The Empress is such a beautiful ship, and it's unfortunately so hard to find good reference images of her on the internet, so I'm compiling what I have in this post.
here, have one 🥦
Once saw something that said "Warhammer is quintessentially British while Dungeons and Dragons is quintessentially American"
I've thought about it a lot and it does add up in a horrifying sort of way.
There has been this lil thing needling my brain when consuming Warhammer content where I'm like...annoyed that nobody matters? That 95% of life in this universe is regarded as cheap and meaningless? That, unless you're part of this top echelon of humanity, you're basically on par with a mouse who's solely been bred into existence to feed a snake.
And I've known on an intellectual level it's a dumb thing to feel irked by--like it's a Grimdark setting, this is the whole deal--but I kept asking myself "why does this get under my skin?" and I think that quote perfectly explains why.
The British class system is so fucked and omnipresent that, like, yeah: for the vast majority of British history, most British citizens have been feeder mice and they're well aware of their place in the hierarchy. You aren't allowed to forget it. The aggessive classism is baked so deep into the culture that it becomes a sort of obvious, bland fact of life.
And America has it's own insane class issues and rampant inequality, but we also have the myth of the American Dream and a hyper-individualist culture counteracting it. So while you are almost certainly a feeder mouse, you're still raised to feel "I'm something, I'm important, the world just doesn't know it yet". A whole country of temporarily embarrassed millionaires.
So Warhammer represents the British class system turned up to 10000; most people are a speck floating by in the background of a story about bigger, grander characters and there's nothing they can really do about it. The random guardsman is never going to become a character as important as a fuckin Primarch, there's no narrative upward class mobility if you will.
But Dungeons and Dragons is almost always a story about a ragtag crew of random schmucks taking on Big Bads and defeating them, it's about equal opportunity heroism. You may be a rogue who started life as a pickpocket street urchin, but you and your friends still lay waste to an overpowered evil wizard using naught but wits and teamwork.
And it's embarrassing to admit, but my American brain worms start screaming when presented with such a British worldview because it makes it clear: I would not matter in this setting. If I existed in this universe, I'd be dead, enslaved, a servitor, working myself into an early grave in a hive world factory or cannon fodder because that's just how life is for 95% of humanity and there's no reason why I'd be the exception. And the fact is, as unpleasant as it is to acknowledge, my dogshit American main character syndrome ego does not like that.
But whaddya gonna do.
you can't leave this in the tags sis
"THIS SHIT SMACKS OF MARGARET THATCHER" I scream as I flip a game table
to paraphrase something I said long, long ago:
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only TORIES
Well.... There is the rumour that Gazkul Mad Udk Thrakah is named after Margaret.....
I feel it needs mentioning that sadly, ghazkull is not actually named after maggie the milk snatcher, the name is completely coincidental (iirc it was based on some hombrewed orc langauge based on lotr).
The actual margaret thatcher parody was elector count magritta of marienburg from warhammer fantasy who was elected empress of the empire of man during the age of the three emperors but not officially acknowledged by the grand theogonist. Notably this happened in 1979 IC (it should be noted that the modern day of whf is in the 2520s)
Happy 20 year anniversary of Neil and his Tunes!

Watched the breakfast club for the first time today and not one mf in that film even MENTIONED breakfast what a scam
going insane over the Black Pearl's figurehead
did you know. there were different versions between CotBP and DMC/AWE...
the way her "skin" flaking off on the original version almost reflects the skeletal curse...
the way the pattern of decay looks like tears...
she is the decrepit ghost of what was once a lovely symbol of freedom now chained by the curse and forced to chase after the missing gold pieces <3
the plot of revelations basically
made these a while ago and never posted them el oh el
In honor of the Ides of March approaching, here’s the trash can I wrote on 2 years ago and only touch up in March
Modern day Merlin is apparently keeping himself busy while waiting for the once and future king by responding to admin requests for the national gallery
the merlin cat returns
in so many situations i shouldve just acted fucking worse idc
if you pitched goncharov vs the dangerous crow boy (who destroys plastic) alongside one another to an outside person and asked them to choose which one was a tumblr fever dream and which one was a real thing published in the real world. i do not think they would choose correctly
Daniel Cross is such an interesting but tragic character. Because normally when sleeper agents are introduced in media, it shows how ruthless they were made to be, and then pushes the focus to their healing process. Forcing them to become human again
Except Daniel doesn't get that luxury. He's turned into a sleeper agent from a very young age and that manipulation stays with him until his death. He only starts his "healing" while looking for the assassin grandmaster which he only did because that's what he was trained to do. Find the grandmaster and kill him. It's the first thing he asks for when first coming into contact with the assassins and the one thing he works for the whole time hes there.
We never see his real personality or what he might be like in a better situation because he's never put into a better situation. He's never redeemed, never given peace. He was raised a sleeper agent and died a sleeper agent.
And what makes this worse, his death was nothing more than another manipulation tactic used by Vidic
Gwain from Merlin isn’t appreciated enough as a contender for “most character of all time”
He was born a noble, was kicked out after his father’s death and rather than use this status in any other court (Merlin points out he could have been a knight under Uther since he is noble) decided to sleep in hay bales and drink all day.
He is the best swordsman in the group with little to no formal training. I also don’t imagine he was training regularly while going on his cross country drinking rampages.
Serial flirt
Is a really fun example of “I am here for one person and one person only”. He has 0 interest in Arthur outside of the fact Merlin is obsessed with Arthur. (He explicitly states at one point “I’m not here for Arthur.”)
Class clown
His reasoning for taking part in several life threatening quests is boredom and “why not?”
Any more reasons let me know, but he’s just so fun!
