Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you our winner of the 60th annual Hunger Games: Morrissey Harper of District 12!
Oh geez, sorry guys. I forgot to post one last thing. Not on Eustacia's account, but the main - for our winner Morrissey (Emma)
It's comin' at you in 3...2...1...
The Fallen: Three Final Deaths of the 60th Annual Hunger Games
Finale - Part III
Molly turned to face Morrissey, her jaw set. Her hand instinctively swept over her back, hitting a hard object. Without taking her eyes off her opponent, she grabbed it and pulled it out of her skin. She knew what it was without having to look; when Kai had forced her to the ground, she had landed on his blowgun dart. It wasn’t in deep, but she knew a fair amount of poison would have already made its way into her bloodstream. This had to be quick.
"You asked me to kill you once before, Morrissey. I didn’t think I could, so I didn’t. And now… you don’t want that anymore, and… well… I’m sorry. Because I didn’t think… I never thought it would come down to the two of us." Molly stepped forward, her lips pursed.
Morrissey made the next move, walking slowly towards the girl who was previously his ally.
"No. Kill me, Molly. You can win." Morrissey’s eyes filled with remorse, and he dropped to his knees. Tears rested in the corners of his eyes, and a soft smile formed, reassuring Molly.
Molly had been taken by surprise. She’d never thought it would be this easy, and he was just giving it up to her. Her mind cast back to when they’d pulled the stunt with the mistletoe berries, and her gut tightened with guilt. She regretted her actions, as whilst Morrissey was distracted, she’d left crushed leaves and berries from the plant soaking in his water bottle. Soon enough, he’d be experiencing the same pain felt by Kai. Molly took a knife, and held it to Morrissey’s neck.
"Are you ready?" she asked, and Morrissey nodded in response.
"I’m ready."
"One, two, thre-" at the last minute, Morrissey leapt away, leaving nothing more than a shallow gash down his chest from the knife. In doing so, he’d shifted, slamming his elbow into Molly’s face, causing her to fall to the ground again. The sick feeling growing inside Morrissey’s stomach, he put down to the guilt of having betrayed his opponent, unaware of Molly’s stunt with the mistletoe. He managed to choke back the sickness. Molly quickly rolled away and forced herself to her feet. She could feel the effects of the poison beginning, her vision blurring ever so slightly in the corners of her eyes.
"Ready to go?!" Molly laughed, almost impressed by Morrissey’s acting.
"Oh, I am," Morrissey replied, raising his knife into the air. Before he could bring it down, Molly had darted over to him, sinking her knife into his hip. He howled in the blinding pain, feeling fire rush through his veins. Despite being on the edge of death, he’d never felt more alive.
Morrissey staggered back, letting his arm fall limp before lunging forward, the blade of his knife swinging to her temple. His first swing missed, but the second struck and he could feel as it tore through layers of clothing and finally burst through her skin, slicing flesh. Blood briefly sprayed out of the gash before subsiding. Again Molly tried to sink her blade into her opponent’s skin, but Morrissey avoided the attack, grinning at the contrast of red on her pale, white skin. Distracted by the thought, Molly grasped the opportunity and sank her knife through his arm, down onto his collarbone, and across his torso. The mistletoe finally took effect and whilst screaming with pain, he erupted vomit over the arena floor too. He stepped back, taking in a long breath of the cold air, letting it revitalize his body, before launching himself at her in revenge, a battle cry echoing around the otherwise empty air of the arena, and dug his knife into Molly’s shoulder, slicing her all the way to her hip. He laughed manically and lunged again, but his boot slipped and he tumbled to the ground. A sickening crack shot out from deep inside his leg, and he howled in pain once again.
Standing over him, Molly smirked. She had the advantage once again. She stumbled over to the injured boy panting lightly on the ground, and lowered herself over him.
“Morrissey," she said calmly. Morrissey’s vision was distant, his hand fumbling to find Molly’s, pulling her close when it did so. The warmth of her embrace was all her needed, a warmth so distant yet so familiar. He buried his face in the crook of her shoulder as tears began to fall from his blue eyes. He tried to speak, but he was bleeding out of his hip wound as much as Molly was from her torso wound.
"I’m…" Morrissey spoke quietly, his words full of pain, “I’m sorry, Molly." Molly’s shoulders tensed, realizing what was happening, but it was too late. Morrissey had brought his knife up to her neck, his other hand holding her body in place. She swallowed nervously, her eyes jolting around trying to figure out an escape. Almost immediately, Morrissey dragged his knife across her throat, forcing apart the skin as Molly screamed loudly. He continued to hold her in place despite her struggles, his eyes never leaving hers. He sliced again and again, blood spraying over his face, over the ground. Molly’s screams were muffled now, lost in the cascade of blood, her body barely managing to squirm as the red liquid poured from her neck. Finally, the screaming stopped, and her head left a trail of blood on the ground as it rolled away from her body.
A cannon fired, but Morrissey Harper did not hear it. Nor did he see as the silver hovercraft gently soared overhead. The only thing his eyes could see was the pain in those of his final kill. The pleading, the agony, the sorrow, and, he hoped, the forgiveness. Like an old friend, darkness outreached his hand and he took it, falling into the soft embrace of unconsciousness.
Finale - Part II
Against her better judgement, Molly had taken off through the trees in the direction of where Caine and Kai had disappeared. She didn’t know whether Morrissey was following her or not, but she didn’t think so. Her feet pounded the ground, one after the other, on and on through the trees until she saw Kai’s darkened outline. Having heard her footsteps, Kai turned around with his blowgun held to his lips, and shot a dart in her direction. Molly threw herself to the floor, avoiding the flying object, before digging her toes into the ground and thrusting herself forwards towards Kai. Kai was fast, stepping aside, but Molly reacted quickly managing to grab onto his blow gun and pull his hand towards her, sinking her teeth into the flesh. She almost felt guilty; they had been allies and he had helped her. Now she was tasting his blood. She snapped away from this train of thought as Kai’s foot came up and booted her in the stomach. It was a strong kick, sending pain though her body as she flew back, keeping hold of his blow gun. Her head slammed hard into the floor as she landed, and Kai jumped on top of her quickly. He raised his arm, but it wasn’t his fist that landed on her. Vomit erupted out of Kai’s mouth, covering Molly in the acidic substance. The mistletoe had kicked in. Twice, three times more it dripped from his mouth until he was dry retching. Wiping the vomit away from her eyes, Molly reached up and scratched down the side of Kai’s face, the skin of his cheek building up under her fingernails as she did so. He punched her in the face, before pinning down her arms with his knees. He pulled up, resting on his haunches and out of her reach, but she twisted, pulling her body through his legs and kicking him in the stomach to escape.
Molly rolled away and stood, breathing hard. Unhitching her knife, she threw herself forward a second time and caught the blade in his gaping mouth, dragging it back as she jumped by. The corner of his mouth now relocated another few inches closer to his ear, he screamed, his hand coming up to his now forced half-smile. Kai pounced forward with renewed energy, growling viciously, but she dodged his fumbling movements. A final time, he tried to pounce at her, but she grabbed on and spun around, pushing him backwards away from her, and right over the edge of the arena. His screams echoed as he fell, broken only by the distant cannon.
"You’ve got something in your back." Molly spun around to see where the voice was coming from, and sure enough Morrissey was standing back by the treeline. “Looks like it’s just us now," he said, his eyes narrowing and mouth forming a sadistic grin.
Finale - Part I
As the shaking of the ground and roaring of destruction subsided, Molly and Morrissey paused, taking a moment to catch their breath. They were surrounded by thick trees but could see a clearing up ahead, and instinctively knew the reason for the arena crumbling away again; it was the finale. It was time to die.
Morrissey looked around, the leaves of the trees casting scattered shadows across the dark ground, which danced as the wind disturbed them. His eyes settled on one thing in particular, though. Mistletoe. He smiled, remembering what he’d been told about it. How with a swallow of only one of the plant’s white berries, the one who consumed it would be suffering from severe gastrointestinal issues for a good while. He looked at Molly, a plan already forming in his head. Molly grinned back.
"Geez, Molly, I’m feeling awfully hungry now," he said loudly, knowing his mentor would be listening. Sure enough, within minutes a silver parachute was floating gently to the ground. He opened it and took a deep breath; the lamb stew smelled delicious. “We’ll crush the berries and leaves into the food," Morrissey explained, noticing Molly’s confusion - after all, this wasn’t exactly the time for a formal meal. “They’ll love a bit of a present - along with a bit of added flavor." He winked at Molly, who laughed back before scaling a tree and pulling down handfulls of the berries and leaves. It was a shame to leave such a good meal to their opponents, but if it worked it would certainly be worth missing out. There would be more when they arrived back in the Capitol, of course.
Morrissey paused to take out the map he had stolen from Boyka, and easily located the pair’s opponents. They weren’t far away, and they decided it was best to move. Closing the parachute again and tucking it away, they moved on quickly into the thicker trees, scaling one of the tall ones.
Down below, Kai and Caine were planning their attacks. Of course, the true details they knew better than to share with one another. Suddenly, Caine put his hand out to stop Kai, hearing the familiar sound of a parachute. Molly had thrown it from the top of her tree, but concealed by branches, Caine beamed, thanking his mentor for sending him whatever was inside. It fell to the ground, and Caine opened it with ease, grinning as the rich smell of the stew overcame him.
"No note with it?" Kai asked, warily. He knew it was unusual to get a parachute this late in the games, especially when Caine hadn’t asked for one, but the yearning of his stomach for the sweet food was too much to ignore. The pair finished off the meal within minutes, as Morrissey and Molly smiled at each other from above. They waited there until the pair below had moved on before climbing down, walking some distance through around the tree line before heading to the clearing. They soon decided to split up, if only because it might take away the task of having to kill one another. A respectful, mutual nod was exchanged between the two as they parted, nothing more, as all of a sudden, they were enemies.
It didn’t take long before Kai noticed the movement through the trees. Across the small stretch of grass, tributes were emerging from the trees. First Molly, and then Morrissey some distance away. He frowned, remembering how he’d helped Molly when she needed it. It now seemed she had taken refuge with the district twelve boy. He nudged Caine and motioned to them, before moving slowly towards the open space. They knew their distant opponents wouldn’t have seen them yet, but were cautious nonetheless.
It was Caine who made the first move, bursting out of the trees in a sprint. Ahead of him, Morrissey and Molly braced themselves, not knowing which one of them he was running for. Behind him, Kai was raising his blowgun to his lips.
"It was fun while it lasted, Caine." He loaded his blow gun and took careful aim, “but only one of us can make it out of here." With great power, he forced the dart out of the blowgun, but it sailed over Caine’s shoulder. Caine paused, confused. The dart had stuck into the ground a short distance in front of him, and he knew exactly where it had come from. He turned, fire in his eyes. He had trusted Kai, and he had tried to betray him. Caine knew who his first kill today was going to be. Caine charged back in the direction he had just come, axes at the ready. Across the clearing, Morrissey and Molly exchanged a confused look, watching what was going on and trying to figure out how it could help them.
Caine reached Kai quickly, swinging his axe heavily and knocking Kai to the ground. It had taken him by surprise, and as he struggled to reload and aim his blowgun, Caine swung both of his axes hard downwards. Kai rolled along the floor, avoiding the crashing blades and forcing himself to his feet. He turned and ran through the trees towards the edge of the arena, now a tall cliff with jagged rocks lining the bottom of the canyon for as far as his eyes could see. He loaded his blowgun and gripped it tightly, readying himself for the brute strength of his district seven opponent. Caine swung both axes again, and though Kai tried once more to step out of the way, one of the axes sunk deep into his leg. He screamed in pain, looking down to see a large chunk of flesh hanging loosely from his thigh. Blood covered the ground around him and dripped slowly off Caine’s axe. With his good leg, Kai forced himself to the side, pulling his blowgun around to his mouth and landing one of the darts in Caine’s shoulder. It would take longer for the poison to kick in here than if it had been a shot to the heart, but it would have to do. Caine ripped the dart from his shoulder, throwing it over the edge of the arena and laughing, unaware of its poisoned qualities. A few feet away from him, Kai knew his only option was to use his trident. He subtly pulled it from his back, and painfully launching himself towards Caine, headbutted his ex-ally and knocking him to the ground. It wasn’t lethal, but it had taken Caine by surprise and given Kai enough time to ready himself for his next move. As he tried to pull himself up, Kai kneed the boy in the face, leaving his nose broken and blood dripping down from it. The poison had kicked in and Caine’s moves were getting sloppy.
"I always said I would make it home. I just hope you enjoy your new home, Caine." As Kai spoke, he thrusted his trident into the back of the boy’s head, the crunch signalling that it had broken his skull. His body collapsed to the ground, as a cannon boomed. Across the arena, Morrissey looked to the sky, and then to where Molly had been standing but seeing only an empty space. He smirked to himself, assuming the reality of a kill had scared her off. He was wrong.
Less than an hour and the finale will posted, for all to read up to who our victor is! Who's excited?! Also, there's something special for the victor, that will be posted, about an hour later (so hopefully people will be able to read the entire finale). Well, it's not really special. It's kind of expected, at this point. GM Eustacia had a big part in it (that's me)
Stay tuned, Tribs!
And since this'll probably be the last time in awhile I get to say this, I'm going to say it, even though we've already picked a winner:
And may the odds be ever in your favour.
Can we expect a finale soon?
We already posted something explaining the exact time it will be posted. Stop sending in these messages because I've run out of creative ways to answer them. -GM Ryker
I juat love how you are killing the final four from anticipation, it's just beautiful!👌
It's what we do! -GM Ryker
The finale will be posted tomorrow night, at 9pm EST (2am GMT, 6pm PST, 8pm CST, noon AEST).
Good luck.
ATTENTION TRIBUTES
The finalists of the sixtieth annual Hunger Games have given it their all, and the winner has been decided after an incredibly hard decision. The story is being fitted together with parts from each tribute and it could very well be posted tonight.
At 7pm EST, a post explaining the exact date and time (even if it is tonight) of publication of the final task will be posted. Unless it's been completed by then. In which case it won't be posted. You get the idea.
Molly, Kai, Morrissey and Caine - good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
The anticipation is killing me!!!!!
The kill story might also kill you so let's not get too excited ;) -GM Ryker
The post to let us know when? Where's that? So are we getting it tonight?
Calm yo titties fool - GM Rizzle Nizzle
I say you guys be even more awesome and post the victor tonight. We would love you even more :).
I'm sure you would ;) If you want at least a half decent story though, you're probably going to have to wait until tomorrow. It might be tonight if we get it done in time though. Who knows. We'll make a post to let you know when either way! -GM Ryker
We've received all four tasks from our last four tributes. Confirmation messages were sent out, so you all should've received them. Now that you all have done your last task of the Games, we shall see if the odds truly are, in your favor. I'm not sure when we're going to have the entire finale done (since there are four of you), but know, it'll be worth the wait.
We're going to have a victor soon, everybody! How exciting!
-GM Eustacia
Do you have favorites
All of our finalists have stood out during the games, but going into the finale I can honestly say it's all going to come down to how good your submission is. I wouldn't be able to decide without the submissions because you've all grown on me, and I'm sure Eustacia feels the same way! -GM Ryker
Please remember - your final task is due tonight. We have received two so far, and have messaged you to confirm we've received them. If you have submitted and not received a confirmation message yet, please let us know as tumblr may have eaten it.
