat kiss me for all I care.
Rapunzel & Belle going ‘were you enslaved or captured?’: For Rapunzel, it’s completely true. But was she directly saved by Eugene? I don’t think so. He broke into the tour and she grabbed a pan with the intent of kicking his ass (because he looked like a robber, contrary to the trailer, where it’s like a 3′0 lil girlie, I don’t think Vanellope looks like she would hurt them, y’know). It’s through dialogue and seeing how he lived that she decided to take hold of her own life. + Belle chose to stay with the beast, she wasn’t enslaved.
So there’s that. And as we’ve seen with Frozen, you can make a movie where it’s clear the princess (well queen here) won’t end up with a prince, without forcing the dialogue. It was about the bond between two sisters, the true love between siblings. Elsa told Anna she didn’t know that man (forgot this huge douche’s name) enough to marry him, but i’m sure if frozen had the same kinda dialogue as in this trailer she could’ve dissed snow white and sleeping beauty in the process.
All in all, I think it was ridiculous and they could’ve preserved each princess’s personality instead of making them look like lunatics. But I’m so happy to see all my favourite childhood princesses united!
