Words cannot express how utterly disappointed I am when it comes to helping Sudan. People are hesitant to show their support. They would even dismiss it. No, I am not making this shit up. I have been talking to people about Sudan and their reaction is lacklustre!

I know anti-blackness plays a significant role, along with the lack of media coverage (which is, again, due to anti-blackness), but this is unacceptable. Many people are dying. The country going through a flooding. Homes are destroyed. Families are displaced. Famine is claiming more lives than the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) and SAF (Sudanese Armed Forces) combined.

hii i took my GED tests and passed recently! in my experience the difficulty for the GED test has a bit of range -- some people have more difficulty and other people have less, it took me about three tries to pass my own math test -- and in that it ranges because each test is different, and it changes everytime you take it. i wouldn't say that it's extremely hard, but it is frustrating at times; you got this though! i recommend getting a GED kaplan book, you don't need a 2023-2024 version for it to be extremely useful and it would help with the cost of using the website to study (the books have practice questions, practice tests, answer sheets to grade yourself, ect. in them)

International women's day is coming up and I can't stop thinking about how many women will continue to be globally ignored by western/european powers. I anticipate women across the politician spectrum will be rejoicing how 'far women have come,' without being critically reflexive of how they are often complicit in the empire they reside in -without even blinking towards the women suffering and being killed, raped, and genocided right now in Sudan, as well as in Palestine and the Congo. It's all despicable.

The RSF must be stopped. This terror and violence must end. Sudan will be free.

Oh for fucks sakes. Rest in power was never black people specific, and has been used in the context of the conflict in Gaza since *2003*. One wikipedia search is all it took to find this out. Every post you make with this gatekeepey nonsense is another moment you could have spent advocating for Palestine. I work in Palestinian cultural history and I've never heard it used for nonblack palestinians before this Wikipedia article. I think it's more important to respect people's boundaries and culture than use a phrase you really wanna use. We say Allah Yerham As-Shuhada' or "Glory to the Martyrs" if you wanna use either one or them to refer to Martyrs for the Palestinian cause.

Oooo I'd never heard those phrases before, I'll make sure to write them down and use them when appropriate. I completely understand where you're coming from, but I think it's bad faith to imply that the people who're saying "rest in power" in reference to non-black people is ill intentioned. Sure, there are almost certainly people who are using it to drown out black voices, but I'd reckon they're a minority? What do you think?

I think from what I saw a lot of people were doing it to be disrespectful, especially nonPalestinian Arabs and white people who aren't connected to Black culture at large so my post was mostly a critique of them. As someone who is part of Arab culture I can tell the nuance of when nonBlack arabs are using it to be disrespectful. I guess I also want to say that we should stand with the oppressed and respect their boundaries and seeing people use the Palestinian cause as a shield to harrass people which is antithetical to Palestinian values as i grew up being taught makes me want to speak a little harsher regarding this.

I've had a discussion with several Black people about this before, and um. 'Rest in Power' does not date to 2000's. It's absurd to even think that. As a term is it meant to designate that when Black people and revolutionaries are killed by white people, it's to silence them, i.e. Rest In Peace is specifically what they want. When there is outcry against that silence, there is no longer peace, it is taking back the power -> 'Rest In Power'. When Black revolutionaries were being killed for speaking truth to power, in the Black Panther Party, the Black Power movement overall, they were said to 'rest in power'.

Aaron Bushnell didn't need to rest in power, he already had it and that's why he self-immolated. He literally has classified army documents which he leaked. It is absurd to tell him to rest in power, on top of the fact he's not Black.

The irony is, the Black woman who self-immolated for Palestine 2 months prior was silenced. We don't even know her name. If anyone should've been honoured with 'Rest In Power' it should've been her. Instead everyone let the government silence her without looking into it more. Palestinians talked about her and the government coverup of her act for weeks. She was silenced and white allies let it happen. Now they're fighting tooth and nail to fucking allow 'Rest In Power' to be used for a white guy in the army of all things. HE REFUSED TO HOLD THE POWER HE DID!! HE DOESN'T WANT IT!

I just wish people were less antiblack for no good fucking reason. The cognitive dissonances that arise from it? You deal with that.

So anyways the reason ppl say rest in power is a Black phrase (although in the Bay depending on the vigil I have heard it too for nonBlacks who spoke truth to power and tagged real shit but that is also down to the history of tagging and the Bay’s radical movements as a history as well) is bc of the roots and origins of the concept of People Power in Black revolutionary praxis. Even the article the wikipedia cites states this:

In addition to everything said above, the blog post cited on Wikipedia actually acknowledges that the phrase was in use at least a decade before the death of Dream. Wikipedia's editors chose to skip over that.

Here's the newspaper article he found which includes graffiti artists saying it in 1989. The article doesn't explicitly state the race of the people saying it, but it does refer to one artists, Prime, as a "homeboy", which is some strongly coded language (also racist but that's a given for non-black L.A. reporters).

One might argue that Wikipedia biases towards the example with Dream because he was a more notable figure than the anonymous artists in the newspaper.

But personally, I find it hard to miss that they picked out the first non-black person they could to associate with a phrase that was undeniably created by black people, for black people.

This is your daily reminder that Wikipedia is not a source free of bias and incapable of bigotry. Editors can be, and often are, massive fascists, and they won't be banned as long as they phrase it politely.
