um mechanical engineers can build robots but it's hader to develop the control software for them because it's not something included in their curricula so they don't really learn it in school, maybe you mean mechatronic which is pretty much robotics

I will ask her and until then I will stick with super smart lady that I love engineer and I won't be wrong.
