I just finished a two week social media cleanse. Definition of a cleanse: The process or period of time during which a person attempts to rid the body of substances regarded as toxic or unhealthy. . Physical cleanses are crucial for our body to function optimally, especially in this world where we are constantly introduced to pesticides, plastics, preservatives, air pollutants, pharmaceutical derivatives, etc. . We also need to think about cleansing ourselves periodically from contant mental stimuli that takes our minds away from living fully in the moment. I have social media accounts to connect and share inspirational anecdotes of recipes, healthy food tips, exercise ideas, and healthy lifestyle advice. Even though the intention behind my posts is to motivate others to live a healthy lifestyle and to live it to the fullest, I need to give myself breaks from my phone periodically to let my mind cleanse, and reset to fully appreciating and honoring the NOW. . When is the last time you gave yourself a mental reset from the constant stimulation of social media and digital connections that is at the tips of our fingers day in and day out? Butternut Squash, Scallop and Ginger Soup topped with fresh basil . Recipe: Roast butternut squash at 350 degrees until soft, about 30 minutes for an average sized squash. Saute 2 scallops and 2 cloves garlic until soft and translucent over medium heat, 3-4 minutes. Grate in 1 inch cube of ginger. Remove from heat and add sauteed mixture and cubes of squash to 4 cups low sodium vegetable broth. Boil with 1/2 tsp each of oregano, rosemary and thyme and 3 bay leaves. Salt to taste and boil over medium heat for 20 minutes. Remove bay leaves and blend until soup is a smooth, creamy texture. . Spinach with fresh beets, butternut squash, zucchini and turmeric root. @wholefoods has a great selection of pre-cut spiralized root vegetables for a quick and easy addition of nutritionally dense phytonutritents. Turmeric in it's whole food form is more easily attenuated by your body than in dried powdered form. I added ground black pepper to the dressing to increase absorption of the curcumin from the turmeric. The other ingredients in the dressing included tahini, olive oil, balsamic, and ground mustard seed. Sprinkle with hemp for added protein.

Royal Gorge Rafting is where it's at! Beautiful scenery through gorge and canyon with class 3/4 rapids. Just enough of an adrenaline rush while at the same time being a chill and relaxing run. . Matcha, like other green teas, contains a class of antioxidants called catechins. Matcha is high in a catechin called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is believed to have cancer-fighting effects on the body. Studies have linked matcha green tea to a variety of health benefits, like helping to prevent heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, and even encouraging weight loss. Matcha leaves are grown on green tea bushes kept under shade. The shade increases the amount of chlorophyll content in the leaves, which is what makes them bright green and full of nutrients. The leaves are picked by hand and the stems and veins are removed. The leaves are traditionally ground by granite stones into a super fine powder.
