making their way across rocky terrain, the dusty red earth of the planet rose with every step they took. it billowed around their boots before settling back onto the ground like a blanket as if it hadnât been disturbed just seconds before. everything seemed unfortunately quiet as they traveled, but rex supposed that made sense â the battlefield seemed to be miles away from here now, the 501st and 212th just barely specks on an infinite horizon as they battled against an almost never-ending separatist battalion, the echoes of blasters and screaming commands having faded in the distance. in all honesty, the captain wished he could be there to support his brothers; however, he and general kenobi had been tasked with finding general skywalker. the missing jedi had decided he would try and find a way around, so as to get an advantage on the separatists, but he hadnât come back in a while and it had concerned them. so, with a brief meeting between some of the commanding officers, the troops were left with ahsoka, allowing general kenobi and the clone captain to begin their search.Â
with a quiet sigh, rex glanced over at obi-wan. âwhere do you suppose general skywalker wandered off to, sir?â given the terrain they were traveling, it really couldnât have been far; but, who knows - jedi tended to be capable of things that seemed to be impossible.Â

âat least let me clean the wound!â // Cody
rex grimaced, red hot pain shooting through his body like a flame and leaving him reeling in anguish. his body was leaned against a crate, helmet off as he looked down at the charred burn on his leg. those damned clankers! when he could get back on his feet, heâd show them hell.Â
the concern from his fellow officer and brother, cody, reached his ears but he refused. âwhat? no... iâm fine -â he attempted to stagger back to his feet, but the pain made him wobble.Â
âletâs just get back in and finish the job! we can worry about my injury later.â

ââŠâ Where was her people. It was as if the captain didnât notice, the fool.
The togrutaâs heart-shaped eyes welled up with tears; tears of anger, betrayal, hate⊠fear. All of these emotions that bottled up inside her finally spilled out. Emotions that have been held in for seven years had finally burst in front of the clone.
Sala looked over and pointed out towards the empty desert. Many feet away, he could see a small graveyard, corpses of hundreds sloppily buried. Gravestones were made from wooden signs, the writing sloppy, and the names were written with âNana Chikiâ or âUncle Junoâ.
The two graves that stuck out the most, were âMama and Papaâ. Their graves were scattered with flowers and old toys, and looked as if the flowers were replaced, fresh. It even had a picture of three togrutas. A younger Sala, and the two that were buried. Under the picture held the caption âHappy Familyâ in sloppy handwriting.
This whole graveyard looked as if a child had done this jobâŠ
If only the captain knew.
âYouâre seven years too late.â
âIâm the last of them.â
they were too late?Â
it was only as he finally took in the scene before him, noting the many countless make-shift headstones that marked what seemed to be a mass grave, did he understand what she meant. his eyes widened and he couldnât help the painful clenching in his chest. normally, rex wasnât one to lose his composure; however, the pure pain that sounded in her voice made him waver.Â
he understood what it was like to lose family (the deaths of his brothers more than enough to relate with her), but from the looks of it, sheâd been all alone for who knows how long. rex frowned deeply behind the cover of his helmet, unsure of what to say to the lonesome togruta. at that moment, he wished one of the jedi had accompanied them - they would have known what to say.
âiâm... so sorry,â rex kept his distance from the togruta, not wanting to upset her further. âbut even if it is only you, youâre still apart of our mission.â he paused, the silence ringing in his ears. âit might not be what you want to hear, but we are tasked with escorting you to safety.â
msterploâ:
Ploâs Master taught him not to be too impulsive, reckless, and the meaning of every life. He missed his Master greatly, but everyone had their time. Plo knew that his would come. When? That was the mystery to life. Live it, love it, and donât waste it.Â
The Jedi Master made his way to the dinning area, once there, he headed to the kitchen. Plo was quick to find what he needed to make some tea. Hopefully, the taste and smell would calm them both. He would have to drink his own slowly, and make sure the temperature of his own tea was hot enough. Plo could only have his mask off for a limited time.
Upon his question, he sighed heavily, â How can I think of you all are just soldiers? â he turned to face him, clawed hand held the teacups with care, â You all are more than that. How can I think of you all as objects when you breathe the same air we do? Laugh, feel anger, fight, and have your own thoughts? You are a living being, Captain Rex. You and the rest of the men. â
of course they were living beings â they were of hot flesh and bone, completely unlike the separatist clankers built of hard wiring and code, who were wrought of cold, unfeeling steel. rex gave a quiet sigh, though not of annoyance. âyeah, i suppose youâre right, general.â he felt his arms sag at his sides and the rigid posture that he was used to loosened.Â
in the calming presence of the jedi, it was hard not to relax â regardless of the mannerisms drilled into his head since he came out of his growth tube. âsorry to be such a downer, sir.â he apologized curtly, eyes glancing elsewhere. âitâs just in the years since i was born, iâve only ever been told i was a soldier - same with all my brothers. we just donât know much else besides that.âÂ
im gonna scream, i feel compelled to write like,, sith âsoka but i havenât even wrote anything yet on my ahsoka in general lkdgsm

@capinrexâ
âI donât know what folk brought you here, but I want you out. I had too many of your kind fuck me over; Iâm not dealing with that again, you hear!?â
the obvious rage laced in the tone of the pinkish togruta did little to deter the captain. as a clone, you had to be ready for stressful situations â including being yelled at, even if you didnât rightfully deserve to be. however, given the operation at hand, he could understand her stress.Â
âi donât know who youâve been dealing with,â he started almost tentatively, unsure of how sheâd react to him. âbut weâre here on a rescue mission, and given our intel, you and your people are the ones weâre here for.â as he said that, glancing around, he came to a realization. she was the only one â any scans for life other than her and his men came up negative. his brows furrowed behind his helmet.
âwhere are your people?âÂ
msterploâ:
The clones were controversial, but in Ploâs mind, they were living humans. No matter what. They were not things. They were not slaves. He would allow clones to leave his army if they so wanted to. To be programmed into one thing only did not sit well with Plo, and sadly he was in charge of them to use them that way. He would rather let his troopers have a mind, let them think, let them feel how they want.
Most of the time, they just thought Plo was creepy. It had to deal with his eye coverings and mask.
Feeling a lightness around Rex in the Force made Plo feel more at ease, â I shall try my best, Rex, â he started, clawed hands behind his back, â You and your men have been through too much. Itâs time you get that relaxation you rightly deserve. â
With that in mind, the Jedi Master started his path towards dinning area to make the two of them a cup of tea.
rex followed the general at a respectful distance. something about plo koon and his radiating compassion reminded him a lot of the young togruta girl that had found her way as a supporting commander in his battalion. the comparison made him grin to himself â while plo koon was calm and patient, his commander was headstrong and passionate (much like her master); however, their willingness to see the clones as people were almost the same.
thinking about it, rex couldnât help but ponder why they had begun to see them as anything more than the soldiers they were bred to be anyways. overall, he knew it it led to better morale and compliance, but, it was still something he found drifting into his thoughts regardless.Â
âyâknow, i have to wonder,â rex started after a moment of brief silence. âbut, why do you care... wouldnât it be simpler to think of as the soldiers we are?â
âlisten, i know you donât want to, but.. maybe you should rest for a while. youâre not going to get anywhere like this.â from fives ?
finding himself hunched over behind the cover of a disabled tank, he gritted his teeth in pain â the strain of keeping himself steady showing in the way that he stumbled forward. of all the times that rex had found himself in an unlucky situation, this had to be one of them? in the midst of a rather harrowing battle against a separatist battalion, one of those damned clankers had been able to hit their mark, albeit not very well. the blast had scorched his armor and bled through to his blacks, effectively burning and wounding the captain.Â
upon hearing the concerned voice of fives, he glanced over at the arc trooper, his mouth opening to reply before another stinging pain shot through his body, causing him to seethe in pain. âwe have a mission to do, fives. thereâs no time for me to rest.âÂ

msterploâ:
â No, â he said, eyeing him carefully, â I have all the time in the world for a living being. You are a man. Do not think of yourself so lowly, Rex. You and your men are just that. Men. You have your own thoughts, do you not? You must remember this. â
Plo then turned on his heel, clawed hands behind his back, â We shall have our refreshments. We donât have to make tea, of course. Whatever you would like, â his tone light and soft, â I would like to ease your mind, captain. Perhaps, then you can share the same ease to your men? â
of all the jedi that rex had met, he had been the most persistent to want to acknowledge them (aka clones) as people. most other people tended to use them as pawns â things to use in the ever flaming, chess-like war â as recently displayed by general krell. but master plo, he cared.
a smile tugged on the cloneâs lips as the jedi master turned away from him. âah, donât worry about it,â he gave an almost dismissive wave of his hand. âtea is fine with me... though, if you can ease my mind, iâll consider that a complete miracle, sir.âÂ

âThereâs blood everywhereâŠâ Codyâs voice cracked as he pulled his helmet off, the smell of blood filling his nose and making him gag. âThereâs just so much blood, Rex.â He covers his nose with his hand as he tries to breath through his mouth. âWhat the kriff do you think happened here?â He questions, boots sliding slightly in the blood as he shifts a bit on his feet.
rex scrunched his face up from behind the cover of his helmet in disgust, noting the poignant smell that cody had been complaining about. as soldiers, they were used to blood â however, the amount that lay spilled below their feet in drying puddles was more than theyâd seen for awhile. âi donât know...â he looked âround the area they stood, attempting to see what could have caused this. the only thing he could see, unfortunately, was the corpses of his brothers - their bodies lying limp across the floor, white armor stained with sanguine red.        âwhatever did this might still be here, so it might not be a good idea to stick around.â
[snipstofulcrum] â..iâm here if you need anything, okay?â
rex glanced up, eyes hidden behind the protection of a nicked helmet now focused on the young togruta girl that stood across from him. a small, appreciative smile pulled at his lips, though he knew she couldnât see it. he could always count on his commander. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ââyâknow,ââ he laughed a little as he thought about her words. ââas a soldier, i think iâm supposed to be helping you. not the other way âround.ââ
