this was like seeing a ghost. diana didn’t have many regrets, but the death of steve trevor was something she had always carried with her. always feeling like if she hadn’t been so disconnected in that moment – from the blow to her head thanks to ares’ attacks on her and  having been so deep in her shock about the truth of her parentage – she might have been able to do something more. maybe she could have changed things. coming face to face with him again, nearly a hundred years later, nearly left her speechless. taking a step forward, she held her hand out toward him as an offer for her to take a look at the phone. “you do not know your passcode?” she asked, raising a brow. “it is funny – when you brought me to england, i was the one out of my element when it came to technology. but now the roles have switched,” she chuckled softly. in her mind, she couldn’t stop wondering how he was here when she had witnessed the plane explode all those years ago, with him inside, but wondered if it was the right time.

he heard her before he saw her, and though it had been many years on earth, for steve it was as if he merely blinked and suddenly a hundred years had passed him by. so it took him all of two seconds to recognize her voice and he nearly dropped the infernal device in his haste to turn towards her. “my--wha...?” steve glanced between the phone and the only person who could pick his face out of a line-up, and shock his head. “who gives a damn about the phone?? diana, you’re still--? but, of course, with you being...” he cleared his throat. “i thought you would have gone back to themyscira.” he hadn’t even thought to consider what he would say to her should their paths cross again but that was not a great start. “yeah, it’s hilarious,” he deadpanned, though he couldn’t entirely stop a smile from creeping in at the corners of his mouth. “you know, you seem very unconcerned by the fact that i’m not dead. and i think i’m fittingly amazed that you look just as beau--that you haven’t changed at all.”

it probably wasn’t every day that someone woke up from a century-long sleep -- if that’s what it could be called. so, for that reason, he didn’t know who exactly he was supposed to approach about his peculiar, if not entirely unbelievable, predicament. everyone he had once known was long dead by now, leaving steve alone to adjust to a new world. he’d found the metal rectangle on his bedside table, in an apartment he surely wasn’t paying for, and now he was standing on the street trying to make the thing work. he followed the instructions to map his facial features easily enough, but now the damn contraption wouldn’t unlock. “open!” he commanded, only to be told he now needed to enter some sort of code. “how many steps should there be to make a simple phone call??” he asked, a little too loudly for such a public area. / @imhqstarters

     it  was  a  surprise  to  find  someone  as  lost  as  she  was  ―  something  jean  couldn’t  hide.  she  blinked  slowly,  for  a  second  even  being  more  unresponsive  than  before,  while  dealing  with  the  stranger.  in  the  midst  of  a  dimension  full  of  villains  &  heroes,  it  was  hard  to  find  someone  who’d  chose  to  run  to  the  opposite  side  of  a  fight;  although  the  mutant  was  the  perfect  representation  of  that.  jean,  however,  didn’t  have  much  time  to  think  about  it  ―  or  even  offer  an  appropriate  answer  to  the  man  before  a  sentinel  threw  itself  at  them.     “  alright,  run  it  is!  „     the  young  one  said,  while  grabbing  the  stranger’s  arm  and  dragging  him  with  her.     “  do  you  have  any  kind  of  power?  it  could  be  quite  useful  right  now!  „     

the moment he suggested the coward’s way out, he started to second guess himself. she, certainly, shouldn’t be looking for ways to fight that thing, but he was conflicted on his own course of action. perhaps it was foolish to head straight towards another death when he had just returned to this world, it just seemed like doing anything else was a waste of his second chance. it didn’t matter what he wanted, though, as the woman made the decision for him by taking his advice and pulling him along for the ride. “power?? i don’t think the army is really behind me anymore.” after a moment, he considered she might mean power in the way he associated exclusively with diana. “i’m...just human, if that’s what you’re asking.”

     with  shaking  hands,  jean  watched  ―  motionless  in  front  of  the  threat,  as  if  someone  had  stolen  all  of  her  reaction  skills.  her  heart  pounded  against  her  chest,  charged  with  fear  of  being  alone;  and  of  not  being  enough  that  way,  or  qualified  enough  to  use  her  powers  ―  or  to  even  control  it.  bad  memories  would  rule  her  mind  as  a  whole,  keeping  jean  paralyzed  &  lost.  if  professor  x  were  there,  maybe  things  would  be  easier.  maybe  he  would  guide  her  to  control  her  abilities,  to  handle  the  phoenix  within  her,  as  he  had  before.  but  he  wasn’t  there.  charles  xavier  was  dead,  just  as  everyone  would  probably  be  at  the  end  of  that  night.     “  i  don’t  know  what  to  do.  „      the  young  mutant  said,  blue  hues  turning  to  the  person  next  to  her,  in  an  almost  unconscious  attempt  to  find  the  best  way  to  act.     “  what  should  i  do?  „      

this was not the reception steve had been anticipating...not that he had much time to anticipate anything. he was still trying to understand the mechanics of modern day vehicles and this was unlike anything he had ever seen in his relatively brief lifetime. his natural impulse was to help, somehow, but he was smart enough to know he was way out of his depth. “that makes two of us,” he said, mostly to himself. steve gave her an incredulous look. “i think running in the opposite direction is a pretty trustworthy option, in cases like this.”

ABOUT

A brief bio: I have a long-winded explanation about how he’s alive but we don’t have the TIME

Steve was raised in a fairly traditional, boring family. He had no real aspirations growing up and he was okay in school but nothing really caught his interest and he didn’t excel at one thing in particular. Which is how he found his way into the United States Army Air Service. It turned out that he felt most comfortable in a cockpit and learned with ease how to pilot a plane and evade attacks with counter striking. It was after becoming a pilot that he fell into the role of spy. His looks and his demeanor made him a natural fit but he was also proficient at lying and had a good memory for details and facts that would be necessary to assume the role of somebody else. And his accents are like...fine.

Never in a million years did he expect to crash land into the sea, waking up on an island of Amazons but he always seemed to fall into good circumstances. He always, vaguely, liked to think himself heroic but he never truly felt like one until he flew his plane straight up into the sky and blew himself up, all in the name of humanity. Steve was, and still is, fairly jaded. He knows that humans are flawed beyond redemption (wait until he sees TikTok) but he is still willing to lose his own life to see that they get the chance to do good things.

Long ass story short, I took some inspiration from the comics and pretty much explain Steve’s existence now by saying that Aphrodite took a liking to Steve and his selflessness, and felt sorrow upon hearing her sister’s screams when he died, and saved him before he actually died and kept him safe in Olympus, in an unconscious state. And something about this multiverse mess brought him back down to Earth and he is big confused.

like, I don’t personally want to objectify him, but he does it to himself

though he is actually very stoic and inwardly embarrassed when complimented about his appearance

mostly I think he talks a big game and tries to look as confident as possible because he’s plagued by constant self-doubt about his decisions

will actually probably only make a confession of love when death is eminent
