Art Final

For my final presentation, I decided to use futurism, surrealism, and abstract expressionism.

For Futurism, I put the setting in space. Futurism is defined by the futuristic ideas of its painters and having things not seen before. I also put the American flag on the moon to signify one of the most futuristic events in our country's history. I also put a martian, which ties into my next theme, about the idea that there can be aliens out in space in our future.

For surrealism, I center my piece around Melvin the Martian. Melvin is the only martian on the moon, and he lives there by himself. For fun, he likes to jump from crater to crater and see just how far he can make it. The only time he has had visitors were the astronauts that went there, but Melvin is glad they left him a cool souveinier.

Lastly, I incorporated abstract expressionism. I sed paint and put it in a funky manner and tried to be creative as possible. Normally I would have just done one shade as the background, but abstract expressionism taught me how to be bold and art is about standing out!

I love how abstract and creative the background is, with the different shapes and colors. I love the different textures on the alien's face and the moon.

Final

For my final project, I made an acrylic on canvas piece (8 in x 10 in) l. I was inspired by some techniques I have seen on TikTok and Pinterest and was excited to finally try it out! My piece would relate to the Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, and Minimalism Art movements.

My piece relates to abstract expressionism, as it does not have a specific focus and is not particularly detailed. The composition instead focuses on bright colors, shape, and flow across the canvas instead of having a central point or focus. The art has emphasis on movement and unique elements.

Similarly to the last movement, the piece exemplifies pop art mostly due to its eccentric colors and the repetition of its flowy lines. I would say this piece blurs the “boundaries of high and low art”, because it was “accessible” and easy to create but still looks “limitless” and aesthetic.

Lastly, my artwork could be defined as minimalistic, as it is very simple and once again does not have a central focus. The shapes are organic and not complex. I was able to let up on having exact control over how the piece would look by effortlessly blending colors and simply enjoying how they turned out.

I love the overlapping lines and colors you used. I also love how the thickness of the paint shows the depth of the lines.

ARTH 102 Final

I started my background with the “Cubism” unit. I loved drawing a bunch of shapes and trying to make them piece together, so I figured this would be the best way to start my final! I outlined the shapes to make them more blocky.

Next, i used “Formal Elements” to create a gradient from left to right inside of the shapes. I used warm colors on the left, and moved to cooler colors on the right. Keeping the color inside the shape helped me give some contrast against the white background.

Finally, i used “Your Art Voice” to add a sort of “message”. This piece is supposed to be a keepsake, so I wanted to make it something I would hang on to and maybe put it on a desk or a wall in the future. This led me to choose the words “Decorating with a moment of joy” because as much as I thought I would dread this class (I don’t claim to be creative or artistic in anyway), I enjoyed the change of pace in my assignments this class gave me.

I admire how consistent you are with the gradient technique with each individual shape. Each individual shape has its own uniqueness, yet they're spaced out so perfectly that there's no uneven negative space.

Final

For my final piece I incorporated Fauvism, Surrealism, and Impressionism.

I used Fauvism by using vibrant colors throughout the piece. I used reds, oranges, and yellows on the lady, while using calmer tones on such as purple, blue, and greens in the background. I use wavy strokes in her hair to show her happy energy in contrast to the calmness of the background.

Surrealism was used by me making normal objects with different ones. I made a shirt into a snake and a banana as a phone. Eyeballs for the clock and flowers. I want to show how casual the character is while interacting with this odd environment.

I used Impressionism by trying to put the image in a certain point of view. I wanted to make it feel like that the viewer's point of view is as if they're interrupting the lady during a phone call. To immerse the viewer into the image.

This class was so much fun, I love learning about the different styles and movements.

My character's name is Marcus, his favorite food is Mac and Cheese and his hobby is playing soccer and chasing squirrels.

I love how the background enhances how powerful Marcus's stance is.

This is Sheri, a puppet made from magazine clippings, tape, old cardboard, sticky notes, and thumbtacks. The thumbtacks are used as joints so her arms can move. The cardboard is taped together to create her body and the sticky notes are used to create her fashionable clothing. Sheri is a fancy lady who loves to wear bright vibrant colors. Unfortunately, she lost her nose after having multiple plastic surgeries, but she's making the best of it. She always has a smile on her face to brighten her day and others. Every day, she plays a silly song and dances to it.

This is Pamula. She loves to dress in weird color combinations each day to see the different reactions of people. Her favorite meal is steak with ketchup and wine with cola in it. Pamula's favorite hobby is to go to parties, and stow away cake from there, then feed it to the pigeons that are in the local park.

I used no pain as the quote because as a child, the use of technology was an escape for me from the real world. Some things happened during my life causing me to go down a deep spiral of the void called depression in my early childhood years. I added makeup products in my image because when I first found youtube, I would watch makeup tutorials, and I finally taught myself what makeup was and how to use it. They were fun happy videos, and through them, I was able to learn more about the world instead of being stuck in the bubble that I was in.

Richard Whiting, published the song in 1921. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything recorded that early, so instead l found a recording of his daughter singing the song years later

As a child, I would always put a music CD into the CD player and dance to it. By always I mean it was a daily activity, and all that noise probably drove my parents crazy.

I did the reflection technique for acrylic paint, where I put blotches of paint on the top of my page and sprayed water on it to cause a drip-like/reflection effect. I cut up the image on the right and glued and taped it onto the image on the left.
