Swyn Song|| Water Birds
captain-ameliasmollet:
It was strange that in such a precarious situation (a motorbike swerving through backroads with only a helmet as her protection from the unforgiving road beneath) Amelia found herself feeling utterly relaxed and at home. Like sheâd finally found her place and no matter the circumstances, on the back of this bike was where she was meant to be.
Of course, she immediately recognized the spot Daisy had pulled to a stop at. Grasses and hills and all, it looked just the same as it had all those months ago, except now it was bathed in the sunâs setting light. It seemed even more beautiful than it had before. She pulled the helmet off her head before taking Daisyâs hand and swinging over the bike easily to stand beside her, squeezing back in response to the previous squeeze. She looked from the sunset to look at the blonde next to her. Blue eyes reflecting the purple and orange light in the most breathtaking way. At the kiss to her hand, she mimicked the gesture, lips pressing to her girlfriendâs knuckles softly as she spoke, eyes looking to hers.
âIâll miss the quiet of it all. London isnât exactly the most tranquil of locations. But as for everything else, weâre taking far more from this place with us than we realize.â Everything seemed to just fit into place with Daisy. Life. Career. All of it. Sheâd even gotten all sentimental at Janeâs wedding about the future. Her future. Their future. All the pieces just all fell into place and worked as the most efficient vessel sheâd ever encountered. Theyâd face rough seas ahead, undoubtably so. But with a vessel like theirs and the effort they could both put forth? It could conquer the biggest maelstrom life could fathom.
The former captain looked out into the sunset, a small smirk appearing on her lips as her words flowed forth without prompting. âI hope you know how ardently I love and adore you, darling. And if you donât, well then, Iâll just have to try harder, wonât I?âÂ
Nearly six months ago, Daisy had sat on the side of a hill with Stan and talked about how she did not feel ready to leave. As usual, Stanâs words had been kind and encouraging, but still deep down in the pit of her heart, Daisy had doubted herself. Thatâs the way she was, though â always doubted and second-guessed, had to make sure every last detail lined up before she acted. It was how she was, how sheâd always been, and even right now, even as sheâd just told Amelia she felt ready, more sure of this decision than she had been of others before, her heart was hammering.
She wasnât really ready, was she?
But would she ever be?
She looked at Amelia now, gently squeezing her hand.
âWell, weâll both try our hardest, wonât we?â she teased, then leaned towards Amelia so that their shoulders touched and she slid one arm around Ameliaâs waist and hugged her closer. âIâm not quite so sure of these things usually but I know that you love me and that I love you and â â
She looked out at the setting sun, at the town theyâd lived in for the past few years, the town that had brought them together in the most wonderful of ways, and rested her head on Ameliaâs shoulder. Daisy could feel the warmth of Ameliaâs body.
âItâs going to be marvelous, donât you think?â she said, voice soft now. âI mean, it might not be. There might be a lot that goes wrong. Iâm scared still, I am, butâŠâ She tilted her head to look up at Amelia, and there was a smile across her face, her cheeks flushed with the good sort of blush â the excited kind, the âI do so love youâ kind, the âletâs do this, togetherâ kind â and she slipped a hand to Ameliaâs cheek and kissed her gently.
âIâm ready,â she said, after she pulled away. She took a deep breath, the giggled, leaning to kiss Amelia again and again.
