When you step into a grocery store to buy your weekly’s fruits and vegetables, you enter the store, you look around the different selections, read the small tag of where around the world they are from and then make sure there are no imperfections and finally place it in your cart. Most of the time when people go grocery shopping the only encounter they make is probably with the person you ask questions when you cannot find something, or the cashier. Nowadays with self-checkout, grocery shopping is a burden that is often difficult to enjoy, in my opinion.
In a big urban cities like Washington D.C., there are instances in which people want to get away and feel calm. Places like small open-air markets have become recreational spaces where couples, young people, families, farmers, fishermen, and even craftspeople interact with one another. In places like Eastern Market and the Warf (fish market) they exchange something beyond money and goods. Even in gloomy days, like the one I decided to go shoot for this project, colors and people’s kind smiles were well highlighted. Moreover, in both places I realized all my 5 senses were engaged with my surroundings. Through the following pictures, I hope to convey the same.

The city of Salvador in Brazil is decorated with colorful wish bracelets, which highlight the city's affinity for vibrant colors. In this photo taken with my iPhone 6, the shallow depth of field makes the colors the main subject of the photo.
