She's so incredibly bored. And when Angela gets bored, heads roll and blood gets spilled—reading isn't enough for her, nor is writing. Her boredom required more than pretty words and fanciful tales to quench; often, it needed adrenaline and blood. Preferably someone else's blood, but she didn't mind getting hurt every now and then.

With a sigh, the brunette slipped out of her flat and melted into the crowd passing by her apartment building. Perhaps she'd recruit a new member or mingle and learn a few things from the adults wandering the streets. Who knows, she might find a new ally or a new venture for herself.

“How did this happen?” Berlin asked, rolling his eyes as he looked at the cast on Wendy’s leg. It sucked for her, but it was better her than him. He would much rather be the one taking care of the victim rather than the victim himself. “Does it hurt?” he asked, a small smirk coming over his face. Pain was such an insteresting concept; it was bad in the moment, but it made you stronger in the long run. Overall, it was actually good for you.

Berlin legitimately laughed at her words, a real laugh for once. “You were too short?” he asked, highly amused by the thought of that. “Now I have to know the full story. Tell me or you won’t get any more painkillers.” He was joking, of course, as was apparent by the grin on his face. He wouldn’t be that mean… well, not to her, anyway.

“Why am I here?” he repeated to make sure he understood her properly. “I was bored,” he answered, plainly and simply. “I figured I had nothing better to do than check up on you. But I’ll leave, since you clearly don’t want me here.” He stood up with a teasing smirk. He should probably stop fooling around and actually continue planning the heist, but it was entertaining to do this.

Her jaw dropped, forming an incredulous gape at the thought of her painkillers being held hostage. She needed those, damn it, and here he was taunting—no, blackmailing her with them.

(Perhaps blackmailing was too harsh a word, but that's what it felt like.)

❝It's how most short people get injured,❞ she muttered, forcing her voice into a flat tone despite the mortification building. Did she really need the prescribed pills that badly? It's not like Wendy couldn't tap into Angela's resources; people would be none the wiser even if she did. Still, she'd admit that his company wasn't so bad. Infinitely better than some of the boys who wanted to join her network, that's for sure. ❝I couldn't reach something from the top shelf of the cupboard, climbed onto the countertop, slipped, and here I am.❞ The clumsiness could, she belatedly realised, afford her a better cover. After all, most criminals weren't clumsy, were they?

Maybe the embarrassment would offer him a good laugh. And also offer her a few more minutes with company; it felt nice (odd as it was to admit) to talk to someone as Wendy. She didn't get that chance often these days.

The tiniest flush of pink dusted itself across her cheeks, embarrassment flaring up as she remembered just how she broke her leg in the first place. ❝I was too short,❞ she mumbled in response to Berlin’s first question. It’s the extremely abridged version of the story, but she still can’t think of the whole incident without wanting to die of mortification. Ah, pride. The only thing she had that actually grew as she got older. ❝And it hurts sometimes, but I do have prescribed painkillers.❞ And if those weren’t enough, she knew someone who could forge prescriptions for her. She should be fine.
