Ok I’ll be honest. I do not care for the Third Parent. At all. In the words of Peter Griffin: ‘It insists upon itself.’

I chalked my initial discomfort with it down to me not being the target audience, being as I am not a victim of CSA at the hands of a parental figure, however I reread it recently and found myself only further irritated by it. It is a gore fest where women and children are molested and brutalized with a complete lack of depth, subtlety or finesse. It didn’t really scratch any horror itch, it just made me feel plainly repulsed. Tommy Taffy was an interesting concept for a monster, and that’s sort of where it ends.

Oh my god, FINALLY. The third parent is brutal shock value masquerading as horror, and it isn’t even shock value done well. I never liked it, and as someone who HAS endured those things, I thought it was really exploitative and badly written.
