A group of college students known as Project Edge did when they joined with IBM to create a cognitive space probe smart enough to spot potential dangers as it orbits above the earth. Their lightweight probe, the Space Sentinel, uses Watson image recognition and social sentiment analysis to see dangers like floods or forest fires as soon as they start. With this info, first-responders can jump into action sooner and save more lives.
