“Oh,” Gemma grinned, “Well happy belated birthday then, and good luck with Keegan. Or whoever you decide to pursue. Just, be mindful of your cabinmates,” she nodded, scratching the side of her head. “Nah,” she chuckled, shaking her head and wrinkling her nose when the question was redirected to her. “I mean sure I’ve had crushes, but they’ve mostly ended up being on people who wind up not coming back. Just my luck, right?”

“Thanks doll!” Cara said cheerily, winking. “Don’t worry about my cabin mates, I’m currently all alone.” She added for good measure. She frowned a little and nodded in understanding. “Ugh, I totally get that feeling. Happens all the time. I mean, remember Adam? He didn’t even tell me he wasn’t coming back next session. But don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll get someone this session who will make you melt.”

“You’re gonna have to ask nicely for a key. I keep it somewhere safe.” Skylar bit their bottom lip, grinning at Cara. 

“Fine, I’ll ask nicely.” Cara pretended to sigh, grinning with them. “Sky, darling. Can I please obtain the key to your room. For, you know, our mutual benefit.”

“You know where my cabin is, babycakes.” Skylar winked, throwing the camper a set of sick finger guns.

“That sounds like an invitation. Should I be looking for a key?” Cara teased, grinning in response to their wink.

“Keegan? He’s cute,” Gemma mused, shrugging, “I guess you could do worse.” After a moment, she shook her head, “But you’re not even 18 yet, are you? So I think if you want to get laid- not that I’m condoning that at camp oh my god- you should probably stick to campers.”

“Actually, I just turned 18. So I am all here for a little older attention.” Cara said with a smirk. “What about you, Gemma? Any guys you’ve got an eye on?” She asked excitedly, bumping her shoulder against the other girls. “You can’t be coming here for years on end and not have a crush on someone, you know?”

“Oh my god.” After the initial shock wore off, Gemma tilted her head. “But also if you had to pick someone, who?”

Cara thought for a moment, biting her lip as she weighed options. “I dunno. I’m kind of over the campers here.. maybe that counselor, God what’s his name? Keegan?”

He laughed, twirling on his heels to face her as he walked backwards towards the Uranus cabin. “Damn, Cara. Buy a guy a drink first.” 

“Oh, is a drink all it takes?” She asked, her grin growing. “I’ve got whiskey back at my cabin. It wouldn’t be hard to accommodate that request.” She added, playing with her phone in her hands .

“Well, i’m seeing tons of new people here so I’m ready to get my flirt on.” She paused, “Ok that sounded weird coming out of my mouth, but you know what I meant.” She shrugged, “Like that guy over there, he’s cute.”

Cara laughed, shaking her head. “Okay, never say that again.” She said, sighing as she finally got control of herself. Looking in that direction she shrugged. “Sure, he’s an eight. But I think I want to start out with the tens this year. Do the hard to get and finish nice and easy.”

“S’mores are great. Though I mostly only eat them for the chocolate.” Cara nodded. “I guess this wouldn’t be as much fun if you had to come. I was either here or an all girls boarding school. I don’t think I could manage that.”

“Right?! I’m glad it’s not just me. I’m so excited. I swear I didn’t sleep at all the night before I got here. I can’t wait for all the activities to get started.”

“Yeah I mean. Violin is exciting I guess, but I can’t wait for the hidden activities. And of course to hear all about them, this camp is the most gossip heavy place I’ve ever seen, and I’m from Orange County.”

Josh made his way to his new cabin, his shiny new expensive headphones hanging around his neck as he passed a group of campers. “What’s up losers. Missed me?” He asked, glancing at their general direction without stopping.

“I don’t think I can properly decide if I missed you or not while you’re still wearing a shirt. You’ll have to take it off so I can give you a definite answer.” Cara grinned, tugging her shirt up an inch to exaggerate her point.

“You mean band people? Are there a lot of them around?” Lucy’s gaze wanders over the many faces and back to Cara’s. Jokingly, she adds, “Trombones kind of creep me out.”

“Well we’re not all band. Singers, guitarists, I play the violin.” Cara pointed out, shrugging. “But yeah, watch out for trombone players. There are a few here and there.”

“I don’t think so. I think I’ve grown an immunity to you now.” Cara smirked, shrugging her shoulders. “I don’t know why that’s so unfortunate. Your names been crossed off, I should be getting fresh meat now.”
