Why do you think Anne Rice is problematic?

Because she has actively harassed fans and sent lawyers after them for writing fanfic. She had other fans DOXX fic writers.

Because when people posted unflattering reviews on Amazon about Memnoch the Devil, she lost her mind and wrote a huge rant IN THE AMAZON REVIEWS SECTION. While it did give us the priceless quote of “you’re interrogating the text from the wrong perspective”, that is not behavior an author should indulge in. Never ever respond to reviews.

Many people consider her writing full of problematic things. I mostly shrug at that, because policing what people write is not okay. But I am willing to say that her genteel Southern White Lady racism is gross.

Her writing is hugely important to me, especially the first three Vampire Chronicles books. But I will never forget she’s not a great person.
