The girl (Jude) was glaring at him, and Kaye wondered how they wound up dancing together. Then she noticed the way he (Cardan) was looking at her. But that made things even more puzzling.

Across the room, the prince walked away from the human girl, leaving her standing alone as figures whirled around her. After a moment, she headed toward the dais. The prince paused his retreat to watch her go with an expression Kaye recognized—the look of someone who wondered if the other person might be made of glamour and smoke, if they might fade away with a touch.

He (Cardan) looked away, his gaze going toward the dais, and Kaye realized he was looking at the girl. The mortal girl. “What I want,” he said, “is for Dain never to get the throne...But then it is my nature to only want things I cannot have.” (🥺 he truly didn’t think he was good enough for Jude)

Ok so Mal basically gave up his life for Alina, vowed to give her everything that he could, was ready to die just so he could deliver all of Morozova’s amplifiers to her, makes her happy and doesn’t want to use her for his own selfish reasons and has been by her side her whole life (whether it was bc of the fact that he was the one of the last of Morozova’s line or not , he was sill there for her) and people still hate him¿¿¿ like how???
