Fictober Prompt 31: “Pumpkins are supposed to be orange!”
A florescent pumpkin flew through the door, just missing Lin’s head. She spun back around to see her two best friends giggling at the kitchen island. Knives and wands seemed to be flying around.
“Well, I see someone started without me,” she chuckled.
“You are late, you know,” Neha danced from foot to foot.
“Someone wanted me to bring more ice cream, I’m blameless,” Lin plopped the mentioned goods on the island.
“Oooh, cookie dough, you’re forgiven.” Sandra grabbed the spoons from a drawer.
The three of them dove into the gallon of ice cream amidst the pumpkin scrap laden counter. Someone hit the remote for music, and suddenly they were dancing around gleefully with a bottle of wine.
"You know, we should actually do the pumpkins, pretend to be productive," Lin slurred a little a half hour later.
"Done and done." Neha picked up her wand from the counter and gave it a wave.
The three fell giggling as the pumpkins carved themselves into funny faces and cats. The pumpkins landed on the counter and slowly started to shift colors from their stately orange to screaming green.
"Hey Neha, pumpkins are supposed to be orange!" Lin commented in a fit of giggles.
"Do you think someone will notice?" Neha hiccupped.
"Probably will, those mortals are pretty observant," Sandra said.
"Fine, presto, nice boring pumpkins." Neha huffed before taking another sip from the wine bottle.
