Elder Scrolls Names: Bosmer
The Bosmer, like many other races, do not carry family names. Only a few Bosmer in lore have:
Hyna Dorn’ke - A criminal Bosmer imprisoned in the Ministry of Truth. She apparently poached pilgrims.
Indaryn Drurel - A Bosmer with a Dunmer name. One can probably guess his backstory.
Haymon Camoran - a legend that I will not go into detail about but instead just link this here.
Lady Allena Benoch - a master swordsman with an entire book about her, titled Words and Philosophy. It’s a good read.
(I subtracted two names because they’re minor characters in stories: x x)
Bosmer first names vary a lot. I found that male prefixes do differ from female prefixes, but there isn’t a clear defining line. There was definitely overlap between genders, but the only prefix I found that was common in both was Ang-. More females had double letters like “uu” and “aa”, while more males had the “ae” combination. But you could still find both in both genders. The best I could do was make a list of common prefixes by gender, disregarding overlaps:
Male Prefixes
Aen-, Al-, Amr-
Ang-, And-, Anth-, Ath-
Bae-, Cae-, Dae-, Gae-, Mae-, Rae-, Fae-
Bre-, Bri-, Bro-, Bra-,
Cin-, Cir-
Ele-, Elo-
Eng-, Eni-, End-
Er-, Era-, Eri-,
Fa-, Fi-, Fo-
Men-, Min-, Mon-, Maen-
Ned-,
Thoro-, Thaur-
Tuu-, Uu-
Female Prefixes
Aer-, Ara-, Are-, Ang-
Bau-
Doth-
Cal-, Can-
Cii-, Cuu-, Huu-, Naa-, Uu-, Thii-
Ele-, Elph-, Elra-
Far- Faur-
Gal-, Gel-, Gil-
Gwaer-, Gwe-
Nae-, Lae-, Thae-
Nil-
Suffixes are similar in variety, but thankfully easier to distinguish. Male names tended towards the “oh” sound, while female names tended towards the “eh” sound. There were suffixes that were gender-specific and suffixes that were gender-neutral. So, I organized my list along those lines:
Common Male Suffixes
-goth, -oth
-thor, -gor, -or*
-mir*, -aer*
-ing*
-dras*, -los
-dan*, -orn
Common Female Suffixes
-dhel*, -thel, -chel
-aen*, -ian, -ia
-ril, -del*, -iel, -rel
-ra, -reth
-wen
*Suffix has been found in other gender (once or twice), but is very much more popular with this gender.
Common Suffixes for Both Genders
-rond, -on, -ion
-uin, -nir, -ir
-rin, -lin
-dil, -thil,
-las
That was a lot of work, geez. Bosmer are a very particular people.
What I noticed while I did this, though, is you could totally make a lore-friendly Bosmer man named Thorothor and that gives me comfort.
What do you think are the beauty standards of each tes race? (Male and female)
nords
in one of the lore books, the author notes that nords are fair and tall and often wear their hair in braids. i think nords find thick (muscular or plump, doesn’t matter as long as you’ve got some meat on your bones) women with blue eyes and light brown or platinum hair attractive, and tall muscular men with grey eyes and blond hair. they probably find braided hair alluring for both men and women, as it is their custom. broad shoulders in men and wide hips in women are the ideal body shape. breast size is generally disregarded, although women may be more drawn to men with larger pectorals.
nibenese
look i searched for hours for reliable sources on these fucks and colovians and i couldn’t find enough to put together headcanons.
colovians
see above.
bretons
bretons are slight of build and long of limb. their physiology varies greatly, as does their culture, due to their great political and social divisions. beauty standards are inconsistent amongst classes and geological divides, although long slim fingers are a common requirement.
redguards
redguard culture is extremely martial, and they reflect this in their beauty. tall, toned physiques are considered the most lovely. tattoos and body piercings are extremely attractive and most redguards have several. men are expected to have fantastic beards, and a man’s worth is measured by how great his beard is. that last part is literally canon.
altmer
the altmer pride themselves on their height, and i think they find taller individuals of both sexes attractive. bright green eyes are preferred, as is smooth, shining skin and long elegant limbs. altmer skin is gilded and sometimes sparkles and the more metallic an altmer is, the more attractive they are. they often look for blonde, platinum or fair red hair, with darker shades being frowned upon. the more godlike and ethereal one is, the better. in my headcanon, facial hair is less approved of than closely shaved faces, but a well-kept beard and mustache can still be considered nice-looking. altmer prefer slender men and women, with small hips and breasts.
dunmer
dunmer pride themselves on their harshness and vitality, and choose mates who reflect that in their physical appearance. sharp features are considered the most attractive, with high cheekbones and wicked jawlines often selected in both men and women. bright red hair and eyes are admired, and straight, tidy hair is considered a virtue as taming one’s appearance in such a rugged land is difficult. too much muscle is considered overwhelming, but dunmer prefer spouses with strong bodies as proof that they can stand up to malacath and dagon’s trials of the physique and environment. breast and hip sizes are not important, but again, taller lovers are preferred.
bosmer
bosmer thrive on intricacies, uniqueness and their connection to nature. small, lithe bodies are prized alongside powerful jaws and muscular but slender builds for women, with flat chests and slim hips. short, stocky builds with strong jawlines and straight noses are selected in men. bosmer with especially sharp eyeteeth and claws are the most attractive of the race, and those who file their all teeth to points gain extra hotness. extremely detailed makeup or war paint is thought to indicate attention to physiology, which is sacred to the bosmer.
orsimer
orsimer culture prides itself in how different it is from every other race’s culture. this is mirrored in their standards of beauty; orsimer find their people more beautiful the more they defy the beauty standards of other races. they also appreciate other aspects of their kind, and celebrate large, strong and well-toned physiques. long tusks are prized. all this said, orsimer don’t look down on those who don’t quite fit their bill; they revere malacath and all he creates, and believe that all orsimer are perfect as long as they keep within his code.
argonians
argonians find a variety of things attractive in their potential mates. females may create patches of colour on their skin when ready to breed, which draws in males. argonian men are more likely to win over their woman if they’ve shown a willingness to defend territory or possessions. brightly coloured feathers, throat patches and dewlaps may draw in members of the preferred gender, and male argonians often prefer women who have feminine traits. males will also emit pheromones that will indicate their personality traits and health to females, who may accept his advances if they are so inclined.

Reupload of this old piece, because I’m still v fond of it and the original was quite small / low quality. Long haired salt+pepper Blackwall!
First artwork I’ve actually done in years. A little art of my favorite streamer and one of the funniest and best people I’ve met online, KmDoll, together with her dog, Lucky. (Also did a version of her alone.) Wanted to finish this in time for Km’s birthday but finished it around past 1am. :P I feel like I could’ve done a better job, but hey, it has been awhile since I’ve last drawn anything. xD You can check out her Twitch over at www.twitch.tv/kmdoll

Happy New Year, I set up a private twitter account to post all my solavellan, lavellan, pirassan, etc spicy stuff that got purged during the big tumblr purification. If you’re an adult feel free to follow!

This is just a random thing I worked on as a breather between a few different paintings I was working on…I was trying to emulate Solas’ mural style in DAI (or Nick Thornborrrow IRL). It’s a fun style to use, or attempt to anyway.
