A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
s01e04 - Switch Hitter
A League of Their Own (2022–)
The queer series from Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson will conclude with an abbreviated run following months of negotiations with producers So
ONLY FOUR EPISODES? FINAL SEASON? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?
I can imagine that the showrunners had to fight like hell to get even that, and I'm grateful for them not giving up.
But the fact that queer audiences are still being seen as not worth investing in, makes me so angry.
Here's showrunner Will Graham's statement on this:
today carson and greta are having to really hold themselves back from storming amazon prime
there is something so humiliating about literally begging on hands and knees for a second season of aloto for SEVEN months and then they’re like oh my god fine here’s 4 little reduced budget episodes now please shut the fuck up like…i don’t know why i expected any better and i hate that i can’t even be fully happy about something we’ve all been wanting for so long. we shouldn’t have to be constantly settling for the bare minimum and it’s okay to not feel “glad we’re even getting anything”
four episodes is honestly insulting. season one was filled with great depth and attention to detail when it came to constructing characters and setting them up for satisfying character arcs- arcs which will all be blown away in four episodes. if they were being even slightly. honest with themselves, they’d admit that there was no thought into what could be accomplished in four episodes. that only works when you’ve had several seasons behind you to tell your story and you’re looking for just a little more time to give fans a farewell and bring closure to a fully fleshed-out and complete series. ALOTO literally just started. first seasons are always an introduction and a set-up for the greater story. i truly cannot rationalize this decision beyond a media group trying to save face. it’s a shitty way to escape the reality that you basically cancelled a successful, quality show with lgbtq and poc rep. an escape attempt, by the way, that is not lost on anyone who loved and cared about the show. if they paid any attention to viewership, they’d realise just the scope of that impact.
if the decision-makers thought that this was an easy compromise to keep their name out of articles that discuss the cancellation bias of minorities in media, they were sorely mistaken. we are tired. but we will not be quiet.
best girls <3
bonus:
Ok so, zoom on their mouths, GRETA USED TONGUE, i'm not ok and ALSO, Carson's hands on Greta's waist makes me weak
No bullshit, though. I would KILL for ALOTO bloopers. I live for that shit. I need a giggling take of Abbi and D’arcy trying to make out. I need a take of Gbemi tripping over her words and cursing with her British accent. I need a fake out kiss by Roberta and Kelly because they KNOW we need it. Amazon — if you can’t give us a season two, please for the love of lesbians, give us a blooper reel.
So between all of the Peaches (as in, we get on-screen confirmation ) Jess, Lupe, Maybelle, Joey, and Shirley all know about Greta and Carson being queer (and/or also that they’re together)…but they don’t all know *who else knows*, and just I’m just losing my mind over the absolute comedy of errors that would unfold from them all (especially between queer-straight Peaches and straight-straight Peaches) trying to cover Carson and Greta without outing either of them.
Like Shirley going all-in on a Roommate Switching Situation again, but being super, overly obvious and dramatic about it, and Carson doesn’t know whether she’s grateful or wants to tear her hair out in embarrassment

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (2022-)
I started to watch A League of Their Own and I'm only on the fourth episode but it's already the best tv show because it gave me D'Arcy Carden kissing women
