summary: from meeting at your best friend’s birthday party to a first date with felix - arcade tokens, shared food, and the quiet magic of just being together. every laugh feels like a promise and every glance like the beginning of something you’ve both been waiting for
a/n: hi loves 🩷 this is the sequel of the night we met (it was heavily requested tysm) so you should read that part before reading this one
the day moves slower than it should.
you wake up earlier than usual, but the minutes stretch long, folding over themselves as you try to fill the hours. every small thing feels amplified - what to wear, what to eat, even the way your phone buzzes on the table.
felix has been texting you since morning. not constantly, not in a way that feels overwhelming, but just enough to let you know he’s there.
you catch yourself smiling at your screen so often you start to worry your cheeks will be sore before the night even begins.
the past few days have been like that. messages that start with simple check-ins and spill into long conversations about little things - favourite comfort shows, the weirdest snacks you’ve ever tried, what time of day feels most alive to you. you learned that he likes mornings, the kind with soft light and quiet streets. you told him you prefer nights, the in-between hours when everything feels hushed and a little secret.
somewhere between texts and phone calls, the ease settled in. his voice is lower over the phone than you expected, smooth with a quiet laugh tucked at the edges. you talked until your battery warned you twice, and even then, neither of you wanted to hang up first.
still, it’s been days since you last saw him in person. and tonight feels heavier than those phone calls, more real somehow. like everything up to now has been sketch lines, and this is the first stroke of colour.
you pull your sweater tighter around yourself and check the clock again.he said seven. it’s six fifty-eight.
you pace. sit on the couch. stand again. glance at the mirror, adjust your hair for the fifth time. your heart is a restless thing in your chest, thudding in anticipation and nerves.
a soft buzz from your phone from felix telling you he will be “outside in 2”
you inhale, steady yourself, and try not to overthink the fact that felix - felix - is about to knock on your door.
when the knock comes, it’s gentle. two quick taps, almost hesitant, like he doesn’t want to be too loud.
you open it, and there he is.
felix stands just outside, hands tucked into the pockets of his coat. his hair is down, a little messy from the wind, strands of blonde catching the porch light. he looks warm, soft, exactly like the person you remember from the party - but sharper now, somehow. more yours.
“hey”, he says, and the sound of his voice in person again makes something skip inside you.
“hi”, you breathe, smiling before you can stop yourself.
he rocks lightly back on his heels, eyes scanning you quickly before flicking away, like he doesn’t want to stare but can’t help it.
“you look… really nice”, he says, quiet but certain.
you laugh softly, brushing at your sleeve, “thank you. you too”
“thank you”, he echoes, then clears his throat, glancing down at his shoes for half a second before meeting your gaze again, “are you ready?”
“yeah”, you say, stepping outside and pulling the door shut behind you, “more than ready”
there’s a pause while you lock the door, your hands fumbling slightly at the key. nerves. you feel him waiting beside you, not rushing, just there. when you glance up, he’s watching with the faintest smile, like he already knows.
“what?”, you ask, pretending to be annoyed, but your cheeks are warm.
he shrugs, “nothing. just… you’re cute when you’re nervous”
you roll your eyes but can’t stop the laugh that slips out, soft and surprised “don’t say that, you’ll make it worse”
“sorry”, he says quickly, but the grin tugging at his mouth betrays him.
the street is quiet as you walk side by side down the stairs. every small detail feels magnified - the brush of his sleeve near yours, the rhythm of your steps matching without trying. you sneak glances at him when you think he’s not looking, and once, you catch him doing the same.
the air is cooler than you expected, brushing your cheeks as the door clicks shut behind you. the street is washed in the soft orange of lamplight, buildings standing still and familiar against the night sky.
felix glances at you, then gestures down the block, “it’s not far. maybe ten minutes. is that okay?”
you nod, “yeah. i like walking”
his smile grows at that, quiet but certain, and he shifts a little closer as you fall into step together.
the street is calm, only the sound of your shoes against pavement and the distant hum of traffic somewhere deeper in the city. every so often, your arms brush, a small spark that leaves your chest buzzing each time.
after a few steps, he speaks again, voice low.“i thought about calling a car. but walking felt… better”
“better how?”, you ask.
he thinks for a second, searching for the right word.
“slower”, he says finally, “like we don’t have to rush anywhere. we can just… be”
you glance at him, heart warming at the simplicity of it.
“i like that”, you say.
he looks back at you then, and for a moment neither of you looks away. the lamplight catches in his eyes, turning them soft gold, and you feel the same quiet flutter that started at the party, the one that hasn’t really left since.
“so”, you say, trying to steady yourself, “are you finally going to tell me where we’re going?”
his lips curve, but he shakes his head, “not yet”
“you’re really making me wait?”
“mm-hm”, he hums, “it’s better as a surprise”
you narrow your eyes playfully, “what if i hate surprises?”
he tilts his head, considering you, “do you?”
you hesitate, then admit, “no. not really”
“then you’ll be fine”, he says with a soft laugh.
the night air moves gently around you, carrying the faint scent of street food from a stand at the corner, the sound of laughter spilling from a bar across the way. but here, between the two of you, it feels quiet - full, but quiet.
felix’s hands stay tucked in his coat pockets, but every so often his shoulder brushes yours, lingering a little longer each time. you wonder if he notices. you wonder if he does it on purpose.
you catch yourself smiling again, and when you glance at him, you find he’s smiling too.
“what?”, you ask, breathless with the warmth of it.
he shakes his head, cheeks pink in the lamplight, “nothing. just… glad we’re doing this”
you don’t say anything right away, afraid your voice might give away too much. but your heart answers for you, thudding steady and certain.
you walk on. the night stretches ahead, soft and open. the street stretches quiet around you, pools of lamplight flickering across the pavement. the air smells faintly of rain though the ground is dry, and every few blocks, a window glows with the sound of voices and clinking dishes.
felix walks close, shoulders brushing yours now and then. he doesn’t pull away. neither do you.
“so”, you say softly, “what do you usually do on your days off?”
he thinks for a second, gaze tilted up at the sky.
“sleep. cook sometimes. i like baking, actually”
“baking?”, you repeat, a little surprised.
he nods, lips quirking like he knows what you’re thinking, “cookies, mostly. brownies. simple things. i like seeing people smile when they eat something i made”
“that’s sweet”, you say, and mean it.
he glances sideways at you, “what about you?”
you hum, considering, “i read a lot. or sketch. nothing exciting”
“it sounds exciting to me”, he says easily, like there’s no room for argument.
the words settle warm in your chest, unexpected but steady. you tuck them away like a small secret to keep for later.
a pause stretches between you, not heavy - just soft, like the night itself. his footsteps match yours, and you find yourself listening to the rhythm of it, the quiet comfort of moving together.
“i’m glad you’re not nervous anymore”, he says suddenly.
you blink, startled, “what makes you think i’m not?”
he grins, “your hands aren’t shaking anymore.”
you glance down instinctively, embarrassed, “were they that obvious?”
“just to me”, he says, voice gentle, like it’s a gift he’s giving instead of a tease.
the blush creeps up your cheeks before you can stop it. you try to hide it by looking away, but you hear him laugh softly under his breath, the sound light and warm.
you walk another block in silence, comfortable again. a soft breeze slips through the street, brushing strands of his hair across his face. he doesn’t fix them right away, and you find yourself watching the way the lamplight catches on gold.
then he slows.
“we’re here”, he says quietly.
you follow his gaze, and your eyes widen.
the storefront glows with neon light, colors spilling across the glass. through the wide windows you see the flash of game screens, the scatter of tokens, rows of claw machines and old consoles. laughter hums from inside, faint but bright.
an arcade.
you stop short, staring, “wait… seriously?”
felix’s smile curves wider, shy but proud, “yeah”
you turn to him, almost disbelieving, “how did you-”
“you told me once”, he says, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world, “that you loved arcades but hadn’t been to one in years. i remembered”
the words hit soft but deep, your chest fluttering so suddenly you have to steady yourself.
you can feel the heat rush to your cheeks, your voice quieter now, “you remembered that?”
his eyes meet yours, steady, sincere.
“of course i did”
for a moment, you don’t move. you just stand there, caught in the glow of neon and the weight of his words, feeling something settle deeper than you expected.
then, before you can stop yourself, you smile - wide, unguarded, almost giddy.
“felix, this is… perfect”
the grin that spreads across his face is bright enough to rival the neon lights.
the lights glow warmer as you step inside.the air hums with the layered sounds of arcade machines - bright jingles, bursts of electronic music, the clatter of coins dropping into slots. it smells faintly of popcorn and fried food, the kind of scent that clings in the air until it feels like part of the memory.
felix walks a little ahead of you, but he glances back, checking that you’re still beside him. when your eyes meet, his smile softens, and he slows his steps so your shoulders brush again.
“where first?”, he asks, looking around.
you laugh, a little overwhelmed by the options - rows of flashing screens, claw machines stuffed with plush toys, skee-ball, dance platforms waiting for songs to start.
“i don’t know”, you admit, “it’s been so long”
he hums thoughtfully, then gestures to the change machine, “let’s start with tokens. can’t do much without those”
the two of you gather handfuls of bright plastic coins, the weight of them clinking in the paper cups. felix shakes his lightly so they rattle, grinning at the sound.
“ready?”, he says.
“ready”, you echo.
the first game you try is skee-ball. you roll the ball too fast and it bounces off the rim, landing in the lowest point slot. felix doesn’t tease - he just laughs softly, that deep sound rumbling warm in his chest, and takes his turn with exaggerated focus. his ball arcs smoothly, landing near the top circle.
“show off”, you say, pretending to pout.
“beginner’s luck”, he replies, though his grin says otherwise.
round after round, you play. sometimes you win, sometimes he does, but each time you cheer for each other like it matters. the scores don’t stick - it’s the laughter that does, echoing between you like the only prize that matters.
from there, you wander to a racing game. you slide into the seat of one machine, he takes the one beside you. the screens count down - three, two, one - and suddenly you’re both gripping steering wheels, cars jolting across neon tracks.
“you’re terrible at this”, you tease, swerving past his car.
“just warming up”, he shoots back, leaning forward as if real effort might make the car go faster.
he crashes into a barrier seconds later. you burst into laughter so loud you draw a glance from the kids playing nearby, but you don’t care. the sight of him grinning sheepishly at the screen is worth it.
“not a word”, he says, but his voice is laughing too.
“oh, i’m never letting you live this down”, you promise, cheeks aching from smiling.
after an hour, you’re both flushed from laughing, shoulders loose, cups of tokens lighter. the smell of food lingers too strongly to ignore, and felix suggests grabbing something to eat.
the food stall is tucked near the back of the arcade, neon menus glowing overhead. you pick fries and a soda, he chooses corn dogs and something sweet - fried dough dusted in sugar.
you find a small table near the corner, half-hidden behind a row of claw machines. the noise of the arcade hums around you, but here it feels quieter, more yours.
felix sits across from you, corn dog in hand, but he doesn’t eat right away. instead, he leans forward, elbows resting on the table, eyes bright.
“want me to tell you a secret?”
you raise a brow, intrigued, “always”
he grins, lowering his voice slightly, “during rehearsals, chan hyung always pretends he’s the strict one. but the second we take a break, he sneaks into the corner to scroll on his phone and watch funny videos. he laughs so hard he almost falls off the chair”
you laugh at the image, covering your mouth with your hand, “that’s adorable”
“it is”, felix agrees, nodding, “and hyunjin - he’ll act like he’s too tired to move, like he’s dying. then suddenly, when music plays, he’s full energy again. dramatic, right?”
“that sounds exactly like him”, you say, smiling at the thought.
felix’s eyes crinkle as he watches you laugh, like he’s just as entertained by your reaction as the stories themselves. he keeps going - sharing little bits of life on tour, the strange food combinations seungmin forces them to try, jisung’s late-night bursts of chaotic energy.
you sip your soda, listening, smiling so wide your cheeks ache. he doesn’t brag - he tells the stories with warmth, like he’s letting you peek into something private but important.
“i love them”, he says at one point, soft but certain, “they drive me crazy sometimes, but i wouldn’t trade it”
you nod, feeling the sincerity in his voice, and murmur, “you’re lucky”
he tilts his head, eyes meeting yours, “i feel lucky right now too”
the words land heavier than you expect, leaving you breathless for a moment. your cheeks heat, and you quickly reach for a fry, trying to hide the way your chest flutters.
felix chuckles quietly, biting into his corn dog like he hasn’t just set your heart racing.
after eating, you toss your wrappers and drift back to the machines, lighter now, buzzing with sugar and the warmth of being so close.
you end up at a shooting game - plastic guns attached to the console, the screen flashing with monsters and explosions. you’re terrible at it. your aim is shaky, bullets scattering across the screen.
felix tries not to laugh at first, but when you let out a frustrated groan after missing three targets in a row, he cracks.
“okay, okay - here, let me help”, he says, stepping closer.
before you can protest, he’s behind you, arms sliding gently around yours to guide your hands on the gun. his chest brushes your back, his breath warm against your ear as he leans in.
“like this”, he murmurs, voice low, “steady hands. breathe”
your entire body goes tense - not from discomfort, but from how close he is, how suddenly the air feels too thin. your cheeks burn so hot you’re sure he can feel the heat radiating from them.
you manage to nod, focusing on the screen. his hands are steady on yours, guiding your aim. you shoot again, and this time the monster drops instantly.
“see?”, he says, grinning, “perfect”
your heart stumbles, and you laugh nervously, trying to play it off, “guess i just needed a good teacher”
“guess so”, he teases, but his voice is softer now, and he doesn’t move away right away.
for a moment, you stand like that - his arms around yours, the hum of the arcade fading into something distant. then the game flashes “level complete” in big neon letters, snapping the spell.
felix steps back, giving you space, but his hand lingers at your elbow for a second longer than necessary.
you turn to look at him, cheeks still red, and find him watching you with that soft, bright smile that makes your chest flutter all over again.
the night unfolds in pieces of laughter after that. he tries the claw machine for you, insisting he can get the plush rabbit you point at. it takes six tries and way too many tokens, but when the rabbit finally drops, he cheers like a kid, holding it up triumphantly before pressing it into your hands.
“for you”, he says simply.
you hug it to your chest, laughing, “you’re ridiculous”
“but successful”, he adds, grinning.
later, you challenge him to the dance platform, even though he swears he’ll embarrass himself. the first round, you trip over your own feet and nearly fall, laughing so hard you can’t breathe. the second round, he surprises you - light on his feet, moving with practiced ease that makes you stop mid-step just to watch.
“you liar”, you accuse between laughs, “you’re amazing at this”
he shakes his head, cheeks pink, “only because i practice every day”
“still counts”, you say, smiling wide.
the hours blur together in neon light and warm laughter, every moment brighter than the last. each time your shoulders brush, each time his hand grazes yours while exchanging tokens, each time his eyes meet yours across the glow of a screen - it all adds up to something that feels bigger than games.
something that feels like the beginning of a story you already want to keep writing.
the arcade grows quieter as the night stretches on. machines flicker one by one into silence, screens dimming, music fading. the overhead lights hum softer, signaling closing time. a staff member walks by, sweeping, and calls a polite, “last round, please”
felix glances at you, a small smile tugging at his lips, “guess that’s our cue”
you nod, though part of you wishes the night could stretch just a little longer. your fingers tighten around the plush rabbit he won for you, its soft ears brushing against your arm.
the two of you step outside, and the cool night air greets you, crisp and gentle against your cheeks. the neon sign flickers behind you as the doors shut, leaving the street quieter than before.
“did you have fun?”, felix asks, turning his head slightly as you start to walk side by side.
you laugh softly, still riding the warmth of the evening, “fun is an understatement. i think i’ll be smiling about this for days”
his grin widens, boyish and unguarded, “good. that was the goal”
you glance at him, teasing, “what about you? did you have fun, or was it just babysitting me while i missed every target in those games?”
he chuckles, the sound low and warm, “hey, you got better. besides, i had the best time”
his words hang in the air between you, simple but carrying something deeper. you feel your cheeks warm, so you look down at the pavement, your smile tugging stubbornly at your lips.
the walk home is quieter than before, but not uncomfortably so. the street is almost empty, lamps casting soft golden pools of light every few meters. your steps fall in rhythm, shoes scuffing gently against the ground.
after a few minutes, you murmur, “thank you, for tonight”
felix glances at you, brow lifting slightly, “for what?”
“for remembering”, you say softly, “about the arcade. i didn’t even realise you’d listened that closely”
his expression softens, eyes glowing faint under the streetlights.
“of course i listened. it mattered to you, so it mattered to me”
you can’t quite meet his gaze after that. your heart races too fast, your chest too full. you squeeze the rabbit in your arm, hiding the way your lips tremble into a smile.
the silence that follows isn’t empty - it’s charged, humming quietly, like the pause between heartbeats.
then, without warning, you feel it - his hand brushing against yours. first just a light graze, then another, lingering.
you glance at him, startled, but he’s looking straight ahead, cheeks faintly pink, expression careful.
before you can overthink, he shifts slightly, fingers sliding into yours, warm and certain.
your breath catches, but you don’t pull away. instead, you let your hand settle into his, the fit so natural it feels inevitable.
felix exhales quietly, almost like relief, and when you finally look at him, his smile is small but so full it makes your chest ache.
“is this okay?”, he asks softly, voice barely above the hum of the night.
you nod quickly, squeezing his hand, “more than okay”
he squeezes back, and the two of you continue walking like that, hands linked, the world around you fading into a blur.
by the time you reach your street, you’re both slower, dragging out the steps like neither of you wants the night to end. the houses line quietly around you, windows dark, the world asleep.
you stop in front of your door, turning to face him.
“thank you again, felix”, you say, voice soft but certain, “this was… really special”
he shifts on his feet, his thumb brushing gently across your knuckles, “then we should do it again”
you smile, unable to help it, “i’d like that”
“good”, he says, grinning, “we’ll figure something out soon. promise”
there’s a pause then, lingering and heavy. neither of you seems ready to step away. his hand stays in yours, warm, grounding, until finally, with a reluctant little squeeze, he lets go.
“i should go”, he says quietly, though his eyes don’t move from yours.
you nod, though the parting tugs at you. still, you manage a small smile, shifting the rabbit in your arm, “goodnight, felix”
his lips curve gently, almost shy but so full of warmth, “goodnight. sweet dreams”
neither of you moves for a beat, then he squeezes your hand once more before finally letting go, taking a slow step back.
you turn, stepping towards your door, fumbling for your keys. behind you, you hear the soft scuff of his shoes as he begins to walk away.
then-
“hey”
his voice stops you instantly. you turn around, rabbit still in your arm, and see him standing a few steps down the path, looking at you with something unreadable in his eyes.
before you can ask, he’s moving back toward you, closing the distance in a handful of steps. his hand lifts gently, brushing against your cheek, hesitant but steady.
and then he kisses you.
soft, careful, like he’s been holding back for hours and can’t anymore. his lips press against yours, warm and sure, and the world narrows to just this moment - the faint hum of a streetlamp, the plush rabbit slipping slightly in your arm, the way your heart stumbles before finding a new, faster rhythm.
when he pulls back, it’s only by a breath, his forehead almost touching yours. his eyes search yours, voice low, almost a whisper, “i’ve been wanting to do that all night”
your cheeks burn, your lips tingling, but you smile, breathless, “me too”
his grin spreads slowly, like sunlight breaking, and then he leans in again, kissing you once more - softer this time, lingering, like a promise.
when you part, you both laugh quietly, the sound small but full, like it’s too big to contain.
“we’ll talk tomorrow?”, he asks, hopeful, thumb brushing your hand again, grounding you.
“definitely”, you whisper.
his smile deepens, his eyes soft, “then… goodnight. sleep well”
you nod, cheeks still warm, “goodnight, felix. get home safe”
he hesitates just a moment longer, as if memorising your face under the glow of the streetlamp, before stepping back with one last look that says everything he doesn’t put into words.
you watch as he turns, heading down the street, his shoulders lighter, his steps slow. he glances back once, catching your eyes, and waves with that same bright smile.
you stand there for a moment longer, hugging the rabbit close, your lips still tingling, your chest overflowing.
when you finally slip inside, you’re still smiling - because you know, with a certainty that surprises you, that this is the start of something beautiful.
and felix, walking home with his own smile stretching wide, knows it too.
