BMW Karmann Asso Di Quadri, 1976, by Italdesign. Commissioned by the German coachbuilders, Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Ace of Diamonds concept was a pitch to BMW for Karmann to make a coupé based on the E21 3-series. Presented initially at the Turin Motor Show in silver, then later in red, only the concept’s wheels made it into production thanks to Japanese company Melber who licensed the design.
Volkswagen Karmann Cheetah, 1970. The beginning of Volkswagen’s relationship with Italdesign, the Cheetah was a design study based on a contemporary VW Beetle 1600 and was proposed as a potential replacement for the Karmann Ghia coupe. However VW’s transition from rear-engined, rear-drive air-cooled cars to front-engine, front-drive, water-cooled was underway so Giugiaro and Karmann’s attention turned to the first generation Scirocco instead

A couple of South African specials! The Ford Sierra XR6 and XR8 were two performance models developed for the South African market. The XR6 used the old 3 litre Essex V6 from the previous Ford Cortina as the 2.8/2.9 Cologne V6 was never made available.
The XR8 was a homologation special created to allow Ford to compete in the South African Group 1 Touring Car division. 250 cars were built with the 5 litre V8 from the Mustang squeezed under the bonnet, necessitating many changes under the skin and requiring the aesthetically-challenging four slat grille to feed air to the four-barrel holley carburettor.
Both models are of the five door variety - South Africa never received the 3 door Sierra shell.
Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.3 1ª Serie, 1977. The entry-level model in the Tipo 116 Giulietta was powered by a 95hp TOHC 1357cc 4-cylinder engine and had the same 5-speed transaxle gearbox as the larger-engined models and the Alfetta range. The rear transaxle configuration, which places the gearbox and differential into one integrated assembly provides an ideal 50:50 front/rear weight distribution.

Renault 5 Turbo, 1980. At the 2019 Rétromobile show, Renault is exhibiting classic cars powered by turbocharged engines. The culmination of the Renault 5 range, it was developed as part of a motorsport policy. The mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo was first and foremost as a competition car, the road version benefited from what the engineers had learned in motorsport. With Jean Ragnotti at the wheel, the Renault 5 Turbo won the 49th Monte-Carlo Rally in 1981.
