I’m making this post to showcase all of the art commissions I have bought to support my friend @hashembadr. Hashem is #102 on @gazavetters' spreadsheet. You can read his story here. After 2 years managing funds for and fighting to support his family members who could not afford to leave Gaza, he is now returning to his original goal of raising funds to leave Gaza to join his wife and children in Morocco.
I would like to share the story of my friend Smahan. Today Sma… Hana ne Fazazi needs your support for Reunite a Family Torn Apart: A Daughte
The following artists have all agreed to draw in exchange for donations to his campaign! I encourage you to commission them and help support Hashem and his family.
Hashem and some of his family are currently renting an unfinished apartment for $300 a month while he waits to be allowed to leave.
There are twelve of them sharing 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen. No windows, no doors, but it's much better than the tents, which they lost in the storms.
Resources are still limited and aid is still not coming through at the rate that it is needed, so I really, really appreciate everyone who donates to or shares this campaign. It means so much to know my friend is getting help when he needs it so desperately.
I will continue to fight for him until he is safe from this madness and I hope you will join me this Ramadan!
I talked to Hashem today. I asked some questions I have been avoiding, about how bad things are. Things I knew the answer to but didn’t know how to face. He told me about the corpses he saw every time he went to an aid points. Men, woman, and children on the ground that you had to walk around or over. About the snipers that we had only talked about a bit when his phone was shot and destroyed. About the constant feeling of not being safe. And it’s all so different from my life.
I’ve only ever seen two dead bodies. One covered by a sheet from half a block away, and a friend at an open casket funeral. (Neither of these were gory.) I’ve never had a gun aimed at me outside of a paintball field. The most unsafe I’ve ever felt was probably the first night in my dorm at college. These experiences are impossible for me to relate to, but they are the experiences of EVERY PALESTINIAN.
I know the news is moving on, I know there are so many things going wrong in the world, and I know it’s all overwhelming. But please don’t stop talking about Palestine.
The crossings are closed and the killing never stopped. All they have is us.
I’m currently unemployed and applying for disability. I can’t give very often as a result, so please help me keep my friend fed and sheltered by sharing and donating ❤️ Donations go to rent and food. The latter is important because if they can buy food at the market, Hashem doesn’t have to risk going to deadly the aid points.
