It's weird how you can go through entire days without ever being truly present. After the kidnapping, everything’s just a blur. Katie’s memory is thankfully back now, so at least she doesn't have to worry about being in a place surrounded by people she doesn’t even remember. She's also able to somewhat control her powers. Turns out atmokinesis is extremely intertwined with your emotions though, which sucks when you're pretty much a mess.

Everything has just been a lot. It’s like Hydra took something away from her that no matter how much she tries she can never get back. Every trigger, every command, is still ingrained into her. Unlearning them feels like a mountain that she’ll never be able to climb. Everyone looks at her like she’s broken, and she can’t really blame them for it, seeing as she feels broken.

She tries her best to act like her old self, even though that girl seems lightyears away from the shell she is now. Katie knows that she’s struggling and she needs help. Her coping mechanisms suck as evidenced by the fact that she's currently on the roof smoking weed even though she knows she definitely should not be doing it. But it seems better than being alone with her thoughts or seeing the pity on her family's face. She's too out of it to notice that she's not alone on the roof until the person calls her name.

Cooper had been wandering around the building, looking for something to do or someone to help. He had been brought to the team a few weeks ago to act as a therapy dog, which he had been happy with. He had his own room, and he got to help people!

He wanders up to the roof, looking for his ball after checking to make sure everyone was okay. When he was up there he saw Katie and his nose twitched at the scent of weed.

"Katie!"

“Oh hey, what are you doing here?” Katie asks as she quickly throws the joint away and turns to see him.

"I was looking for my ball" He says as he looks around, sniffling the air, "Are you okay?"

“I don’t think your ball’s here. You should look downstairs. And ya I’m fine.”

He just gives her a deadpan look and shakes his head, “we both know I can tell that’s a lie” he says as he sits beside her

“It’s not, really I’m fine. you should go back to looking for your ball.”

He looks at her and shakes his head, “nah cause you need me now” he says, his tail swishing back and forth, hitting her gently

Katie smiles softly at him as she slowly pets him.

“I really am fine, you don’t need to worry about me.”

Cooper preens at that, enjoying the pets. he shifts closer, allowing her to pet him more if it helps her ground herself or calm down

“It’s kinda my job to worry”

"Well you don't need to, I'm ok." Katie sighs as she wraps her arms around her knees and looks at the view.

“Bullshit” he says with a bit of a yip, “i can tell you are not okay, so I don’t know why you’re lying to me” his tail stops its movement, did she not trust him? Was he doing a bad job?

“I don’t want you to worry. I’ll be fine, my brains just being stupid.” Katie says honestly for the first time.

"I'm more worried when you're lying" he points out, his tail picking back up it's wagging, "I want to help, I like helping, I'm literally a therapy dog"

“I know, but that doesn’t mean you have to work all the time. It’s late and it’s the weekend so take the day off. And besides I’m fine. Definitely fine.”

He grumbles and leans against her, head butting her arms to uncross them, "I sleep whenever, you know that, so the late thing doesn't really matter"

Cooper chases after it, grabbing it in his jaw and running back to Bruce

He takes off after it, a few seconds later coming back and shaking his head wildly with a growl, the toy between his teeth

Bruce laughs lightly and ruffles his hair.

You want to go again?

He nods rapidly but doesn’t let go, his pupils were blown wide as he stares at the man

Alright kiddo, want to hand that over so I can throw it or play tug of war?

He raises one eyebrow playfully.

He doesn’t respond, but also doesn’t hand it over

Bruce grins and takes one end of the rope toy, tugging at it enough to be believable but not to rip it away.

He looks up, pupils pinpricks now
