Today’s repeat and specially-remastered episode is all about explaining where Carol Danvers came from. Who was she, before she got her powers? What were her early appearances in comics like? It also contains a quick primer on what Silver-Age comics are, how they’re different from modern comics, and how the original Captain Marvel book (where we first see Carol) fits that time period in comics. I’ll run through the history of Mar-Vell and show you who Carol was in the sixties, all in preparation for delving into her history. I promise; it's fun.

I know I promised two episodes a week; getting back on the wagon after falling off for a few weeks is hard, guys. But no excuses! I'll try harder to make two episodes happen this week.

So I was brainstorming about ways to help people stay engaged and excited between now and the new series debut in the spring and one of the things I thought of that I really liked was the idea of building a Carol Corps wiki.  

I might have gone mad, I don’t know.

Does that appeal to anyone else?  Maybe…?

(I have zero idea what the technical requirements would be, but first let’s see if there’s an interest…)

After much travails with our original audio host, here we are, with the newly-remastered version (and repeat publication) of the very first episode of the Carol Corps Podcast! This episode will explain a bit more about what I’ll be doing here - what my future plans are, why I love Carol Danvers, etc. Moreover, it offers you some quick background on Carol - who she is, how she became a superhero, and why she changed from Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel. There is some ancillary mentionings of CarolCon, which happened back in July of 2013, but don't you fret your pretty little head about that - we're here to talk about Carol.

I've been bummed about the podcast ever since the PodBean issue happened, and I haven't wanted to deal with it, but I was so damn excited about Kamala Khan and the prospect of another Ms. Marvel and how awesome it sounds that I knew I needed to get of my ass, sign up for a new hosting site, and resurrect this baby!

Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting 2 episodes a week of already recorded and released material which is no longer available. Then, we'll be back in the swing of things and we should be back to once-a-week episodes, since I'll have between now and then to build up some backlog.

I'm glad to be back in this, and excited to bring my podcast back to you, members of the Carol Corps! (And Kamala Corps! Let's make that a thing yesterday!)

Still working on getting my audio up again - PodBean is being totally ridiculous! I'm gonna scrap it now and look elsewhere.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, can I get an Amen to Kamala Khan and a new Ms. Marvel?!? Yes yes and more yes.

There will most definitely be a Kamala Corps feature on the Carol Corps podcast. Just you wait.

OH HEY GUYS

We're back! Talking all about Deathbird. And Ms. Marvel. And Carol's budding propensity to be a player. And one of the best letters we've encountered yet in the Ms. Prints page. All that and more, in this week's exciting episode!

So yeah, it looks like biweekly is a thing for the foreseeable future. Oh well; that's life! Enjoy this anyway.

I know, I know, I know, I didn't have a new episode for you this Thursday. Like I explained last episode, it may have to become a biweekly thing, instead of every week, simply because this PhD program is kicking my ass! Anyway. I have, however, been continuing in my accrual of all things Carol!

As I mentioned in the first issue of the podcast, I purchased in one lot all of the Ms. Marvel comics ever produced. However, that left some serious holes in my collection, such as Avengers 200 (which you've seen in a previous post on this blog), Avengers 197-199 (where the rapey fetus appears and comes to term, and which I got this last week - see 197 above!), Avengers Annual 10 (where Carol rips the Avengers a new one for everything that happened in 200 - SO SATISFYING), Uncanny X-Men 164 (the birth of Binary!), and today at my LCS I found Captain Marvel 18, where the Psyche-Magnitron exploded and all this fun began.

So stay tuned! I have some cool stuff in the works, and I promise you a new episode on Tuesday - we'll be breaking down the next two issues!

So in my efforts to buy everything in floppy that we'll be discussing for the podcast, I finally got my copy of Avengers 200 in the mail yesterday, so tonight I popped it open and gave it a read.

I CAN'T WAIT TO TALK ABOUT WHY IT'S SO TERRIBLE IN A FEW WEEKS ONCE WE FINISH MS. MARVEL VOL. 1

(I also just won an auction today for Avengers Annual #10, in which Claremont takes the Avengers to task for their behavior in this travesty of a trainwreck. So that's exciting, I suppose . . .)

This episode features Ms. Marvel vol. 1 #6, in all its (sorta boring) glory! Seriously, though; this issue is pretty run-of-the-mill. There's a monster; he's strong; he fights Carol, who is not quite as strong, but is smarter. Yeah. But hey - the letters page ends with some great calling out of slutshaming by the Marvel staff! In 1977! I know, I'm shocked, too.
