This is a poem I wrote for an assignment that was inspired by when Alfred met Dictator Pickles, as well as Emily Youcis and seeing the dark path she went down.
(I don’t support Emily Youcis)
‘Icarus’
Awaking in a twilight zone
between mind’s eye and actuality,
tied to my circumstances,
I reflect on where the path has led me.
gravitational pull of inevitability weighing down my body
Hinders me from running
forcing me to acknowledge a part of my consciousness residing beneath the bedrock of my latent mind
Looming over me,
pride gives me a calculative facade of warmth,
resting it’s palm on my shoulder and offers an ultimatum
Grant it complete sentience over my body and retreat within my imagination
Or continue running
Again
And again
And again
As the world keeps revolving,
the urge to rebel and fight a losing battle gradually erodes within me,
I submit to it’s demands
The floor opens up and swallows me, consciousness departs from my body
I settle into the colorful confines of my mind
Releasing myself of principles and convictions
finally feeling victor in
achieving an illusion of freedom in imaginative captivity,
ignorance’s tight grip hugging my body,
Shielding me from the realities of logic and truth
Feeling catharsis from this burden being lifted off my shoulders,
my feet levitate from the ground
I skip on air,
gliding towards the celestial hues of sunset
feeling my skin bubble and burn from the scorching sun the more I run from reality, fleeing from consequence,
descending deeper into fantasy
Refusing to blink while looking at the sun as to deny a euphoric sight causes my retina, cornea and lens to burn until my eyes completely disintegrate from my sockets
While individual hairs on my arm stand on end from the chill of soaring through the wind at maximum velocity
Away from the greyness of reality,
I arrive face to face with the Illuminous sun, opening my arms for it’s warm embrace
Let it burn, let it burn,
Until the only remaining remnant of me are ashes taken by the wind.
The apprentice is a Trump biopic that flopped because it struggled to find a distributor (For reasons I will explain later) then flew under the radar and out of public consciousness. I’m still pretty shocked by this considering it’s about possibly the most talked about man in the world right now.
It’s also a shame this happened as it’s trying to have the important discussion about what makes a Donald Trump.
The movie is basically a villain origin story. When it reaches the end, the movie wants you to feel a sense of dread and terror over the fact that people made this man president, which I wasn’t really expecting because I thought this movie was going to be a piece of pro Trump propaganda.
The entire story behind the production of this movie is very interesting because it seems as if all of the odds were against the production crew from the beginning. From people not wanting to be involved because it wasn’t ’harsh enough’ on Trump, to having the film being funded by a conservative who then tried to pull out from the project after he saw how they were portraying him and even The Donald™ himself tried to send his goons after the production team, hindering the film from finding a distributor after he found out there was going to involve a scene of him assaulting his wife and called it a ‘hit piece’. It didn’t help that the movie released during the 2024 election as it only added fuel to his argument.
Like I said, people didn’t want to be involved in the project because they thought it wasn’t ’harsh enough’ with its portrayal of Trump. They were essentially just mad that they didn’t make him out to be an evil person from the beginning, but this was probably one of the biggest strengths of the movie.
One of the reasons why I and a lot of other people were so fascinated by the story of American Psycho is because it explores what it’s like to be one of the corrupt elites through a psychological perspective, allowing you to vicariously experience being one of these people living their day to day life because it was written by someone who was in the same position as the protagonist and using him as a vehicle to vent out his frustrations of what it’s like to be him.
For most of us, experiencing being one of these people through the medium of film and literature is the closest bit of insight we’ll ever get into knowing what it’s like to be in that position. But what American Psycho doesn’t do is explore how you get to that point, it only lets you know what it’s like to already be there. Whereas The Apprentice tells the story of the metamorphosis of a common man to becoming one of these monsters.
There were times where I honestly forgot I was watching a movie about Donald Trump. They allowed him to be an enjoyable and charismatic protagonist to follow, one you could find yourself rooting for. We watch as his morals gradually get corrupted by his greed and success until the people who were once close to him can’t recognize the man they loved, supported and mentored eventually coming to fear the monster they helped create.

for some reason I’ve just been watching a lot of character analysis videos on sonic characters from the Archie comics. I haven’t read a single damn comic or consumed any sonic content in eons but idk it’s just comforting to me
My dear friends, During the last war, my home was completely destroyed. In just a moment, I lost everything , my shelter, my memories, my safety, my whole world.
Now, I’m trying to return to North Gaza, to the place that once held my life, just to build a small tent and a simple bathroom… something that can give me a bit of dignity, a place to breathe again.
Tent construction cost: around $1,525 USD (includes wood, iron, waterproof fabric ).
Bathroom setup cost: around $420 USD (includes water pipes, water tank, toilet, sink, and plumbing materials).
Deadline : 22 October
Current Progress: $ 18,785 / $20,730

Gaza rises from beneath the rubble… but she is exhausted.
After two years of bombing, hunger, fear, and destruction, the ceasefire has finally been announced but what comes next?
We have come out from under the ruins with no homes, no food, no medicine, nothing but hope.
All our hard work and dreams are gone, turned into dust yet we still hold on to life.
Please, help us start again.

I contemplate the happy faces of people around me here in Ireland and reminisce about the happy normal life my family and I had before the war. A life that turned into a distant memory for us and was replaced by an unending series of horrible nightmares.
Unlike my family in Gaza, people here have access to drinking water, all types of food, electricity, and a roof over their heads. Above all, they are safe, and I cannot help but wonder if they genuinely do appreciate these blessings in their lives enough.
People seem relaxed and laughing wholeheartedly around me in Ireland. I wish I could laugh too, but I am crushed way beyond recovery on the inside. I was evacuated by my Irish college after five months of living the horrors of war in Gaza. I hope you will never know what it feels like to live in constant fear and worry and be horrified by the most sickening and scary nightmares every single night while you are far away from your family in such circumstances.
When did my people in Gaza cease to be human beings worthy and deserving of a normal life? Has it become normal now for my family in Gaza to be starved and killed while the whole world is watching the genocide? If that is the case, then you will have to excuse me if I seek every avenue to bring them to Ireland and start a new normal life like all people here around me.
I was assured by the Irish Reugee Council (IRC) and lawyers in Ireland that there is hope I can reunite with my family in Ireland. In difficult times, it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. For me and my family, you are literally our light and hope for a better life.

After all the fire, all the horror… we just want to live.
Years of bombing, hunger, and fear have passed — and now, among the ruins and tears, we’re trying to start again.
Gaza is exhausted… we are exhausted.
But despite all the pain, a small spark of hope still lives inside us — hope that comes from your kindness, your hearts, your humanity.
Now, there are no sounds of gunfire — only the sound of life trying to begin again.
