fiona  almost  bites  back.        —        sharp  tongue  has  always  been  her  own  worst  enemy,    especially  in  times  when  she  feels  cornered  or  judged.  it's  fight  or  flight  except  a  gallagher  usually  picks  both:      fight  then  flight.  she  doesn't  like  to  be  that  person  here  though.  not  in  this  house  and  not  with  jess.  they're  a  stronger  unit  than  that  or  at  least,  they  usually  are.  deep  inhale  helps  resist  any  instant  reaction  and  as  it  sinks  itself  back  down,  the  brunette  tosses  dishcloth  over  her  shoulder  before  approaching  her  girlfriend  with  no  caution.    "hey,  stop.  this  is  me.      —      you  don't  talk  to  me  like  that."    it  isn't  a  scold  as  much  as  a  soft-spoken  acknowledgement  that  she  knows  this  isn't  jess  talking.  it's  her  exhaustion.  fiona's  hands  reach  forward  and  she  gently  lets  the  flat  of  her  palms  find  the  curve  of  jess'  waist  either  side  in  an  attempt  to  help  ground  her  back  home.    "you  might  be  an  adult,    but  you're  not  fine.  you've  been  on  your  feet  for  three  days  straight."    if  not  longer.  thumbs  start  to  brush  in  slow,  soothing  circles,  head  ducking  in  an  attempt  to  lock  the  other's  gaze  in.    "i'm  not  tryin'  to  tell  you  what  to  do  here.  i  do  that  enough  with  everyone  else      …      i'm  just  lookin'  out  for  you,    'cause  that's  what  we  do,  right?  we  look  out  for  each  other."    even  if  she  herself  is  still  attempting  to  piece  together  exactly  what  that  means.
