I would absolutely love to explain to you the mind of an elriel but I really do not understand them myself. the limited page time/interactions, lack of banter/chemistry, the toxicity of their relationship. it doesn’t make sense in the slightest. I genuinely cant see a reason to ship them other then for the aesthetic, and yet they have .. um what we’ll call.. a passionate fanbase who have all decided they are endgame.

you said it right there, the way azriel looks at elain sounds like lust but the way he thinks about gwyn sounds like mates.

I swear these people are blind if they seriously can’t see the appeal of gwynriel. i asked my friend who is very different from me and hates reading to read the bonus chapter and even she could see that gwynriel is inevitable.

but back to the paragraph you sent me, can we talk about how azriel had to CONSCIOUSLY ERASE her smile. in other words he had to force himself to stop thinking about her joy because otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to. the simple act of making her happy made him happy. it made stonecold unreadable azriel smile. that unselfishness is the exact opposite of what we get with elriel. where he just had to have her despite everything it might cost his court and friends. and azriel burried her smile, he didn’t immediately forget, he didn’t try to get rid of the thought, instead he held on to it.

and elriels can spew their light singer bs all they want cause nobody can convince me that that doesn’t mean something important.
