Introduction.
Hello, I'm Captain Samuel Wheeler of the Royal Army.
He/him.
I am an officer, no funny business.
Any information on the rebels is appreciated.
- Capt. Samuel Wheeler
*A man who appears to be a British officer is walking by. Curiously, he isn't wearing a wig, even though nearly all the British army men in Setauket wear them. How odd. Either way, though, this is a good opportunity to suck up to British officers see if there's anything he can do to help the army.*
-( @capt-samuel-wheeler )
Cypress perked up when he took note of this, fiddling about with his appearance for a moment, though he had no reference to gauge how he looked, he believed he looked decent enough to interact with a British officer, and approached the man. This ought to be good.
Ah, good day sir. I don't suppose we've met yet, have we? Cypress Sonnet, at your service, and at the King's command. I'm available to any sort of service you may require.
*The man turns to look at Cypress.*
Captain Samuel Wheeler, it's a pleasure to meet you. I don't currently need any assistance at the moment, but I appreciate the offer. I was just on my way to make sure a certain few of the soldiers under my command are actually working.
Ah, of course. You wouldn't mind if I accompanied you, would you? I wouldn't mind getting acquainted with how you yourself work, captain. I'm certain you do your work quite well.
I don't mind at all. However, I'm not doing much work at the moment, just making sure my soldiers are. And I'd certainly like to think I do my work well, considering I've been an officer for some time now.
*Samuel turns to face the direction he was going when he was walking.*
Let's go, then. I'd like to get to them in a timely fashion.
Of course.
*Samuel leads him to an area with some soldiers who are indeed working. They're doing various things, such as carrying boxes from place to place, but they don't look like they're feeling very well...*
Hmph. It's good to see that they're finally doing what they were supposed to be doing yesterday.
They seem to be moving rather slowly. How unproductive.
*Samuel sighs. He seems to be irritated with the soldiers.*
At least they're moving at all. They were supposed to do this work yesterday, but instead, they decided to drink. The punishment I gave them is to work while suffering the aftereffects, and quite frankly, I believe I let them off lightly.
I'll have to agree with you, captain. They could be doing much worse while hungover. Not that I would know too well, but they're rather lucky they didn't get stuck with even more work. You seem nearly merciful, thinking of it.
Hm, most people wouldn't say that about me. I often hear people describe me as rather strict. However, I don't think I'm being strict, I'm just making sure my men are properly disciplined and doing what they're supposed to be doing. Men and women alike need to be properly disciplined to turn out to be good and responsible people. For example, I was disciplined properly, and I turned out to be a good and responsible man. Clearly, these men did not receive appropriate discipline as children, so they must receive it later in life instead.
*Samuel observes the hungover soldiers for a while longer, then turns to look at Cypress.*
Well, I've done what I needed to do here, so I'm going to get myself something to eat. You're welcome to join, if you so wish.
I would love to accompany you, sir, if you'll have me.
*Luckily for Cypress, Samuel seems to be unaware that Cypress is not paying much attention to what he's saying.*
Very well, then. Let's head to the tavern.
Of course, let's go.
*As they walk to the tavern, Samuel starts talking again.*
So, what do you do for work?
I ah, work, at an orphanage. I suppose you could also say I'm, looking, for work. But I don't see why anyone wouldn't hire me, I'm an extraordinary individual, am I not?
*Samuel hums in acknowledgement.*
That's not a bad place to work. Raising children who don't have parents to become productive and responsible members of society is important, considering their parents aren't around to do so. Though, you sound rather unconfident about it. Did you just start working there?
And if you're looking for work, feel free to consider enlisting in the Royal Army. You seem like a decent man, so I'm sure you'd be welcome.
Cypress somewhat shrugged in response to the question, trying to come up with an explanation where he wouldn't have to further explain himself. He liked attention, just not the kind in which he was getting interrogated, apparently.
I suppose you could say that. Though, I am quite good at it, how could I not be?
Cypress seemed to think at the suggestion of enlisting in the Royal Army. He really shouldn't have been thinking of it at all, but here we are, good work, Samuel.
Maybe I will. After all, I'm certain the war will be easier to win with someone such as myself working against the rebels, no?
*Samuel nods.*
Having more men willing to fight for the cause is always appreciated. Though, do keep in mind that you will have to listen to your superiors. And what do you mean by "someone such as yourself"?
I'm wonderful, am I not?
Cypress hummed, trying to make it clear how supposedly excellent he was with a grin that might've made him seem attractive. If one is attracted to men, anyway, fiddling with his sleeves as if he didn't already know he looked good.
Of course I'm aware of following rules, and superiors and all that, but I'm as good at that as everything else. I'm great at everything, why would being a soldier be any different?
*Samuel narrows his eyes at him.*
If you say so. But remember, they say that pride comes before the fall.
*Before either of them can say anything else, some British soldiers call Samuel over. After a little bit, Samuel walks back over to Cypress.*
It seems our talk has been cut short, as I am needed elsewhere. I suppose we'll have to have lunch another time. Have a good day, Mr. Sonnet.
Ah. Of course. Good day, captain.
Cypress let the captain leave without any protest, he had enough control for that at the very least, and then headed off to go sulk by himself when no one was watching. Crybaby.
Major Hewlett, why are you throwing rocks at not only civilians, but officers as well? You certainly know better than this. Did my men who elected to drink instead of work the other day put you up to this? You shouldn't let yourself be pushed around by your subordinates, especially those who aren't even officers.
- Capt. Samuel Wheeler ( @capt-samuel-wheeler )
I sincerely apologise, Captain. My behaviour was unacceptable and inappropriate, especially as the ranking officer.
Um. No matter why it happened, I just wish to assure you that it won't happen again. I was.. unwell, and I hope that it's forgivable to some extent.
- Major Hewlett
...Very well, then. As long as such behavior does not occur again, I suppose I will forgive it for the time being.
- Capt. Samuel Wheeler
