Qalansiyah beach Detwah Lagoon - P.A.R.D.I.S.E. 🏝 . This wasn’t even really on the itinerary but @onestep4ward invited us to join him on his quest to find the elusive beach beyond the sand bar. We waded through the sting ray lagoon, with Johnny leading of course and making sure the path was clear of sting rays. God forbid if any of us got stung! It took us about 30 mins to reach the sand bar where we walked for another 15 mins before we saw the end - the gulf of Aden (?) in the Arabian Sea! Fun and laughter throughout the week in habibi’s car. Car no. 1 - Socotra 100. Most of the cars on the island are imported which explains why many cars have car plates from Oman or other Middle Eastern countries. Homhill plateau - despite being still slightly intoxicated from the night before, I decided to join the few fit individuals to hike up homhil. We were surprisingly fast (45 mins?) according to @onestep4ward to reach the natural infinity pool! The area is covered with dragon blood trees, bottle trees and frankincense trees. Climbing the huge sand dunes at Arher beach was no easy feat! Climbing it directly seemed easier than taking the long route but oh boy was @onestep4ward right. It was 10x more difficult! I probably took close to an hour to reach the top and I was completely exhausted! The view however made the climb all worth it. Dragon blood trees (Dracaena cinnabari) native to the Socotra archipelago, part of Yemen, located in the Arabian Sea. In arabic, it’s called Dam al-Akhawain, blood of the two brothers - Habil (Abel) and Qabil (Cain). The red resin of the trees are usually used medicinally. Making the best out of our wet weather plan! We arrived at mount cook today for our heli glacier hike but it was unfortunately cancelled due to bad weather. Decided to visit hooker valley despite the majority of the trek closed. @tincx managed to capture this picture that showed how strong the winds were!
