The skin under his eye had gone dark and ugly, a bloom of violet and blue spreading across the hard plane of his cheekbone. The split at his upper lip was red and angry, the bruise on his other cheek shadowing half his face in a way that should have made him look rougher than he already did and somehow only made him look more painfully, unfairly handsome. She wanted to fix all the hurt on his face, sure, but a darker, more selfish part of her liked the way he looked ruined for her. It was a messy, vibrating kind of love.

Oooh, I hadn't thought of writing that. That's definitely a possibility :) So my idea is that Lucy was 26-27 in her rookie year. She still went to uni and then had a civilian job for a couple of years before joining the academy. I have Tim being around 8 years older.

“I love you,” he said quietly. “Same way I did back then. Probably more now.” She smiled, a little caught off guard, eyes narrowing as she looked at him. “Where’s all this coming from?” Tim shrugged, but his eyes didn’t waver. “I don’t know. Just… sitting here with you. After everything. Watching you keep this family together without missing a beat.” "You’re such a good mom, Lucy. It guts me sometimes, how lucky he is. How lucky I am.”
