Jack was suicidal after his son died, and this is really the only thing that gives his life meaning, Daniel is looking for Sha're, Teal'c wants to free his people... But Sam? She's doing this for the love of the game. She lost her mom at an early age, and struggles at times to connect with people, but overall the reason she joined sg-1 was to do cool crap and learn.
