warnings: reader and vernon are high as fuck lmao

“No.” Your voice is stern and final, but Vernon simply does not care. 

“I’m fucking buying this.” He’s only half-serious, but it’s enough to make you want to scream. His hazel eyes are filled with passion—and it angers you. The two of you are incredibly high in the middle of a Target at 10 PM, and Vernon is determined to buy a book full of Dad Jokes. You, who happens to be taking a logical approach, attempts to dissuade Vernon’s wishes. It is embarrassingly unsuccessful.

“They’re awful jokes! And it’s my fuckin’ money!” You whisper-shout, finally letting your temper get the best of you. Part of you wants to laugh to the point of tears, because, Jesus Christ, he wants a book filled with Dad Jokes really badly. Some might say too much. The other half of you is enraged, because it’s offensive that he thought you’d even consider paying for his stupid fucking book.

“Come on. We went to Target to buy things!” 

“Things we need.”

“I fuckin’ need this, Y/N. You don’t understand,” He’s biting back a shit-eating grin and making teasing eye contact, “I’m never going to shut up about this.”

“I really want you to.” You deadpan, your face expressionless. Yes, he may be obnoxiously good-looking, but he has annoyed you to the point of immunity.

“Think about it—you’ll always have a spare Dad Joke in your back pocket.” Vernon’s expression is expectant, he’s looking at you like it’s normal to want to have a surplus of Dad Jokes. 

“Vernon, if I buy that stupid, god awful book, I will lose any shred of dignity I have left.”

“Please.”

“No.” 

“P—”

“Nope. Don’t talk or I’m leaving right now and making you walk back home.”

Silence.

For Vernon, there’s only one option left. Guilt-tripping.

You continue to walk down the aisle, looking for an interesting book to read. He stays in place and stares at you longingly, with the most manipulative fucking puppy-eyes you have ever seen. You almost want to vomit from how abruptly the initial guilt hits you—that you were the cause of his poor, melancholic expression. And then, of course, you were reminded of what actually happened. The guilt turns into lividity.

“If you continue to look at me like that, I’m never gonna spark you ever again.” 

His eyes lose all sadness. They’re replaced with utter defeat, but it’s a playful kind. Ugh, it’s so annoying—you love him so much it sickens you. He’s so damn cute—it’s kind of angering. You’re mad at him for it. 

Apparently, that’s written all over your face, because Vernon pouts playfully and waddles closer to where you stand. He takes your hands in his and says, “Please don’t be mad.”

“I’m not.” You reply immediately, probably too quick. Vernon then wears a familiar shit-eating grin, but his gaze is filled with infatuation. 

“Good, because I don’t want you to be mad at me.”

“I figured.”

“It’s cause I love you!” The man shouts. Instead of getting embarrassed and upset, you simply let out a symphony of hoarse laughter. 

“You’re so loud, calm down.” You stare at him with droopy red eyes, amusement filling your brain.

“Sorry.” The funniest part is that Vernon sounds genuinely ashamed. Although that may make you laugh, a small part of you screams MY POOR BABY!

“It’s okay. I love you too.”

“Really?” He presses, still holding your hands. He gives you a gregarious smile and a light blush dusts his cheeks. Flirtatiously, he leans in close to you, never breaking eye contact. “Then buy me the book!”

You kiss him slowly, and he smiles into it confidently. You love him way too much.

Finally, you break away from the kiss and return the grin.

“Not gonna happen.” 

“I won’t accept defeat.”

“You’re gonna have to.”

And so, for the rest of the night, the book of Dad Jokes kept getting put in and taken out of your cart, and the two of you continued to playfully bicker. In the end, you bought nothing, because you forgot your wallet at home.

If Vernon continues to make you feel this way, you’re afraid you might never be able to stop loving him.

It was almost as if you were still there.

When Junhui would wake up in the morning, there were a few seconds of absolute bliss. His disoriented state had yet to be weighed down by the overbearing forces of reality. 

He always woke up faced away from your side of the bed. During the mornings when you were still there, he’d excitedly turn over and give you a sleepy grin. Those were the moments that he should’ve appreciated more. Because those were the moments that were unwillingly ripped from his grasp. 

Junhui turned over. You weren’t there. You weren’t coming back. The dead can’t come back.

His arm extended forward, his hand resting in the air, where your sleeping face would be. The filtered sunlight would shine on your figure as his hand cupped your cheek, you’d glow oh so beautifully. 

The bed was awfully cold now. Your morning warmth wasn’t there anymore. It was all gone.

You were gone.

Junhui felt trapped, his chest felt tight, he simply could not breathe. The constant ache in his heart, an ache that yearned for your return, seemed as if it would never subside. The you-shaped hole you had left in his life, the mornings when he missed you more than his hometown, the lonely nights spent drinking glasses of whiskey, it was all just too much. 

Junhui understood it all—how lonely people were lonely because there was a time when they were not. 

His eyes flickered toward the digital clock on his nightstand. He had to start getting ready for the day. Because, even if Junhui’s world seemed to fall apart when you died, the outside world was just the same. Loss is a part of life. People moved on.

And Junhui didn’t even know if he wanted to move on from you. From your bright laughter or your caring nature. But, even if he wanted to move on, he just simply didn’t know how.

a/n: i kind of...got creative with this :p thanks so much for requesting!!

summary: while crying over a failed test, an alien named jihoon learns (from a human named mingyu) how to comfort others with something called “hugs”.

warnings: none!

Jihoon’s eyes flickered to your figure, which was hunched over. You looked...stressed? Was that the word? 

And, for some reason, seeing you in pain made his chest feel heavy. Like some form of pressure was weighing down on him. He continued to blankly stare at you.

“What happened?” Your friend, Mingyu, asked worriedly. His tone was rich with emotion, something Jihoon had yet to master. He had been told many times that he was like a robot, emotionless and placid.

Those people weren’t too far off. Jihoon was...not from Planet Earth. He wasn’t biologically designed to feel emotion. So, the daily adventures that he endeavored on often came with confusing moments. How was he supposed to understand when he didn’t feel anything?

Jihoon was placed on Earth around eight months prior. His mission was to study the foreign planet, and find out how “humans” lived. The experience was unlike anything he had ever seen before and often unsettling.

“I failed this stupid fucking test. And this week has been so shitty.” You murmured. You couldn’t contain the tears from cascading down your cheeks. Jihoon started experiencing trouble breathing due to the immense pressure he felt on his chest.

“I’ll go get you some ice cream, okay?” Mingyu smiled sweetly. Normally, any woman would flutter and swoon over such a handsome man, but your eyes darted to Jihoon quickly. He stood next to the bench you were perched on, right outside of campus. The day was oddly sunny, but the tree next to the bench provided some shade. Before he knew it, Jihoon was getting dragged by Mingyu to the McDonald’s on campus.

“Why are we going to McDonald’s?” Jihoon asked monotonously.

“They have vanilla soft serves there. I brought you along because I could tell how much you were struggling.”

Jihoon gave the taller man a confused look. 

“I was? Could you please inform me on why?”

Mingyu scoffed at the older man’s odd, stoic nature. He knew there was something different about Jihoon, but he couldn’t quite place his finger on it.

You could, however.

After the two of them got you your ice cream, they started to head back to where you sat. You were still crying, oddly so.

“She’s crying, what do I do?” Jihoon fumbles.

“Go comfort her.” Mingyu retaliated, curious to see how it would play out.

“How do I do that?”

“Start with hugs.”

“With what?”

Mingyu held his face in his hands.

“Jesus Christ, what are you?”

“Human. I’m human.”

You couldn’t help but overhear that part, and you bit your tongue. Since you were a major in astronomy, you were absolutely fascinated with the universe. You came to the conclusion that Jihoon was, in fact, an alien a while ago. There was this otherworldly glow to his skin—and you happened to catch onto how keen his senses were. He wasn’t exactly good at pretending to be human, either.

“Y/N,” Mingyu began, piquing your interest, “show this man what a hug is.”

You scoffed. Your tears had already subsided, now you were thoroughly intrigued.

“Come over here.” You airily laughed. And, for some reason, Jihoon felt hot. Like he was being coated in an odd warmth. No other human being had brought out such a foreign side to the alien, so he prompted it as unwarranted and thought he should ignore it.

But it became impossible to ignore when Jihoon sat next to you on the bench, your arms wrapped around him tightly. You rested your head on his broad shoulders, making his cheeks glow red.

“This is a hug.” You whispered.

“I see.”

“Do you like it?”

Jihoon physically deflated, as if he needed to seriously contemplate your simple question. His brown eyes looked adorably stumped, as his eyebrows knitted together in an intense concentration.

“I...think so.” He honestly answered. Jihoon was not only fascinating, but adorable as well.

“Okay, then I’ll make sure to do it more often.”

Mingyu, who stood there observing you two, looked utterly baffled. How could a man be so oblivious to a woman who was clearly into him? Nevertheless, it was entertaining to watch Jihoon consistently fail at being a human being.

“That would be enjoyable.” Jihoon admitted, and you swore you could’ve seen a hint of a smile play at his lips. Surprisingly, Jihoon’s awkward hugs made you forget about the bad test grade. 

He was quite peculiar...Yet, you liked it.
